Thread: Changing to +20 melee to something else

Change it ranged defense as Tek says. Melee degense bonuses should be for the professions that choose to melee, not the ones that try to stay at a range.

Ok, im giving up on this thread.


I think we can all see some very clear conclusions, however.


1. +20 Block (to which an entirebranch is devoted to) is broken.


2. +20 Melee Defence (to which another branch is devoted to) is either useless (if the 250% -20% theorum Aldeon quoted is true) or its completely broken (if the later hit/miss theorum he quoted is true). So its either useless, or broken and useless.


3. +100 cover (to which yet ANOTHER branch is devoted to) seems to do absolutely nothing (or at least absolutely nothing useful).


4. Conceal Shot (and even Take Cover itself) is living up to 10% of its potential. This could be a skill that defines and shapes the riflemen. Instead its some **edit**ty attack that does random damage and takes 10 minutes to kill anything.






Aldeon, what ever the theorum for +20 melee defence is.. something needs to be done. It seems like 75% of our tree is either broken or useless. You MUSTpound this into the devs every chance you get. I, and many others, would like to see the letters your sending to the Devs and the letters your getting back. Other correspondents are posting these letters on their forums, i believe you should be doing the same.

This is something I've complained about in the GCW forum, the Swordsman forum, the general discussion forum and now here.


I don't think defense skills do ANYTHING. I think they are quite possibly all broken, or if they work, their effect is so minimal as to be unseen to the naked eye.


We need to establish what, if anything, this skill actually does before we decide what we want to replace it with. Even as a rifleman/swordsman with melee defense from two trees, I still rely on my armor and my medic to keep me going. I don't get missed very often.

It doesn't make you dodge. The ability to dodge comes fromthe skill "dodge." Melee defense simply increases the chance of a melee enemy "missing" you. I'm sure you've had an enemy miss you before.


Reduced damage comes from a skill called combat toughness--riflemen don't get it.

I would be willing to drop this, to increase + to block. What does everyone else think? (assuming they fix block) Same thing really as melee defense except instead we block. And its cooler to block.

I actually like the +20 melee defense. What is the difference between defense and toughness. I was under the impression that defense was how often they hit and toughness was how much damage you take. If melee defense makes us get hit less, Hey, can't complain with that. If it just makes it so we take less damage, I'm also ok with that because I am melee 2hd sword. If anything gets withing about 15 m i bust out the advanced 2hd curved sword. How ever, I see that if you don't have melee skills, and this just reduces damage, then it is a big fast waste

it helps us, but barely. once people get up to us, we might as well lay down and die for htem, with or without the +20 melee. i say it should be changed to something else rifleman could actually use, and if block is actually effective once its fixed, possibly that, but i doubt theyd make a whole different column do the same thing.
