Thread: Current Issues
Aldeon, I checked out the AR thing before I posted. First off, AR2 vs AR1 should do 125% damage not 100%. Also, what about AR2 vs AR0? Should be 156%. It isn't.
I just wanted to throw in my issues. First, it is my understanding that the developers are taking this very seriously, and I appreciate this opportunity for the community to get their voices heard. However, I think it is the job of the developers to determine balancing, and our job to put on the table what we feel our own issues as riflemen are. Someone has the bigger picture, and for us to start squabbling overthe impacts that we have on other professions means that we have less time for our own. I know that sounds selfish, but that is why they have a different correspondant for each profession.
Quite frankly, I think it is unbalanced for a sniper in cover to blow someone's head off at range. But you know what? That is the idea. How many times are you going to have that advantage? I rarely have the luxury of going prone, aiming, and taking my sweet time firing at an unaware target. As for the speed issue, well, I agree with those who say that we are still the slowest at master. If they see you first, 2.0 speed is very, very slow. And I am a wookie, so I get no armor whatsoever, and high HAM isn't high enough to save me if I still have that rifle in my hand when they close into melee range. If I get PvP sniped in one shot without me seeing the assailant, well kudos to the sniper. That IS fun, because it isn't going to happen often, and when it does, adrenaline rush!
What isn't fun is having a group of animals aggro when you fire on one of thier member, no matter if you are in cover, or dancing around yelling. And specials should work. I didn't get that much XP just so I could spam a higher-damage version of something I got as a novice marksman. Tactics are about what happens whenI miss that first high-damage shot and the enemydecides to close the gap. Currently,I throwmyrifle on the ground and burst run, because, well, what else do I have?
I am not a sniper so that I can swap blaster bolts with someone. Leave that to people who CAN wear armor. The sniper's motto is NOT "Three Shots, One Kill". I think it is more along the lines of the uniform singular.
With regards to PvP balance, I think Rifleman are far from being overpowered. Even CH masters are no match for undershanded shot. If the 1000+ average damage didn't kill you then the knockdown surely will. Some ppl are just guessing what PvP is like and basing there nerfing decisions without any actual experience. I don't include you in that category Aldeon since based on your posts it seems you actually test out a lot of things before speaking of it. However, I don't think bringing up the riflespeed issue for PvP balance is the right thing to do. It might be a legitimite issue but I would rank it very low in the food chain and not worth mentioning until the major PvP problems gets addressed.
If we are ever given a longer range or radar invisibility then I would definately agree that something needs to be done about our dps. But that's a big if.
Aldeon: good issues here. But I'm pretty sure that rifles are armour-piercing, they ignore armour, even AR3.
Also, about how you want the red dot on the radar to dissapear when you take cover, the radar is there for a reason. It's there so that cheaters don't make their own radars (since the server sends you all the information anyway) in order to have an advantage over honest players. If this wasn't an issue, we wouldn't have radar at all.
Just a note or two.
DOT bleed: It's just sort of an unassigned damage, when you use anything else it assumes that's what caused all the bleeding. Like,I have 2H sword,I bleed something and then smack it with the sword, All my XP goes into sword. Also, if all your doing to kill something and then run far far away without even taking anothe shot, what makes you think you even deserve the XP? I think that's a bug that doesn't really need to be worried about, because the only time it makes any difference is when you're using really weak tactics. Just take another shot and then run, ya poor baby.
Range: Hardware also come in here. I'm running a Radeon 9700 and the game sometimes draws mobs within 64 feet. If the range gets extended very far people will have shots coming out of nowhere, and not even having aything to fire back at. Yeah, i know that's really tempting but that's just silly to be outside someones draw range, not to mention you can't target something if it's outside of your own.
And thanks to Aldeon for being reasonable about this. Going to the Devs asking for godlike powers is going to get us nowhere. I think he's asking for very reasonable bug fixes and balance tweaks that make our abilities fit better as well as keep us balanced. Remember Xaolin Xao? He was obviously an exploit, but the only difference between him and a master rifleman is 2 weeks and XP. Keep it balanced and we'll get what we need.
Heh..80% ofpistoleers or carbineers that i know doing the pistole or carbine tree of BH as well and their speed is INSANE...
I dont get why shouldthe riflemancorrespondend want to get the class nerfed. :/

Its +80 to speed, and no I dont think it shoudl stay that way. If both, Rifle and Pistoleer shoot at 2.0 speed, wich one do you think you would choose? Rifleman for the extreme damage, or Pistoleer for the "fast yet less dmg." Its no longer fast, when we can shoot at 2.0 as well.
I stopped reading this thread here...
The thing is, people are getting pistols down to .9 speed, yet the FASTEST rifle I've EVER seen is a 4.2 Laser, expirimented to the max bythe first, and most skilledMaster Weaponsmith..and sliced 29% speed
Please, PLEASE pick someone else to be a corespondent, you obviously show you know nothing about PvP, specifically PvP with a rifle.
Hey,
Just now saw this thread. It's actually more like 2 headshots per second as a master rifleman using a spd 5.0 weapon, not 1 headshot every 2 seconds. I'm quite sure this isn't working as intended, altho it has been pretty nice the last 2 weeks or so.

I didn't read EVERY single post, but I thought I should mention the following:
Jax and Narglatches (and a few other creatures and some other... tactics) allow someone to go from novice rifleman to master rifleman in about half-a-day to a day. Obviously, while this is not directly a nerf on rifleman, has a severe effect on Rifleman being an "elite"(hardly elite when it'seasier to get than Survival exp)profession.Anyways, after pointing out that oversight(I am pretty sure jax aren't supposed to move slower than a rifleman who is crawling...), I want to move on to some ideas I'd like passed along:
1) Make it so rifleman have a delay of say, 1-2 seconds on switching to a different weapon, or at least the 250% melee damage taken still applies. In PvP right now, that huge damage increase is basically a moot point, because most people will just switch unarmed, and run away until they can safely get a shot off. This is a counter-strike style idea, basically where you can't instantly switch from say an AWP to a pistol(sorry for the CS reference) for close range.
2) I noticed that you made posted an idea on enhanced rifle range, but I think that this in general would unbalance PvP, though it is a good idea, so I thought of some r
Even if you kited 20 of these at once, you would not go from novice to Master in 1/2 a day or a day. It would take several days due to EXP depreciation from advancing your skills - even if you maximized EXP by waiting until you capped, and combat EXP had caught up.
But, pistoleers or carbineers can also kill these very slow mobs just as easy, with health bleeding, etc. So that's not really a flaw with a specific ranged combat profession, it is a flaw with them all.
