Thread: Futuristic Rifleman Ghuille Suit....
1) Basic Ghillie suit at Conceal2 - Mainly for looks but when worn add a bonus to camo skill (for against animal mobs - less aggro chance when stalking)
2) Advanced Ghillie suit at Conceal4 - Adds more to camo skill, but will hide the player from radar up to a range of 60m andthe ability to tab target the user (to allow you to get into position and get a shot off - any better than that and it gets unbalancing)
3) Looses radar/tab immunity after first shot taken - for the sake of balance
4) Changable colour scheme UI - like the sun glasses have - for the different terrain, sandy for tant, green for naboo etc.
5) Sniper made and worn - but requires parts from Tailors, Scouts(hide etc)
6) unable to wear helm, chest and pants armour pieces when equipped.
7) player moves 20% slower when it is equiped.
8) takes damage and looses condition like armour when shot - so you have to make a new one every so often.
It wants to be more of a defensive/ambush orrientated item.
If rangers want it too maybe they could get one in their camo tree. Feedback pls ppl.
10) takes 5 units of inv space
11) I would imagine it should also come with some HAM costs too..
The "preadator" style cloak was available 4000 years before the rise of the Empire. If KOTOR is a suitable example. I personally do not think that it is.
In any case, the timeframe for SW, being compared to real life, is not too far off from an apples to oranges comparison.
Star Wars takes place a LONG TIME AGO, in a Galaxy Far, Far away.
If all these "cloaking devices should be avail to all" posts had any merit, we would not see people with axes or swords, not to mention all the wooden staffs.
I still like this idea.
Just because there are some people that useless advanced weapons such as axes, staffs, or swords does not mean that there is better technology out there, just look at all of the Laser weapons, Ion cannons, and energy weapons being used.
Sorry, it should read,
"Just because there are some people that useless advanced weapons such as axes, staffs, or swords does not mean that there isnot better technology out there, just look at all of the Laser weapons, Ion cannons, and energy weapons being used."
Cloaking technology, in any sci-fi universe is always portrayed as risky business. Both Star Wars and Star Trek have cloaking devices but none of them work as expected.
As for the Star Wars universe specifically, a cloaking device for ships was a major disadvantage because it made you effectively blind to the outside world when used. I believe the first personto try and make cloaking a viable tactic was Grand Admiral Thrawn.
As for the whole ghille suit thing...just give rangers and rifleman a cert to wear it. The item itself is made by tailors, and it gives you a +bonus to concealment/takecover
The not showing up on radar (probably a master skill though) could maybe be up to where the target gets to within in a certain minimum range of us and then we show up (maybe when they get inside of our ideal range) If we were to be totally invisible on radars I would guarantee ppl would be shouting NERF,NERF,NERF! so a bit of moderation might be the way to get this through and keep it.
I think this is an excellent idea! well of course i do...I posted it...lol...anyway....
I love sandzibarr's suggestions! They are the perfect representation of it! Except for HAM costs, I don't like that idea.... We're giving up moving speed and bunch of other stuff, personally, I don't wear armor simply because of HAM costs, so if the ghillie suit ever came out and it had HAM costs, I'll be sure to avoid em. Also I think the PvP (I don't PVP that often) radar range should be shifted to 55m or so, 60m means all they need to do is stare at their radar and run in aSMALL circle, which will take less than a second, almost completely eliminating the whole radar cloak gig. Should at least take a second or second and a half to find us.
Oh, and another suggestion that I haven't seen so far:
You'll have to take cover before the suits adavantages take effect.
But yes, good ideas! I really hope that this will be implemented, it would make this class a bit more interesting.
A thouhgt i had about this wonderful topic that all i think would agree to and it would really roll into the whole flavour of being a sniper.
With the Guille suite and the ability to be seen on the Radar.
Lets do it like this.
There should be a delay when you take it off and when you put it back on to stop people from simply taking it off to move then put it back on when they are in the preferred position.
To that extent lets introuduce these ideas.
When you initially put it on, you have to be prone to do it, taking some HAM damage, 50/50/50 at a guess.
If you remove the guille suit, you can nor put it back on for at least a minute. No ham costs though incase you need to make a quick exit.
If you move you are seen on the rader for5 secs after you stop moving. I.e. getting into position will be seen. Once you have stopped moving and have stayed still for5 secs, then your DOT disappears until you move again.
If you fire, you are seen for5 secs on the radar after your last fire is shot.
I think this is the only way to make it fair, on us and also on the players.
Add to that, i think there should be 3 distinct styles. The Rifleman Guille Suit, with its various models, The Ranger with its various models, and for the Uber The RIfleman / Ranger combo suit.
Yes i am a Ranger / Rifleman but i dont suggest the reason becuase of that. I simply think that it makes sense that a Rifleman and a Ranger should have a Guille Suit of some sought. But if you are both a Rifleman and Ranger you are more than likely trying to be a really really good hunter, so with that you should be able to create a Ranger / Rifleman Hybrid which is better that the other too, but notthat much better.
You take into consideration that the Rifleman has Block and the Ranger has Camo - if you where to somehow combine the two it would make for a better guille suit. Doing it this way wouldnt make it so that every rifleman is a ranger, and vice versa, every ranger is a rifleman, becuase they have there own that they can use, but a ranger/rifleman combo should be there as well. MY opinion though.
What you guys thinks?

Good suggestions Sandzibar
1) sounds like a good idea.... gives a plus to camoflauge skills...
2) I like this idea to.. I think it should be a master concealment skill to be able to hide from radar (limitedly of course)
3) A good idea for game balance... but only PVP I think... a mob should still have to check to see... much like the conceal shot works now.
4) I like the idea of the different colors for different terrains... I do like the early suggestion of each skill level unlocks a different type of terrain, with the associated negative effects of using the wrong ghillie in the wrong environment.
5) Another good idea... fiberplast panels... hide... even socket it with skill enhancers would be cool. I like the idea of being able to use BE crafted materials in its construction too.
6) Might as well make it all armour.... The fact that you cannot wear armour with a ghillie suit isn't a bad idea either.
7) Good idea... the item is bulky and cumbersome
8) Yup... a good idea
9)Not sure about this one... may I ask your ideas behind this one?
10) Yup... no problem here... like I said.. the item is rather bulky and cumbersome
11) I dont' know about HAM costs.... maybe an initial HAM cost like when you first use Take Cover command...
I think that you should only be able to use this item in a TakeCover situation to get any bonuses... like what was stated earlier, "I don't want to see a bunch of bushes with feet running around the city"... but what hilarious visual image.

Well its not possible to wear anything else if youve got one on.. its hot and **edit** heavy.. worse when it rains - weighs a ton. You just wouldnt be able to get a pack on over it.Though the one i tried was a home made affair that a mate has got(though he followed 'proper military' techniques to make it) im pretty sure its very similar to the reals ones used. It was just to try and find some disadvantages to conteract the HUGE advantage of being able to sneak up on ppl.
If the radar immunity only worked when inTakeCover mode, my only fear would be that by the time we crawled into position (assuming you have sneak and the devs fix the currently broken prone movement bonus) the target would have buggered off. I think that only getting one shot off before being detected, and only being hidden over 55m is fair.
Walking bushes eh? what do you think wookies are?
I think with the speed slowdown and thelack of backpack use (we all know how precious inv space is)would help prevent ppl from wearing them alot of thetime.. and keep it a combat orientated item.

Ahhh... ok. I was thinking more of having the ghillie suit on over everything, including the backpack. Makes sense now.... we were looking at it from a different direction. I haven't really thought of my Backpack as an old alice-pack but now that makes more sense.

I think this aspect should be debated a lot more.... I agree with you as far as only having one shot until you show up on the radar again is good though. What kind of command shouldwe be using for this ablility or should it be a new command instead of an old one rewritten?
I can already here thenerfcry starting already.

Nah, they are big walking dust mops. (and don't ask about what they smell like when it rains... whew!)

I like the speed slow down, and now that I see what you meant about not having a backpack that doesn't sound bad either.
I was thinking along the lines of 2 new commands associated with the 2 different levels of stealth ability..
/hide1; for the ghillie suit level1 (obtained at camo tree box 2) - that for a HAM cost adds to your camo skill, to help prevent aggro from mobs (similar to maskscent - just maybe not nearly as good so as not to remove anything from the scout and ranger profs). At the end of the day this suit version is mainly for looks.. you are really mainly gonna be shooting for the level2 version where the practical usage really comes into play.
/hide2; for ghillie suit level2 (obtained at camo tree box4) - More of a HAM cost but confers the 'hide from radar' and 'anti-tab lock' functionality.
Again similar to maskscent, once detected (or after youve lost camo from taking a shot), a timer prevents the player from rehiding for 60secs. I guess you dont really need a diff suit at camo box4.. as the new special move is more of the key than the suit itself. I think it would compliment mindshot well.. after all a damaging shot from out of nowhere really effects morale, which is in effect basically what the mind damage tick of the MS movesare doing.
I'd like to thank Aldeon for taking the time to post a reply on this thread. As you can see this idea is recommended and requested by many people. I don't think a single person said that this shouldn't be implemented, unless of course you ask another class lol. Anyway there are alot of good ideas here, and the people here are going through great pains to think of how tohave this fun feature inputted at the same time making it balanced.
I REALLY hope this gets out, the ideas here are generally balanced, keeps to the class (Sniper, ranger), this item is interdependent in its crafting (A one of a kind, besides racial restrictions {wookie}thiswould be a class restriction), and the MAIN problem, its gives us a fighting chance after the rediculously unfair and fake damage nerf. Rifles are generally 10x stronger and longer range than a handgun, that is why maybe some of us chose to be Rifleman, but noooooo, they make us equal range with highly unbalanced range modifiers, now they make our High Power Rifles WEAKER than PISTOLSfor the sake of screwing us up the ass so when they pee it will be coming out of our mouths(Isn't that the real reason?).
I hardly ever PvP, but just the concept that we are getting jipped of our AP points and natural damage to PvP is highly disturbing. Now I don't want to PvP even more. Sniper class, I don't mind if I don't get 1 shot kills(Which we are meant to), I dont mind having to shoot twice to drop an player opponent, I don't even mind having to shoot a third to eliminate a PC, but by the fourth, we're already dead. There should never even be a second shot. This is what we are folks, this is the reason why we signed up for Rifleman, we are meant to kill in one shot, if you don't like that idea then don't be a rifleman, becausethat is what we are. We are meant to instill fear, confusion, panic, and demoralizationin our opponents because they know that a person on the other end of a rifle with a scope knows EXACTLY where they are but they can't see the shooter, THAT, is what we are. Rifles outrangeand are more powerful than any other handheld weapon (besides explosives) ever used, that is whatWE use.
Fellow Rifleman, I believe that we are getting thoroughly screwed. In the other hand the name is quite misleading, and the skills and weapon that we can use to match. Standard Rifleman use Assault Rifles, if Rifleman is elite to marksman, than Snipers are elite to rifleman.
Bah, getting distracted after reading some other posts and getting pissed off, sorry..now back on track. Yes the ghillie suit should serve as both cosmetic and technical. Read the posts because they have really good, and I mean REALLY good suggestions and ideasin defense of balance (Something the makers of this game is missing, less efficient than a pistol? Get real! Were everybody smoking pot the day they decided to do that?, or were they even thinking at all and just pressed the big green "Ok" button to pass it?)
Argh! ok man...breathe.....in....out.....breathe in......breathe out.........take a deep breath...........hold it.....hold it.........don't let it out yet......................................................................now exhale slowly............
