Thread: Pist off Master Rifleman
believe it or not, a few of us actually do agree with you.
i've been master rifle and master marksman for ..hmm.. 2 weeks now? (seems longer). i recently dropped master marksman but i'm gonna train up for it again, it was the icing on the cake and makes specials fire at or near the speedcap (i was spoiled, i mastered marksman at the same time as rifle, i can't live with out it now, lol
i wouldn't trade Master Sharpshooter for anything. hell, if they unlocked my forceslot i would be extremely hesitant to drop rifle..(call me crazy, yeah.)
anyways, our class rocks and we totally deserve the 2.5x melee dmg. i wish the Flurry/supression KD actually worked, but other than that.. no real complaints. i've mentioned it in other places, but i'm super excited about getting doctor and buffs (half way there now), so i can migrate all my stats to mind and wear armor PVP without being on perma-gold. i won't have any scout skills, but i should have a lot of fun pvp and in group pve
nice post
Well i thing its not a smart move to 'spend' our opportunities on somthing that affects all classes, when other correspondents work to improve their professions.
For example,The combat classes designer stated thatthere is HAM cost balance pass atm. If we don't get our HAM costs fixed NOW we are gonna wait for a long time. When your mind is empty after 6 shots only (!!) it doesn't matter if the mob warps to you or there is a 2.5x melee penalty or not. You are going to die this way.
Well just my .02 ![]()
ROFL, this forum suck! ![]()
This was supposed to get posted in another thread. Sorry just ignore it. grrrr
I'm a novice Rifleman. It's great to hear that Master is great. Can't wait to get there. But don't paint with such a broad brush. If you look at the complaints that you mentioned you will see that it's comparing novice to novice. The problem seems to be that the Rifleman bonuses are more back loaded than the other classes.
Commandos - Yes they can do insane amounts of damage. But have short special ranges and suffer the same melee mod as we do. The main Rifleman complaint against them was that their weapons were counting as melee and we were taking 2.5X damage from them. This has since been corrected.
Bounty Hunters - The main complaint about them isabout eyeshot. Mostly because it has low HAM costs mainly using Action which is healable but hitting the Mind pool. Add in the speed factor of pistols and it's easy to get spammed with this. RIflemen generally saw this as unfair since Mind is also our target pool but we also use that same pool to use our special. As for your idea of using a helm, yep a great idea. Unfortanately not everyone can use a helm (ie Wookies). The main problem really isn't even BH. It's the BH/Pistoleer combo that loads up on Pistol speed/accuracy bonuses without obtaining Master of either.
Pistoleers - The main complaint is the accuracy thing. Pistols are fairly accurate at long range when using specials (see Nooles comparison which shows this, excellent work btw). Pistols have a nice curve in accuracy for their weapons. Dropping a fairly constant rate from ideal. Rifles don't. They have a severe drop from ideal to max. For example Laser rifle being +21 @ 60m and -50 @64m. That is a drop of 71 points for 4m (12ft). While pistols drop at a nice rate of a little over 1 per m. The other main complaint about Pistoleers isn't really about them. It's about the BH/Pistoleer template that is so common and mentioned above.
Riflemen - Most of use aren't Masters yet. Reaching there especially for those of us that solo and don't use pets can be long and arduous. I personally don't have much a problem with the 2.5X melee mod IF they fixed creature warping. I personally thing this is the main complaint against the 2.5X mod. Why should we be punished with this MOB penalty when creatures can warp do to bad pathing AI? I would like to see the melee mod penalty reduced for all classes until this bug is fixed. I have no problem being incapped or DB'd from doing something stupid or taking on much more than I should. I do have a major problem with it when it's a result of not anything I've done, but because of this bug.
Most Riflemen I know aren't calling to nerf anything. Except creature warping and the increase in social MOBs. Sure there are some that do. But I can find some in all classes doing the same thing. So now that you've made Master don't forget your trek to get there and dismiss the large amount of us that are working our way to that goal. Some of our complaints are valid. But don't compare only Master levels. Most people aren't there. You also have to compare the classes at Novice level.
i know some of you guys are against using pets as a tank to level... i really suggest you give it a chance for a couple reasons:
A) you've already put in your time if you've even made it to 1 box in any rifleman tree without a pet ( i did 1-0-3-1 without a pet... pain in the ass. i had nightmares of leviasqualls every night
that's just my opinion by the way.
B) i do agree with you on the Warp/2.5x dmg issue. I should have mentioned it, but i was speaking in a PvP sense more than a PvE. PvE i think it should be abolished until they fix warping (and even then it's questionable..) and this is the other, more important reason for having a pet to tank. you don't get warped onto if you send in your pet first.a fix that i would agree with is to remove PvE 2.5x dmg, and leave it in PvP. i dunno, seems fair to me, until they fix warping.
that alone is a good enough reason to use one while you level. (IMO). and certainly that was the case with me. also, it was a means to an end because i really dislike feeling obligated to grind each night i log in (that's just the way i am). i love being master and being able to go do whatever i want without thinking "**edit**, i need my next skill box". anyways, a pet will certainly help with that as well.

No flames from me. The only thing about being a novice rifleman that bothers me are the warping creatures that capitalize on the 2.5x penalty. It is humiliating to be incapped by a pack of low level creatures because they warp on you before you can fire a shot, and irritating that I have to carryequip apistol instead of a rifle while traveling to avoid a warpdeath. The melee damage penalty doesn't really bother me...I feel that I have the ability to keep my distance in PVE. I don't PVP so I don't really have an opinion there.
I do look forward to the accuracy bonuses from the next patch...I feel that sharpshooters should be more accurate than they currently are.
Jamga
However, I would like to see some things done to ease the struggle for novice riflemen. If conceal/cover ever provide a way to avoid social aggro (from what I see in other threads today, this may be happening soon), it will be a big step in the right direction. I'd also like to see some of our speed bonuses shifted lower in the trees, possibly even into the marksman rifle tree... There is such a huge difference between 4 4 4 3 and master, I think it would make more sense to give us a steady speed increase throughout than such a dramatic jump. Might allow novice riflemen to be a bit more competitive versus other novice combat professions, in PvE or PvP.
I've been saying thesame sort of thing about speed for a while now Leche. ![]()
I think novicescould do withsome of the speed from the combat XP tree / master box, although I'm not sure I'd like to see it moved down outside the rifleman profession.
As for the x2.5 dmg, to me, it is the creature warping that cause most rifleman to whine about removing it. Once the creature warping bug is fixed, the x2.5 dmg whine will be greatly reduced.
Rifleman really shine after they reach Master title. Strafe2 is really a great PvP and PvP combat move. Ever since I got it, I rarely use Flushing2 or Flurry2. - LiZhiYong
Same here. StrafeShot2 is my bread and butter. I use Flushing2 / Flurry2 only if I have the time to slap the enemy group with a stun or dizzy at the beginning of a battle when they're at full strength. ( If the battle is crowded and chaotic, less of a chance of someone picking me out ofmy squad to focus fire on )
It's actually pretty funny; since the damage is to a random pool, they usually don't realize it's coming from me, and hence focus on higher "priority" targets, such as BH and Commando.
Most people see us as ->rifleman = mind damage, exclusively. Surprise. ![]()
Happy to know everyone agrees, we are not merely snipers we are gunners. In episode 4, the stormtroopers that blew up Luke's house were all gunners carrying T21 rifles... makes me wonder why we ever got the sniper title but oh well. Aside from the speed being move down, I agree, when I was going up rifleman instead of using my damage slice T21's i was using the speed slice ones, to offset our slowness. I figured I killed about a quarter billion baz nitches.
But anyway speed at a shot per second is incredible, what they could do is give more speed on the first SOLDIER box than the last, makes me wonder sometimes if the DEV's thought it was a good idea to have such a large jump on speed on the last box. Funny also how our speed capabilities are tied to combat experience, so you have to actually be a master be a fast shooter or spend massive time grenading everything around you..
