Hey guys.

I'm still a marksman but I'm planning on going all the way to rifleman.

Anyway, I was thinking about how I'm kinda stumped, offesively, when enemies get up close. I've been using a pistol to finish them off, but since pistols do health damage and rifles do mind, I'm doing more work than I have to.

My question is, do you think the spraystick would make for a decent closerange weapon from when the enemy starts to melee? I'm reading that the zero range mod is -20, which isn't nearly as bad as my Tuskan rifle. Perhaps a properly modded one would work ok? What do you guys think?

I had a similar idea. The spraystick seems like the ideal close range weapon for a rifleman - low point blank penalty and insane firing speed.

*buzzer noise* wrong answer to the melee question. You cannot do anything as a rifleman up close due to the 2x damage boost. I have a good sliced spraystick and that doesn't solve anything. It still has an ideal range of 30. Most pistols have below 20. While the accuracy helps, a spraystick is not a solution to this problem. It simply allows us to use a fast, albeit slower than some pistols, weapon with rediculous HAM costs (mine is 11, 44, 44, don't even bother trying to use specials, your mind goes FAST). It's an alternative to a souped up DLT20a (and cheaper too). This is your fate as a rifleman. Keep the enemy as far away as possible. If you can, I suggest getting CH due to the tanking abilities of Gurrecks etc.

I also use a 2H cleaver to bust the heads of anything that gets too close.

I think a spraystick would be good in my case. 44 mind cost is nothing. My Dlt20 costs 26 mind and I can spam headshots ALL day long without running out of mind. So a spraystick that costs twice as much wouldnt be that bad for using in those emergencies when you need to get somehting up close.

But remember your spraystick will shoot twice as fast as your DLT...with twice as much mind cost. So it will add up a lot faster than you think.

Yes - I realize that. taht's why I suggest using a spraystick during those RARE occurances when something gets too close. I dont rccomend using it as your primary weapon.

Yeah, I definitely wasn't planning on using the Spray as my primary (until I get the T21, my Tuskan serves me well).

I hear the comment about the CH, and I was thinking about going that route, as I could send in a pet to melee as I sat back and sniped. I was wondering, though, whether all pets do health damage, or whether some damage mind. Any ideas?

On the same level, I'm pretty pleased with the Scout Blaster pistol for up close shots. It actually has an increase to accuracy when at point blank, which is quite a sight for a harried rifleman. The obvious problem, though is that it does health damage, so I've taken to trying overcharge shots with my rifle to work health down so that the pistol can do the rest. Obviously this will have to change once I get more in rifle and I'm forced to stick to Mind Shots.

The cleaver idea is a good one. Anyone have good suggestions for a starting brawler weapon that does mind damage?

You can also use the old CDEF rifle up close. The one with the +20 PB bonus.

There's a 20+ at point blank CDEF rifle? The most I've ever seen is 0 at point blank.

Pets do normal hits. They'll generally hit health/action and occasionally hit mind.

People, you're killing yourself if you use a rifle at melee range. Someone already stated this, but apparently it didn't sink in. The answer is not a Spraystick. A Spraystick is a rifle and thus you suffer 2x damage. The answer is Two-Handed Swordsmanship.

The answer.. is Two-Handed Swordsmanship.
