Thread: Spraystick up close
So what if you take 2x damage? You're not going to be at melee range for very long. I'm thinking of using spraystick at melee just to finish off a mob that i already hit with my main rifle.
I'm still wrestling with this melee problem... I've got ZERO skill points left, and I'm going to have to sell off stuff to buy new skills I want, as it is. I got a spraystick (fun but impractical) and I thought I could use it to spam-fire /warningshots to get the creature out of melee range. But of course they almost always come RIGHT back.
Maybe I just haven't gotten good at the tactic yet. In theory, I mindshot, headshot with my DLT20a and then when the monster charges, swap to Spraystick, /warningshot until it flees, swap back to DLT20a and continue headshots, swapping to warning shots just about after every headshot. I dunno if that would work or not.
For now, I use a 4,000hp Humbaba to sit on my targets at range and ping them.
I thought about getting some two-hand-sword skills but:
(a) I'd have to get Brawler (15pts), then the Two-Hand Sword line (14pts to get it all)... not sure at what skill the 2hs folk get their first mind-specific attack. Even if it's at Teir-1 that's still 17 skill pts gone. JUST for the rare case that I get into melee.
(b) From what I've seen most two-hand swords are actually AXES. Giant honking axes. Blech.
Another tactic I've considered but not yet practiced... is to use a Pistol to fire warning shots. Warning Shot is a Ranged Support skill, so should work with pistols just fine. I only have Novice Marksman as far as pistols go, but at least I don't have to sink any more skill points into it. I just won't have very high skill rating in pistols (not even Pistol-1). Since the pistol doesn't affect Mind, there's little point in building up skill with it --- I just need it to:
(a) Successfully /warningshot foes away from me, and
(b) Reduce the damage I take in melee, while I wait for /warning shot to work.
well, if you plan to PVP at all you might want a melee skill... players don't act like mobs, they will sweep you and you can't just run away..... i'd either choose 2h sword (what i trying now) or h2h.. you would have to invest alot in h2h to get the mind attack but you will gain ALOT of defenses and some nice little perks along the way..... For now i'm thinking rifle, CH for pet, and 2hsword... should cover all the angles
You guys are using junky weapons? Why are you using a DLT20 and then switching to a Spraystick? DLT20 has an ideal range of 45 meters. The correct thing to use is a Laser Rifle from 60 meters. Secondly, whoever said "my tusken serves me well", please get a clue and go check out some other weapons. Tusken rifles have to be the lowest DPS rifles in the game, next to CDEFs. It's got nice range, but doesn't do near the damage of a DLT20, let alone a laser rifle that has the exact same range but can get stats of up to 15-477 or better with a good base, slice and a 30% weapon mod.
The stuff you guys are using for weapons for me would go straight up on the bazaar, or be given toa n00b. Why would you buy a Spraystick and then be too cheap to buy a Laser Rifle? Why would you buy the second rifle in the game (a Tusken) and then refuse to buy anything better till you get the best? That's just ridiculous and doesn't make any sense. Yeah, I'm sure you can get novice marksman with a Tusken, but it will take you 10 times as long, and 20 times the deaths of a Laser Rifle.
Greetings...
Laser rifles are hard to come by. Furthermore, good laser rifles are nigh impossible to find right now. We riflemen applaud you, Nagorak, for getting one. I secretly hate you ![]()
As far as I know, my DLT20a is the best **edit** rifle I can get my hands on. It does up to 175 points of damge (sliced) and moves at 5.8 s. I'd say that's pretty decent.
My current tactic is tohead shot everything until they die. Mind shot helps. I usually sent my pet out as draw fire (droid), while I headshot the **edit** to death. If they get too close, I might pull out the pistol if I don't feel like taking too much damage. Typically, if I know I'm about to kill it, I just run backwards and around until I headshot again for the killing blow. Seems to work so far.
I don't know much about spraysticks, but they sure look silly.
I can't wait to get my hands on a better rifle. And the T21? Who hasn't wanted that rifle since they first saw ANH??? It's a friggin tank killer!
My bothan does mind hits around 500 with his trusty 2 hand axe.
Try it you will LOVE it.
Heh. I have yet to see a T21 or a laser rifle. The most advanced weaponsmith I know JUST started making Spraysticks. I use it when I want to blow the health / action of a target that someone else is fighting and I like the small, sleek look of it when I'm in town --- less cumbersome than the DLT20a (which, I repeat, is the most advanced weapon other than the spraystick that is available).
Is that two-hand cleaver usable at Two-Hand Sword - II in the brawler line? Because that's 20 skill points invested just to get that far...
I don't PvP, but monsters (and especially NPC brawlers) do get into melee range with me occassionally. And it's usually fatal (for me
).... I tried using a pistol to /warning shot the monster away but it was too unreliable.
Of course, once I get the Conceal Shot and HeadShot3, perhaps I won't need to worry about meleeing as much... /shrug
my dlt20a does 600-800 dmg with headshot3
Every 4.8 seconds
And its not sliced....
Once I can get a reliable laser rifle, or T21, I'll go with that
I think I have the fastest laser rifle, it does 17-317dmg at a speed of 3.6. I still prefere my 15-180, speed 2.3 spray over all my rifles.
Well , here is what I have been doing , been doing it since Beta seems to work pretty well .
Forget the spraystick idea for close range encounters . Holding a rifle while anything gets up close gets you killed period .
I switch to pistol to warning shot them away - or else I toss an Adhesive Mesh trap onto the MOB which works WONDERFULLY well , if it connects . The MOB is simply frozen solid in one place for quite a long time .
Of course your goal is to not let anything get close to you . I achieve this with a Probot . A sturdy and immensely usefull tool for the rifleman . My only regret with the Probot is that I didn't get one sooner . Now that I know you can get creatures with 10k health at novice CH , I dunno ... I might pick that up but it seems soooooo ... cheap I guess . Probot does mostly Health damage , then Action , then a little bit of Mind . I find that spamming Headshot II's after an opening Mindshot will kill most creatures faster than the Probot will . Of course your targeting different HAM bars so the most efficient thing to do is a standard attack that helps the Probot kill faster . If that's what your looking for .
I use a DLT20A and I think it's a great rifle . Very under-rated IMO . Mine has raw stats of 100 - 157 with a speed of 5.8 . I get the speed down to 4.3 with Hairtrigger grips that I craft out to around 80% effectiveness . Nice CONSISTENT 500 - 600 damage with Headshot II at 45m . DPS of a good DLT is right up there with the higher stuff I think .
A word on the Spraystick ... I got one in Beta that was 7-77 with a speed of 2.0 and I wasn't crazy about it . Like someone else already mentioned it drains the Mindpool extremely quickly , faster than you are used to because you are squeezing off shots every 2 seconds . What's crazy is I put a speed powerup on that buggy spraystic I had and got the speed below 2.0 , went down to 1.2 I believe . Wouldn't believe how fast the MindPool drains with that gun . What I found a Spraystic is good for is leveling in big groups . I used it to target Health pool of the MOBs along with everyone else there ( Pistol users and TKA guys ) . You can run right up to it and get in a ton of shots before the MOB dies , get your nice big piece of the XP pie . Other than that I stay away from the Sprayer because I don't like sqeezing out a Headshot III for 250 points of damage . What I mean is the Sprayer is very inconsistent with it's damage and low end damage is quite common with it . It is a FUN gun , tho and has interesting visuals and a really neat sound to it . Like running with a rifle in one hand , too . Now , if we could DUAL WIELD two Sprayers ...
Also to solve the up-close mind-damage dillema I am going to pick up Eye Shot in the BH tree . This is a pistol attack that does Mind Damage and also induces blindness .
Wish list item # 1 - an advanced Probot that does the majority of it's damage to the Mind Pool .
I'm at the novice rifleman level right now; I have a template for most hard-to-kill creature encounters that I follow. ( note - if the creature will go down in two shots, forget about being fancy.I'll just slam it with two headshot2s back-to-back and wash my hands of the mess...)
First, I start with a well-crafted Tusken for the mindshot to start the bleeding. Next, I make a quick switch to my laser rifle for a headshot2 hit ( it has a spec range between 20-298, and often does obscene damage with one hit; I try to be conservative with the wear and tear as they're hard to come by
. By now the beast is either very dead, or very pissed off, which means here comes the charge. At this point I jump up from prone, fling a bone spur at it ( more nasty mind damage ) and whip out my trusty 2H curved sword ( it looks so much like a Katana I always wind up with a big grin on my Wookie mug... ) for aconfrontation-ending decapitation.

Where I feel you make a good point, you must realize certain things. On my server the resources for weapons like Laser Rifles and T21's do not even exist. No, it's not that they can't be found it's that they aren't there. We have plenty of Master Weaponsmith's just waiting to craft but there isn't any resources to make them.
