Thread: To be a real sniper
Why does concealed shotshow tracer fire to the enemy, that gives away your position after first shot. As a sniper you would not expect your position to be given away to enemy by the tracer fire. But as it does give tracer fire all the time, there is no point to being a sniper as you are discovered with the first shot even though you are still under cover. Which in turn prevents you from making any further effective shots, as your position will be given away immediately. So the concealed shot for rifleman is not really a concealed shot, if after you fire, the tracer is seen by target and he knows where you are straight away. If you were a sniper you would not use a weapon with tracer fire. The most you would have is a weapon with muzzle flash and that would only show at night. So the tracer fire should be deleted from the Concealed shot, so in daylight it would take the target to have to run about a bit to find you. He should not know where the shot came from or any subsequent shots you make. Except for night time muzzle flash. The only way he should be allowed to locate you, is if he gets to within 20m of you. After all he has the choice to run away. As if sniper follows him. The sniper will then have to break his cover and would be seen. So if he remains in cover, a sniper should not be found unless a sweep of the entire area is made, the full circle of 64m from target in a 360* radius. If the target was in a group this would not be too hard to do, but if he is on his own then the best thing for him to do would be run away. I think this would make for far more interesting game play. Think of 3 or 4 snipers being flushed from cover all running in different directions and the jedi would not find it so easy to find and kill a sniper. you would then not have this superman who can not be taken out unless there are loads of enemy. This would make for better small skirmishes of two groups of 4 or 5 in number.

Balance
You missed the major idea here... We are rifleman (A person who uses rifles) - not snipers. Sniping is justsomething we can do.

/amen to that. IMO, rifleman need to lean a lot more towards laying fast, accurate fire upon the enemy, destroying them through fire and manuver, not being "snipers"

It's still too easy to spot a rifleman undercover. I agree that no bolts fired could affect balance greatly, but at least they could've made it so a single bolt was fired (like headshot from pre-CU). It's still traceable but you still have a chance to preserve concealment.

*points at this statement* correct.
I would also point out we have a tree the is "Gunner" and "Assassin" and yet another that is titled "Soldier" (this one takes the most xp of the lot)
We have sniper like abilities. We are not Snipers.
As for the shots being Invisible. That can not happen for balance reasons. The oly counter in pvp to conceal shot and cover is the fact that someone can notice and follow back the shots to break cover. If they were invisible Rifleman would be the only class ever played as no one could counter the ability.
The hardest part of the Sniper profession isn't the firing of the weapon, it's the woodcraft skills.
If you wanted to be able to fire repeatedly without being seen, I'd say make it a Master Ranger skill, since a MRM/MR would fit the traditional Sniper role much better.
