Thread: A valid reason why rifles should hit at 80m not 64m

First of all let me say that the fact the pistols can hit for their maximum damage at around 50m is kinda dumb since their effective range is supposed to be 15m, so for starters that needs sorting out. But that is not why i post this. I for one only recently started using rifles and i have to say there's something very wrong with them only working at the same range as pistols and carbines. Let me elaborate with some solid facts.

Pistols work best at 15m ( i think it refers to accuracy i dunno cause the pistols are generally accurate anyway at any range) and that optimum seems to also extend to 20m and 10m as well before you start seeing a signifcant drop in damage and accuracy. Carbines are 30m but also have a range of 40m and 20m before the effect becomes noticable. You see the pattern here? You take the 1/3 of the optimum range and it gives you the general area where the blaster works best. But apply this to rifles....

Optimum is 60m and the cap appears to hit around 40m. Yet... there is no upper limit like with other guns. So in effect it's no wonder we struggle to fight as well as other blaster professions due to the fact our targets can very quickly get outside our optimum range. I say we need to be extended to 80m, this has several benefits:

  1. We get to actually be of some use on the battlefield, if we're able to hit from outside the maximum range of other blasters then it doesn't matter that pistoleers might be more powerful. The whole point of the rifles are to provide covering fire and support plus pick of induvidual targets.

  2. If they decide to nerf the master riflemen (and probably will) then even if they drop down to +10 for speed then the increased range will stil allow them to operate effectively without an imbalance as the extra 20m means we can get an extra shot in even if the target is running right for us.

  3. 'Sniper' and 'sharpshooter' titles are meaningless when someone with a pistol can attack you from the same range as you can attack them.

I agree completely. But you're preaching to the choir. The people that can do something about this are not listening and they dont care.

imho it should be 32,64,128 (Pistol,Carbine,Rifle). Other stuff is programmed that way, kind of makes sense.

in army basic training, we practiced shooting at 300 meters until perfection.

it is kinda sad that thousands of years into the future we lose over three times that distance...

oh technology woes...
