Thread: A buff addict Rifleman goes cold turkey.

About three weeks ago I came back to SWG after a 10 month break. My initial goal was to create a PvP template and get back into the fight against the Rebellion (I was an architect when I quit). Reading the boards, the same advice/strategy kept comming up: Doc Buffs/Entertainer Buffs or Brandy/High%Kin Armor/Blast your way to mastery in 48 hours wheee!

After doing this for a couple of days I had a change of heart. I switched servers and started down the path to Ranger/Rifleman. I also am having fun trying tougher and tougher mobs using no doc buffs, but relying on tactics. I'm currently midway through Rifleman and Ranger, using a T-21 with 76% Kin Ubese. With a Steady diet of Won Won, Accaragm, Canapes, and Brandy ; some Pixie Dust for emergency heals; and a trusty Harvesting Droid with 1 combat module to get aggro, I am having all kinds of fun hunting mobs in the 10k HAM range (mainly Endor).

Next I'm going to try and drop armor completely, and see if I can still hunt at the same level efficiently. I'm thinking that once I drop the armor, I can cut back on the food and drink.

Using baby steps I feel I am on the road to recovery from buff addiction, and on the path towards true Mastery of my chosen professions.

I don't mean to flame or call you a little girl. You might be having fun with those 10k HAM mobs but they are nothing but a pest to me. I like to go for those 100k-300k HAM mobs you run scared from. The kind of mobs that beat the crap out of me and nearly kill me while wearing comp armor and fully buffed. You wanna talk about fun? I think killing something with 100 times the HAM you have and almostdying is fun. Yeah I have to replace my armor once a week, so what. The loot some of those mobs drop can pay for 5 suits of armor and leave me with plenty in the bank. BTW with full buffs and good armor you can grind rifleman in 12 hours if you know what yer doing.

I'm not a little girl, im a Novice Rifleman. Thats why I'm not buffed to helltanking 100k HAM mobs with a macro spamming Headshot. If you read my post, you'll see that I'm not trying to be UBER, I'm trying to fight the toughest mobs possible with no armor and no buffs.

Grinding Rifleman in 12 hours?....wheeeeee! What fun!...Lets GRIND!

Hey man!

I agree definitely!!

I don't use armor nor buffs to go hunting. Just tactics and I can take all I want, up to bull rancors (lv 95) on dathomir.

I use my brain instead of the armor. And I can't conceal shoot with a 70/70/315 head armor, definitely!

Brandy is a friend (lol in real life I don't like it) and muon/neutron pixie for emergency recover.

Aside this I have to try the ranger line. Atm I'm tka for close and some scout/medic for obvious reasons.

It happen to me sometimes to die, that's 1-2/week doing this job but I find it is full of fun, much more then kneel and shot for 20min to an elder/darkJedi/or so! Where is fun in this?

Tactics always win!

More power to you ShenMolo!

Allthe old-timers like me will remind you that up until this year, we didnthave any doc buffs or decent food. I mastered rifle without armor, without buffs, and without food. The ONLY thing I used was Muon Gold for emergencies. And at the same time, we had the famous x2.5 Melee damage penalty and creature warping. If you don't know what those were, it meant a creature would sometimes warp to your position and kill you with one blow.

But you know what? It FORCED you to use tactics! You learned to appreciate Warning shot, Suppression fire, and Threaten shot. Let the poor grinders have their Master Rifle in 12 hours. They probably finish with their girlfiends in 20 seconds and brag about it too. I enjoyed those days and actually miss them somewhat. It took me several months to master, and I enjoyed every minute of it.

Hey man, good call on the dropping buffs thing. Makes the game much more fun and it requires you to use your surroundings and every once in a while come into some close calls. I haven't died once while leveling riflemen which I am currently doing on Dantoine without buffs and armor, only brandy for HS2. I just get a good spot 60 m out and pound quenkers. There is no reason for Riflemen to really have buffs except for soloing NS Elders which shouldn't happen in the first place. All in all this game is more fun without buffs.

I don't mean to flame you, but I'd like to see you drop all of rifleman, and then grind it out in 12 hours (without 900k rifle weapons xp or 300k combat xp)

I've been grinding out rifleman, hunting whatever I can whenever I can - and I'm still not there, almost but not quite. (Four skill boxes to go!)

Any MRM that uses HeadShot3 to solo a high level mob is a retard. StrafeShot2 has a higher damage modifier, and drops resists on the higher level mobs quicker.

Hunting without buffs is a worthy challenge, I'm amazed (well not really amazed) at the negative response of these board trolling retards.

Buffs were introduced to take some money out of the economy, but as a side effect they let the FoTMidiotsplay in god mode so they can brag about how great they are. Hopefully when buffs are nerfed they spend half their time in the cloning chamber and then go back to wherever it was they came from.

If you have HAM issues (who doesn't), ditch the Ubese and get some custom made advanced mabari, or better yet, hunt klikniks segments on Yavin and you will be amazed how lowChitin can go. I am currently wearing chitin boots with22% kinetic, 15% energy and 9-5-3 ham.
