I've started using startle shot in PvP, and was just wondering if we get any notification if we delay our target. I've yet to see a message, but it could just be the delay not sticking.
Anyone know?? Thanks!

you see the startle icon on your target once it sticks.

Yeah you see the Startle icon right below the targets name but you'd better look fast because it won't last long. I have yet to see any real usefullness for this shot.

startle shots delay is removed on damage - so it will go away quick if you use the shot and then immediately after shoot the person again.

Ahhhh, that's good to know. Any idea on how long the delay lasts? Without me following up with an attack that is.

Yes, the delay is removed on damage......UNLESS you are following it up with Disarming Shot (from pistoleer) which is also a delay

Well panic shot is also ment to be a delay, but it seems broken(In Smuggler)

Even though it has been stated that you'll lose Startle Shot after following up with an attack it STILL seems to not last long enough to be effective. I shot an NPC with it yesterday and did not followup, yet the icon disappeared almost as soon as I could target it beneath his name. Only seems to last for a max of 5 seconds.

that sounds about right... but consider this in 5 secs of combat I can shoot 3 times. If the target could as well it could be three shots that you stopped them from firing at your party while you finish off another target

The delay was/is only around 5 seconds, yes. Before they crippled it so it breaks on damage, it was actually a useful skill. Now it is almost entirely useless. Your opponent is not going to get many hits in in that period of time anyway, if you're going solo, so unless you're really pushing the limits of your health you're probably better off just auto-attacking afterwards or using a different special.
In group play, it is somewhat useful to drop startle shots on any "friends" that try and help something your group is attacking... But you run the chance of drawing aggro with it, which means you're probably drawing it off your designated tanks.
It's probably a little more useful in PvP, where one rifleman could keep cycling targets and delaying different people, or delaying medics, etc. Players are more likely to be using nasty specials like their knockdowns/snares/roots etc, so interrupting them can be valuable.
But 5 seconds is not a very long time if you're not being otherwise attacked. And if you're already under attack, the startle will break anyway.
The PvP crowd have a lot to answer for.

I have not really used startle shot too much but I have used disarming a lot in PvP. I find the really nice benifit of disarming is that dumps what they have queued and also breaks their auto attack. So if you have them on the run good chances is that they are relying on auto-attack and not really paying attention to it as they are watching there health and where they are going. So even after the you shoot them again they can not attack unless they hit a special on the toolbar.
