Thread: Cover/Conceal Shot What am I doing wrong?

I'm new to Post-CU Rifleman and I'm having some problems with Cover and Conceal Shot.

I enter Cover from 60-65m, then proceed to Conceal Shot. The mob looks around for a bit, then proceeds to attack me after the third shot, regardless of what I do. Now, if that is be design, that's fine, but I can do the same thing while NOT under cover with three shots of ANY type before they agro me.

I am going translucent and getting the cover icon - what am I doing wrong??

ya, 3-4 shots under cover, then they spot u and attack. ya, u can do the same thing with any attack, EXCEPT: the other attacks take less time iirc.

Are you spamming conceal shot? Or, like me, are you waiting until the combat music stops and then firing again? I can hit several times like this, don't know how long it would last, I get impatient, stand up, KD, snare, kite til dead. But I know I've gotten off 5 conceal shots and not been discovered. It's groupmates that don't listen and wander close to me (fixed pub 20) or something spawning on top of me that blws my cover. That or my impatience.

id like to know if u can do SEVEN or more shots while under cover. otherwise, the time u spend doing the conceal warmup-execute-cooldown over time will not b anywhere as useful as using any other shot from prone then laying into the targ as usual. 7 shots from conceal will make a significant diff. 4 shots or 5 is still only a 5% diff.

I'll test it out next time I log in. Usually it's not the target that breaks my cover like I said, but even pre-CU it was hard to get more than five shots in if your target was a higher /con than you. Too many times I got raped by voritors grinding out rifleman. /shudder

kool. looking forward to finding out. i find that there seems to b no diff in how many shots i get off based on mob level. but since i was able to max CL, it has not been much a concern for me. i only use the cover/conceal for variety in my gameplay when solo.never while in a grp - dont want anyone waiting around for me to get my share in.

Yeah, I wait until their symbol/con/name isn't flashing red anymore, then fire another one. It seems to reset the 'I've been hit' flag, allowing you to hit from cover again and again without getting aggro.

Not for the impatient, however

the only time i use cover/conceal is to pull a target from a cluster of mobs, using conceal to draw the target out can help you if you don't want to agro the pack

Yeah, thats just how conceal/conceal shot works, and its exactly why I never use it, it's a pretty useless special attack

last time I tried concealed shot to pull a piket - I pulled the pack.

Would you care to test out a 400 year old sword to see if it's decayed to condition 0? All the prior testers have no comment. Perhaps a gun which was used in WW I and still fires with high accuracy upto 1km?

If that doesn't get you, then start reading current military specifications for combat equipment.

Count yourself lucky that you can get 3-4 conceal shots off before being uncovered. Lately, I have been able to get off one maybe two before the mob charges me. Conceal is on my hotbar but I use sniper shot more. Snipe, leg shot, startle shot, amied shot then head shots till dead.

What are some other ways you take a mob down?

I go prone, then use Advanced Aim, Sniper Shot, Sniper Shot, Stopping Shot, Sniper Shot and then whatever as needed because they are very low by this point if they aren't dead already. Sometimes, I'll even throw another Advanced Aim after my Stopping Shot to make the next two or three shots hit that much harder. Depends on what I"m fighting, too, because if they have a ranged attack, I'll use Startle in there to prevent them from attacking or Kneecap to prevent them from getting in range.

Ok, I tested this several times under varied circumstances.

1. Master rifles/carbines with an unsliced T21, Exploration 4 (Mask Scent). Single of conceal shot, wait for combat music to die, creature roams around for about 20 seconds, and charges me. Second attempt was same conditions, consecutive conceal shots, discovered from 65m after second shot. Third attempt, same conditions, single conceal chot, ESC to clear target, target roams for 20 secs and charges me.

2. Rifleman/Ranger - 3423 rifleman/4133 ranger on Tatooine using Mask Scent, Assault Bowcaster, CL53 dewback. Tried same combinations as with rifleman/carbineer, same results.

3. Same rifleman/ranger, weapon, creature. Used a tatooine camo kit instead of mask scent. Tried same combinations as previous, same results.

My only theory at this point is that when I initially replied to this thread, I was using dial-up with a bad ping time, and with the rifle/ranger, 5-10% packet loss at all times. I tried these combos after I got my cable internet hooked up, and have no packet loss and max ping has been 112. Now, conceal shot doesn't seem to work for me other than to single pull, and I can do that with a trap on my ranger.
