Seriously, that's a bummer man. I didn't think anyone was that low. If I was on Corbantis I'd kick the sheeyit outta him.

You can do something about it, you do a /report from ingame, and also post an ingame complaint against the player. The CSR's have access to look back of the chat logs of chars to and it also records the events that take place, including items that had been traded from one person to another.
There are actions that can be done to handle these type problems. I have seen this done before.
Check it out anyway, worst thing that can happen is that you will not get it back, so you have nothing to lose in trying it.
Opt
If you report it as "Trade Fraud" you will almost definitley get it back. I had the misfortune of going link dead the moment I hit "Accept" during a slice trade. As soon as I went link dead the *ahem* gentleman in question reported me for trade fraud and then set up a macro to spam the unHoly Hell outta me (which actually had the effect of me going bugsh !t for half an hour trying to log in and give him his stuff while being unable to cuz ofgoonish actions!). Anyway, I got a pretty straightforward letter from a CSR which basically said. We looked. You traded for a slice. Give it back or we'll take it and you will be...pyoonished.
And on a side note - If you trade and it looks like something shady is going on, give it a minute or two before you crack-out like Captain Idiot (see above). If it hadn't been for his retarded spamming knocking me off every time I tried to log back on, he woulda gotten his stuff in 5 mins. =)
