I believe one simple fact is being overlooked. The longer the game is out the more time people have to master their professions. I am not a power-gamer and have been playing for about 4 months now. I am just now getting close to mastering Rifleman. It has nothing to do with the patches, its just a matter of time.

Also, as time goes by people learn the game and it becomes easier to play all professions. I played UO from day one, and of course nobody was a master of anything for quite a while but within a year a majority of the players had mastered at least a couple skills.

There will always be new players coming into the game but as a game matures a larger and larger percentage will be masters of their chosen profession. Add in the fact that this game has a ton of Holo-grinding power gamers and you will see large increases of every profession. The big question, will be how many people actually keep the profession after they master it.
