As soon as I got my new wookiee armour suits, I headed off to Dantooine to shoot Huttons (stalkers as it turned out). I tried the hunting armour first.
My usual, un-armoured approach, is brandy and /concealshot spam. However, this time, with my new uber armour, I just used /takecover and /headshot3. Well, I didn't get incap'd, so that's the good news. However, it was close because by the time I got the aggro, shooting the rifle was killing me more than the hutton was. I was using a DXR-6B btw. I've had my suit sliced, and when I wear the full lot, I only have 6 constitution points left!
I'll be trying similar things tomorrow with my Black Mountain suit.
How have the rest of my fellow Wookiees got on?

Okay...
Well thanks for that, but that actually was nothing to do with what I was asking

I actually have not tried the armor yet, due to lack of funds at the moment, LOL. However, from what I've heard from other Wookies, the armor is great. Haven't heard about any real HAM problems, but then, all the wookies I've talked to about the new armor, so far, have had their stats migrated since they are all mostly combat professionals. I'm going to keep my ears open and continue to ask questions of my Kashyykian brethren.

Hi,
I am not a Wookie (Twi'Lek Master Rifle) but my general thoughts on armor are that it is only useful when buffed. Our specials, and the rate at which we fire them will do much more damage to us than the baddies. I leveled to master in clothing, bought armor so I could go take on bigger game like enraged rancors...and ended up taking it off because I was near death every 2 minutes from HAM costs.
By the way, I play unbuffed (except for brandy cuzI am a lush). In hindsight, I should have chosen wookie. I don't like armor, I don't play buffed and you guys get the taming bonus (I am CH also) and you also get some great BE clothes. Hoods with +25 tame and +25 wound injury....I am jealous..

I'm like you. I've hardly ever used buffs.
I've level'd up to 4333 rifleman on just brandy. However you've made me think about BE'd clothes now, I don't have any of those
I took a different approach with teh armour. I lob a Phenacine dart at a Huurton stalker then run around doing standard shots
Then when I'm not hurting myself with specials the hunting armour is pretty good at soaking up any creature damage.

Could you tell me your stats? I'm a wookie like you, I've been trying to see how I can get away with hunting without buffs while leveling through rifleman.

if you can afford it, mind buffs can make all the difference.
Human is the best race for rifleman. Hands down. They can get their focus up to 1100 through stat migration. With a music buff, that'll shoot it up to 2200. My stinking Zabrak's focus caps at 500 pre-buff.
Remember it's all about FOCUS. have to keep it high, or you'll be taken down.

i have a wookiee rifleman on Ahazi. I haven't bought a suit of the new armor, but with the older armor, i never noticed any real hinderance. if properly buffed.
mind buffs are the key. musician especially. i normally stay away from foods, because they're too expensive. ...and don't compete with muon for cost/reward. because i hate running missions. and so...any tactic that requires hours of mission moola grinding lessens my enjoyment of this game. i'm much more of a harvest a cash crop resource for a week type person... and be frugal/have fun the rest of the time.
But get buffs. you shouldn't notice. unless the new wookiee armor is substantially more encumbering than composite. there shouldn't be any real issue herre.
now, if you're wearing armor, and not using buffs, and spamming specials. AND complaining about your weapons killing you. well then you're just a moron, plain and simple.
the combinations don't go together. or they do, but you have to stipulate to the moron monicre

Well for fear of being called a moron (tisk! the cheek of it), us wookiees are new to this managing heavy armour game
I tried a few different food buffs that I'd never bothered with today. I found combinations of double-brandy with vercupti (or however it's spelt) and ahrisa.
I'm loathed to become dependant on buffs. All because of money. When I go out hunting, I'm doing an order, so 2-3 hours isn't much compared to the amount of time I'm going to have to spend hunting. Secondly when you're on places like Yavin, there's usually no one doing buffs, so you're goingto have to spend even more time and money going off world. Besides, if I was going to start depending on buffs, I'd have taken a melee profession and not rifleman.
So I'm not thinking a balance of food buffs and actually taking the armour off is the way to go.

to that i'd say welcome to the game as every other race has to play it.
again... you can't wear heavy armor. fire a heavy weapon, use specials... and be surprised when all that takes a toll.
what's the solution. get a full set of buffs.
hunt without armor... and it's subsequent benefits.
or hunt with armor, but use less specials.
...i make no claim to the addiction to buffs being good. it's annoying. but it's sort of the nature of the beast. these games are horribly designed from a penalty reward standpoint.
the natural inclination under a zero penalty system is to maximize effectiveness... in so doing, it often times necessitates playing at a much more envolved, costly, and annoyingly dependant level.
i've always thought there should be more abstract penalties towards armor. ...with the only current penalty being your sub stats decrease... this making specials less repeatable. ...it seems chilidishly predictable that the entire gaming populace would gravitate towards using buffs that negate that penalty.
i think the penalties should be less on hendrence, and more on removal of ability. IE with no armor, you can use any special you want. no effect, or overly taxing drain, wear weak armor. ... you get a bit of drain, but as you get into the more cumbersome armor... heavier. more restrictive etc. you're denied access to upper level specials. ...the drain shouldn't be much more severe. but there would always be hard penalties worked into the system.
no way to utterly counterman it. ...thus giving people real choices. ...heavy armor, vs light armor or no armor. and penalties and rewards to go along with it.
ah... but then i'm a dreamer.
good luck with your predicament. i suggest just bitting the bullet and getting on the buff bandwagon. there's no shame in it. everyone else is. and you'll be less frustrated, and able to enjoy your new armor more.

You wookies who don't hunt with buffs, have you had your stats migrated or have you kept the defaults? I would really like to know. Thanks.
