Thread: Current Issues
think rifle speed at 2.0 for a T-21 is a bit too fast but that is the missing link in this debate . We don't KNOW the rifle that said poster that claimed that speed was using . If it was a Sprayer , then we are getting our feathers ruffled for nothing . THat info needs to be clarified before this subject can be debated any further - God forbid some Dev reads people are pumping out HeadShot III's every 2 seconds and doesn't realize that speed can be attained without Master Rifleman with a Sprayer . IN FACT I can pump out HeadShots every 1.4 seconds because that is what my modified Sprayer hits for . So , that's even scarier . More info needed , subject closed .
Something got mixed up here somewhere, if you go back a few pages and read my original post from 7/15 it states that I can do about 3 head shots per second, not one every 2.0 seconds. Here is the quote.
I got Master Rifleman about 12 hrs ago, and after the jump my rifle fires way more than '+20 speed' faster. Can do about 3 head shots per second w/ any rifle. Speed is irrelevant. I assume this is a bug.
However, I have since determined that speed *isn't* irrelevant. Your weapon speed still matters, just not much. I can do roughly 2-3 headshots per second most of the time with my DLT20a (no resources yet for laser or T21 on Tarquinas) and fire nearly continuous headshots with a Spraystick. It'll just spit off about10 headshots in the course of 3-5 seconds. As another poster mentioned, this does tend to drain your mind HAM quite fast - so it's generally better to not even use your special moves, as your gun fires nearly continuously anyway.
I decided not to PvP with it anymore after a paradrop or two on Anchorhead, it felt a lot like griefing and I had a lot of people badgering me about how I was exploiting and such. I don't think it was intended that master rifleman skill upgrade makes you fire 3-4x faster than before.

Due to the current pet-grouping "exploit" it is EASILY possible to attain master rifleman in half a day to a day, even with depreciation of experience. I haven't tested, but even without pet-grouping, I assume it could be done(considering I did it with myself and two pets, with a dlt20a at that(no t21s or anything on our server yet.
Bah, I wasted like 40 hrs of grind then. :/
Well, I surrendered a bunch of my rifle skills not too long ago. Even on Starsider with a dlt20a I find PvP... stupid? Yeah PvP should be fast, but there is NO difference in the Professions right now. Basically, it's "Hey I can one-shot you with Headshot!", responded by "Not if I one-shot you with Eyeshot first!", Etc. I have now taken up Teras Kasi instead, rifle being far too easy, unsatisfying, etc.

I stopped reading this thread here...
And that would be your problem, I have said this a good 10 or more times. Read all my posts before you post. It helps alot, and saves alot of time for me to not have to keep repeating myself. I might as well put this in my signature, since so many of you stop reading about half way through the thread. Atleast go through and read my posts.
My issues:
- Rifle xp in groups is just too low, I always have to solo if I want to get good xp.
- Strafe Shot is a pretty useless skill; I'm fine with getting it at Novice Rifleman, but let's get a different, more useful and powerful skill to represent the fact that the person has achieved Master Rifleman. A ranged knockdown would be great (it fits in too, for example maybe it's called Shoulder Shot or Neck Shot, and because of the force of the blaster bolt when it hits them, it causes them to fall down).
- This sort of ties in with the above issue. Basically, I'd like to see some more abilities that are related to pure damage. Right now the onlydiscipline with truely useful abilities in PvP is the Sniping Accuracy discipline, the rest are just support that aren't necessary or aren't useful. For example, Pistoleer's get abilities such as Double Tap, what is our equivilant? We just have shots that stun, startle and dizzy outside of the Sniping Accuracy discipline. (Another idea, similar to my Shoulder Shot/Neck Shot thing, is a shot that does very little damage, but when it hits the person it hits them so hard that it causes them to fly back 5-10m. I'd also like to see more sniping type moves; for example, if we can aim well enough to hit them between the eyes, how come we can't hit the weapon or stimpack out of their hand?).
- Longer range would be also be great.
My biggest issue with rifleman is range we should have massive range we are RIFLEMEN for the love of god. Any of you shot IRL ? Im pretty good , pistol 100ft is about the max range i can be effective on a head size target, and the speed will be consistant. With a rifle and a good scope ( sniper ) I can be effective out to about 800m . Now I am not asking for riflemen to be able to shoot stuff at 800m ( would be cool tho ) but **edit** give me a break 64m in this game is a joke. Either make pistols and carbs ineffective at 64m or increase our range to about 120m. I mean Hello McFly!!!!!!!!! If range is increased for us we become more what we should be, then the speed of your weapon is not so much an issue.
few other things
1. porting around when you go prone is bad M'Kay
2. Ham cost on my Laser Rifle is way to high imo at 64mind ( using a 16-314dam 6.9 speed unsliced laser rifle)
3. make the the mindshots and headshots ( and this goes for other professions too ) be worth it the higher up the tree you go.
4. PvP even if i get the first shot because of pistols and carbs having the same effective range as I do if I am not able to kill in one shot I am very dead very fast.
5. I tested beta 3 and the mob friends agroing you but not the one your shooting at has been around forever and been bugged to death, I honestly dont think this will ever be fixed since it promotes grouping ( i guess )
6. Mobs should have to deal with the same issues , I have been shot by a rebel sgt using a pistol at over 70m. I have been chased up hills by a fambaa and other big mobs with them gaining on me ( im a ranger also) no way a fambaa should be able to run up the hill the same speed or faster than i can. Make the mobs more inline with what PCs can and cant do depending on thier class and I think everyone will be happy.
Anyway the Range issue is the biggest problem I see for us, pistols and carbs are far too effective at the max range.

and if something is nibbling on your rear, stop being lazy and just click on them. You switch targets once you target something AND queue an attack. So if you target something and hit /headshot2, and then you want to switch targets, target something else as your look-at target (the blue brackets) and hit /headshot2 (or double click on them, that will target them and queue a regular autoattack) and then the brackets will turn yellow and you'll start engaging them
increasing range isn't going to happen due to engine issues/devs being too lazy to change the engine
Here are my thoughts... and if you don't like em.... I don't care.
1) For those saying that Our Correspondent should step down, I have one question.... did you apply for the job? Sit down and shut up... Or apply next time if you think you can do it better... the devs stated that this position would rotate
2) The whole combat system is based on one engine. To increase our range you would have to change the whole system. Now changing effective range isn't quite as difficult (from what I've read)... and should IMHO be looked at eventually, but there are more pressing concerns.
3) The Game has only been out 1 month and so far I've like it. Does it have bugs? Hell ya... is it still fun? You bet your ass it is. Nothing is fixed overnight (not truly), for those of you that thought this game would be problem free at launch.... the easter bunny hides your eggs with the help of the tooth fairy.
4) No problem that we face (as riflemen) is so insurmountable that good tactics and coordination can't usually overcome.
5)And finally. It's a GAME.... not real life.... stop comparing the two.... You want real life go enlist in the military.
Oh wait... I guess I really don't have any true issues.... just the whiners..... nevermind

This is my response to the above(zev):
1) No comment, I agree.
2) The system, to my knowledge, doesn't have some hardlimit cap on attack range at 64(NPCs will fire over 64m). It is set up at 64m cap because that's half the distance where NPCs and PCs appear on another persons computer, and half that provides room for lag and so forth. Both of these things could be increased without too much difficulty, except strain on peoples computers. Extending the range cap without extending the sight range cap causes problems, such as people being shot without even having their computers register that the person was there.
3) The majority of this thread isn't dev flaming, or even correspondent flaming, it's just making suggestions that we hope can benefit the game. You are completely overreacting to SOMETHING considering you even made this sub-point in your post.
4) Tactics don't do much in this game. The majority of things that impair your sight visually, don't in game. The radar allows easy access to counter-flanking techniques. Battles come down to 1 shot, etc. What the majority of the posters on this post have done is tried to provide helpful comments on making tactics and such valid in SWG.
5) I have no idea why you even wrote this. "Yay, let's join the military to hunt people with our laser rifles". Yes, it is a game, but the game is based on a pseudo-realistic foundation(That of the star wars universe). When people state that certain things aren't realistic, they are obviously referencing to the star wars universe.
I guess I don't have any true issues... except unintelligble flamers who try to belittle people without any real justification.
There won't be any tactics in PvP until all the ridiculous knockdown style attacks are changed and until damage vs other players is cut by at least 75%. One shot kills? All that is is surprise, and with the current covert vs overt system, you're screwed.
If you kill a guy in a city - he clones 30 seconds away, with no penalties except maybe 10 points of faction. He runs back to where you are, with that helpful red dot on the radar. He runs up to you and taunts you, then kills you in one shot while you can't do a **edit** thing. Joy.
As for tactics against PvE targets.. well, I haven't seen any except stuff that borders on "exploits". Sure, you can use walls and houses and kiting techniques to kill stuff. That's tactics? But, oh well, not like there's any raid style mobs anyway, so there's no reason to continue solo'ing those dark jedis after your first.

Good point... I forgot about getting nailed from about 80m while running for my life from that rebel specforce spawn the other night. Thanks for reminding. What could be the reason for NPC's shooting at this range though, a bug?
And again thanks for educating me on the reasons for the current range system (seriously)..... I didn't recall seeing as that being the reason. Just thinking while I type here... wouldn't the minimum system requirements for the game help alleviate the need for this minimal range system because of the RAM and Video Card requirements being called for?

I wasn't replying to this only thread per se. I only posted on this thread after reading most of the other comments from the other threads.... hence my interpretation of "Current Issues". Not just from this thread only. Sorry if that was confusing....

I think this may be a legitimate point of contention here. I believe that if you pay attention to what it is you are shooting at (mostly PvE here.... not so much PvP) and pay attention to the effective range of your weapon... I consider that a tactic. In regards to PvP.... tactics comes in to play by how you engage your enemy... diversionary tactics... false thrusts.... disinformation (using coverts as forward spotters and such).... These are coordinated tactics. Speaking for myself and I guess for the guys (and gal) I group with.... once the fighting starts... I don't really take much time to look at my radar... just what is in front of me/us.
Yes... much of the battle comes down to the "1 shot 1 kill" maxim.... and I think as players progress the importance of group tactics will become apparent.... While the idea of the lone sniper is cool.... I think the game currently calls for mixed unit tactics. I applaud those that have made postings considering their tactics and encourage others to do so as well.... but keep in mind... just because it works for you doens't mean it works for everyone else. Also keep in mind... play styles vary... I love my Laser Rifle..... some of you don't.... This is a play style....
Perhaps we should start a thread for just tactics? I don't remember seeing one dedicated to just that. I would like to see more about what tactics you use and when you use them.....

I wrote this because of the plethora of posts saying "In real life I can shoot further with my pistol/rifle/spitwad." This game is based on a movie... fantasy and myth.... No where have I seen the disclaimer "based on true events".
My point was.... this isn't real life. I thought that was pretty evident....
And as far as your little "biting" and "oh so scathing" comment... I direct you to my first line
