I am a novice riffleman. I do not really enguage in PVP, but am usually overt to use fact pets for missions. I am always getting attacked PVP outside AH on Tat. After getting killed today, I decided to see what in the world this nice T-21 could do for me to provide some self defense. I found the guy, ranged him out at 64m with my T-21, went prone and used HS2 and... hit him for 49???? pts of dmg. This guy used a scatter pistol (I think) at the same range and immediatly hit me for 240, 172, 273, 218 and 256. **edit**!!

My ignorant questions is this... does a riffleman have any means what so ever to fight PVP, even enough to defend himself, or are we automatically at the mercy of any PVP **edit** that comes along? I've heard about the nerfing, but there has got to be something in favor of a riffleman, or have the dev's just totally screwed riffleman to the point where the game is totally unplayable for us.

Sounds weird. Maybe if he was wearing a really high resist composite helmet then those numbers would be somewhat explainable.

If someone is wearing a composite helmet pull out your Jawa Ion Rifle and try a HS2 with that. You'll see some other numbers.

For you T21 you should be able to hit with I'd say 150-200 dmg per shot. Depending how high your rifle's damage is.

I do not PvP much either, but I understand that one strategy is to fire flurry shot until he is dizzy, then run out of range. Hopefully when he stands up to chase you he will fall over. I also seem to have read that just because he is dizzy (Look for the dizzy icon by his HAM bar) doesnt guarantee he will fall over. Use your fastest rifle to fire the dizzy as you may not get a lot of chances.

I re-checked my dmg, it was 56, not 49. As far as I can tell he wasn't wearing any amor, certinally not a helm. Is there something wacked with my charachter? I have master marksmak, and novice riffleman (0,0,1,0,), When I go to the mission terms alone, I get offered level 11-13 missions (holding the riffle)? That never sounded right, I have friends that started their elite professions (different then riffleman), and they get offered 25's. My T-21 does max 328 dmg (don't remember the min).

I get attacked by these same scrubs all the time, over and over and over and over again. Every time I die from TS and come back to AH, these idiots nail me trying to get back to TS. The numbers I showed on the first tell are average of what happens. I thought maybe it was becuase I hadn't completed master marksman, but now I have that and the numbers are sick. I have a Jawa, but that thing only does low 100's for dmg, I have a hard time killing womp rats with it. I have also tried my laser riffle, which does a max of 580 with power up. Nothingseems to level the playing field at all. I will try the Jawa next time, and I know it stuns, but the thing is my weakest weapon in my inventory, short of CDEF riffles I pick up looting once in a while.

The minimum damage for most T21s is around 120 if I remember correctly.
Lets say your shot went out for the MINIMUM damage (120).
Your damage would start with the following value:

120 * 1.5 (base atttack modifier) * 2.5 (headshot2 damage) = 450

PvP reduction is 75%, so the LEAST DAMAGE you should do so far is approx 112.

Now that doesnt count the AR3 bonuses you get.
Nor does it count the ARMOR RESIST bonuses the enemy may or may not get.

Bottom line is I do NOT know how you only got 56 damage!!
Have I forgotten anything here?

If the guy had a personal shield generator, that may account for it. A good one can cut energy attacks by 50%.

I migrated my stats earlier today (still waiting on them to level). I left my health at 1000 though, and turned the subs to health and action to 400 (action is at 700). I put my mind at 1000, and placed 600 into the fist sub, and the rest into the second (dont remember which ones which, lol). I could bring down my health to 700, lol. This is what I migrated from when I moved from artisian, but I get a lot of mind deaths so I probably should do it. I live on HS2, I have to try using strafe more.

I think you have just found out why so many people give up on rifleman in the early stages. Novice Rifleman was horrible, I never won a PVP battle untill I got halfway to master. I don't know why your t21 didn't do much dmg, but I know you should stay away from pvp and going overt till you are Master. I'm a 4,2,4,3 Rifleman and I try to avoid 1v1 battles as much as possible. Even with a huge mind pool and master head shot you will still lose to a BH spamming eyeshot and running right at you most of the time. From your first post it looks like you got taken down by a BH spamming eyeshot, I don't think its possible for a novice rifleman to even dent a level3 pistol bh before you are dead. As for your stats, I'm Human and just migrated mine down to Health 700, 400, 400 Action 700, 400, 400 Mind 1100, 650, 650. So far I like this combination, I still can't spam specials for very long, but it does allow me to get off 11 flushing shot2's when our group is in a bind. Having a Master Doctor as a roomate giving me free 1500 and up buffs is a nice bonus though and I don't think I would drop HA stats that low if I wasn't buffed most of the time.

Your right, it was eyeshot, each time apparently. I don't kow what to do about the overt thing, I need pets in order to get reasonable missions, in order to get reasonable xp. I take 2 lv 16's and get about 8k riffle xp per set. I have even soloed 22's, but it's a nightmare. Level 16's are the key for me. I can't get level 16's unless I have a fact pet (lv 20) grouped with me. I bought a pet once from a vendor. What a waste, I couldn't tame it, ended up giving it to someone else. I have a friend who is CH, but he is sending me warnings about pets because apparently (don't know his source) there is a nerf on the test center making level 10 pets the highest a non CH can have, and we will only be able to use one pet (currenlty I can pull 3 if need be). So I'm a little skittish about the CH pet thing. I will deal with that a different way, I need overt to use pets, I need pets to get good missions, that gives me a 100k of xp pretty fast and dependable.

I was just po'd that I was so unbalanced with other pvp'ers. I guess if your not a master riffleman, your doomed to the mercy of the stupid, worthless, good for nothing, pice of cra..... Err, I mean, Imps. I can work the overt thing, just can't stand the reality that there is no even ground for me to defend my self in even the least until I get billions of points of riffle xp. My complaint was that I couldn't do any damage to the Imp (puke) when he could wail on me severally, not that I got attacked because I was overt. You would think that when someone gets that high they would want to use there skills against some sort of competetion, not novices. After all, I quite hunting newbie creatures a long time ago, just no sport or benifit in it. ...err, oh well. Thanks for the help.

It's (supposedly) a war. I don't expect opposing faction members to tolerate me if we're both overt, especially if he has a fair chance of winning - Discretion is the better part of valor, after all.

I belive that it is common knowledge that Master Riflemen are very good in PvP. At least in big battles where our AOE attacks own.

i think the best advice anyone can give you is don't go overt if you don't want to PvP. this much is obvious. aside from that, ESPECIALLY don't overt running faction missions outside of AH ... often there will be raiders from Bestine just waiting to pick you off.

get a creature pet if you need a tank. it will work better for you anyways (prevents warping pretty well)

at master rifle, its a whole new ball game. read some other posts about PVP on here and you will get a better sense of our capabilities.

get a better Jawa rifle, if you can. mine, stock, does something like 110-220 dmg, 5.x speed, around 40 ham. with a average dmg slice, and a 33%power up, it does 350+ dmg. it goes right through most composite and i regularily hit for 200-700 dmg with Strafeshot2 (master rifle shot).

head shot isn't the best rifleshot, in my mind, Strafeshot2 is. it's 5x your weapons dmg roll - that's a lot of dmg. and at novice rifle - you shoot really frickin slow, have no defenses, have terrible aim, and are cannon fodder for PvP pistols/BH - everything. it all turns around at master - combine master marksman with master rifle and you'll love it.

i usually three/four-shot guys wearing composite armor with my jawa, PvP - at master marksman/master rifle - that equates to about7 seconds of combat resulting in me gaining a few more faction points

that's what you can look forward to ~
