Thread: 1st In a series of potential CU rifleman problems
Ranged Deathblow:
- Ranged death blow no longer exists
- has a setup/windup timer on it so it is no longer instant
- Incap times are already to short according to most pvp'rs
So rifleman who have to fight at range will both have to cross the distance to the target to db them and then also wait out a timer while the shortened incap timer ticks down.
Specials with long windups:
- specials with windups cancel if you move
- therefore to use most rifleman specials (as they suggest slow weapons will always be slow) you will have to not move
- - info on one side of this is still CU but partially addresses the problem but creates another
- even still - rifleman will be forced to stand and take it to use specials now.
Slower Relative Speed:
- Even if DPS is the same with rifleman doing more damage per shot but less shots
- what happens when some one can lay 2-3 states on you in the time you can do one action?
- Defences vs states must be much greater for rifleman (so that 1 in 3 states land) or the balance will be lost
- 1 shot 600 damage vs 3 shots at 200 damage each + stun +blind +intimidate (special states are changing... this is just eg)
As for the whole snipershot thing... Never used, never will use it as long as Jedi are roving in bands of 5 or more

Hmm well the recent revealed info about the CU defines riflemen as "nukers" whatever they mean by that - hopefully we'll still be the best DPS profession around despite our specials being on timers

The prophecy seems to become true...

heres the problem i have. in a PvP battle, Post CU, the Rifleman would be at the rear as the meleers run in, and throw some Carbineers/Pistolwhippers in between.
Now, i'm in the prone, or kneeling, shooting away, and i incap someone......who do you think is going to get credit for the kill???
NOT ME! it would be suicide to leave my position and go into the trenches and stand there liketree while waiting for the DB to followthrough. So i'll have to just let some TKM or whatever get the DB. so basically, we'll be incapping people for the meleers to 'kill', don't like that a whole lot....
just wait.... you ain't seen nothing yet but yeah your basic assesment is correct.
In pvp you will want the pistoleers and smugglers tobeon the front lines as they are puppeteers (mezzers and staters now). Carbineers to protect you. Melee specialists will be dukeing it out in the middle. And rifleman will be moveing along the edge of battle seeking position and targets of opportunity.
as for how PvP kill credits are counted. This is still up in the air and it is possible that anyone who damaged a target gets part of the reward (kinda like JTL)

Eh.. it's been that way for some time as many melee stackers run DB macros to which they get the kill almost instantly. It even happens for BH's as you'll find the opportunist BHs (those who stand around next to the Jedi until they're dead just to /deathblow for the reward without the work) and the melee stacking BH's who basically get too worried about the payout and PvP rating so they feel it's their right to perform a DB macro. With Snipershot we at least had some chance of gaining kills and faction points from players in PvPthough it only takes 21 points invested into Rifleman to obtain that special which became a bit of a problem months ago (players picking up snipershot for range DB).
As far as potential problems with the CU the only thing I can readily see as a possible problem will be offensive stacking. Only two professions (as they stand now) will effectively stack to build an effective and possible overpowering build and that will be Bounty Hunter with Pistoleer or Carbineer. This will give the player who takes BH with Pistol/Carbines the ability to have a Strong rating across the board to which they can effectively act as a one person range tank. Having access to strong attacks with strong defenses coupled with strong crowd control basically leave all other professions in the dust according to the statement and rough paper guessing. However, without actually testing it we can only assume it will be a powerful build to which many will migrate to once again causing cookie cutter templates of the range blend and leaving those professions which will not stack well for offenses an inherent disadvantage on the field.
Personally the CU sounds like it's going to shape up to be an overall good thing though with minor discrepancies. As long as Rifleman gain some sort of bonuses for positioning and attacking then the glass jaw part of defense is fine; however, I fear that without a range past 64m we'll still take it up the ass as combat will still gravitate to run and gun.

But would we still have decent ranged defense? I mean, it's pretty easy to escape a melee'r coming at you, but ranged.. it's a different story.

Well, I think it's good, I mean, it's really what a rifleman is supposed to be.

Yes and no. We will are moderate in crowd control skills which should give us some ability to stop others from attacking us and we have another skill not yet revealed that will help as well .We will not be better defended then other ranged attackers vs ranged.
and if you arent good at pvp or pve thats your fault
