Thread: Combat Exp (grenades?)
I've read a few posts that refer to getting great combat exp from grenades. Could someone go a little further indepth on this? The posts I read only refered to this. I had thought that grenades were a Commando thing...
Thanks in advance!
First off you need C-12 gernades since anyone can use em, now there are two methods I know of.
Way of the power gamer:
1) Group with a pet or anybody so you can to get the XP bonus
2) Solo newb MOB's: use aim, toss the gernade, the MOB is dead, repeat
- get 10 K an hour if all by yourself in a Newbie area
Way of the Mind Bleed:
1) Bleed a target with Mindshots
2) When they are about to die kill them with gernades
-Never tried this approach so I don't know how effective it is
yeah, here's the brief...
grenades give combat xp instead of weaps xp. therefore, if you kill a gnort with a rifle, you'll get something like 80 rifle xp and 8 combat xp. kill it with a grenade, and you get 80 combat xp plus 8 combat xp, for a grand total of 88 combat xp. This would be the same as killing an 880xp (much tougher) creature.
however, there are several downsides to this.
1. only commando's get certs for good grenades. without a cert, the grenades miss alot and deal much less damage, so you won't kill something with them often.
2. to get the full award, the only damage dealt to the creature has to be grenade or bleed. otherwise, it scales like regular weaponry.
3. grenades are expensive, and limited in charges. i was paying 100cr per grenade use for C22's (as a commando).
the only success i had with this was as a novice commando. i'd send in my cowardly gurreck to attack a lair of crazed durni. all the durni would attack the CG, then i slapped healthshots on them, and started lobbing grenades. after 8-10 grenades, all durni were down, and i'd netted around 440 combat xp for each. my cg was incapped though, so i'd recommend a better pet to try this with.
eventually, i decided i'd get me combat xp the old fashioned way, since i was constantly running out of grenades.
good tip about prone and aim.. hadn't considered that
and the groups thing was why i put my CG on a lair.. it draws all the surrounding mobs plus new spawns to one 10m area.
most grenades only have a 5-7m blast radius though ![]()
I use Scout traps, but grenades would work as well (justmore expensive). Last night, I got 14K COMBAT XP in 2.5 hours. Bleed, throw trap. The bleed doesn't count towards rifle xp. The trap (grenade) draws all the XP as Combat XP.In all that time, only had to heal 3 times. I was killing Chuba/Diseased Nuna/Capper Spineflaps right outside of Theed. Grinding bites, but I am going to qualify for Novice Bounty Hunter tonight

or you could do it the old fashion way, take your Jawa rifle, laser, or T21 to dathomir with your GSP and tank Kamurith Defilers or Baz Nitches... 100k xp an hour /10k combat xp an hour. worked for me
saves you some money on grenades- makes you some money on missions. (Kamurith Defiler missions are worth 20k each, they spawn in pairs, just don't agro the lair with AE shots - pull them away from the lair with the GSP then take'em out one pair at a time. it's safer - )
hope that helps!

do they always spawn only in pairs?
You don't have to hit the critter with a grenade just when it's going to die. You can hit the critter with the grenade at any time.
As long as the only damage it's taken is from grenades and bleeds, you get 11x the combat XP you'd get from a normal kill.
I just bought 4 full crates of C12 grenades last night, for this very purpose.
yep -
there will be two initially. i attack one with the gsp, then attack the other (if it doesn't agro automatically), then when they're both engaged, i tell BattleCat to follow so he pulls them away from the lair. When they're a safe distance away (i won't hit lair with AE) i tell GSP to attack again, then go to town with Flushing2. they dont' have resist against energy, if i remember right, so you can use the dlt20a/laser/E11/T21, whatever. they do have 10k ham and can poison, so bring stims for your pet! The GSP will last quite a while with it's 60% kinetic resist.
once you kill the first two, tell the GSP to attack the lair, 2 more will pop out very quickly and agro the gsp - do the same thing again. then tell the gsp to attack the lair one more time ( you will want to shoot the lair to help out as well, just be ready with /peace as soon as you see a red dot).
all lairs are like this. there are the initial creatures already spawned when you approach, then there is another spawn when you hit the lair even one time. then there is one more spawn at about 55% lair health, then it's dead.
i never did kamurith's as novice rifleman (back then, baz nitches were all the rage!). if you can, get regular, mutant, or Giant Baz Nitch missions. they may be easier as novice rifleman. they changed them a bit though, and the baz nitch avenger has a ranged attack (it spits). also, creatures don't hold agro on pets indefinitely anymore..it's a realy pain in the ass when it breaks off your pet and runs at you.
another little tip about creatures, instead of just saying or shouting a. (attack, follow whatever), try using /tellpet a. or /tellpet f. (follow). it goes over much greater distances than saying/shouting. the only thing, it doesn't show up in spatial. (which is nice for people in your group). make a macro that reads like
/tellpet f.; /echo f. (you will see it in your chat box, no one else will see it). for attack, i like to use
/tellpet a.; /say a. (this way you get the benefits of /tellpet, and your buddies know that your pet is attacking and can join in).
hope some of that helps!
yes. GSP is lvl 24. 1/1/x/x CH can call up to level 25 currently.
kiss it goodbye with the proposed ch changes though.
also, if you can't get a GSP, Grand Wrixes (GW) are 6500 Ham, Light armor, 100% heat resist. not as good as a GSP for tanking other creatures, even with the armor, 'cause kinetic resist and hams are lower. but, all around, a good pet for pvp.
