Thread: Changing to +20 melee to something else

Anyways i would keep this defense thing. Dont forget it can be our plus point. BHs are good in attack but they are completly defenseless. If the mods are strongs then it will change the situation for riflemen.

Aldeon, in case you werent aware, is our rifleman correspondent. He has direct contact with SOE. Though his math skills may not be the best *grin*, i dont think he would just randomly make something up like that.

I got that info from other correspondants, ive also been told by friends that it increases miss rate.

So it may not be 100 percent true.


Ah ok, here it is, there is melee defense(miss rate), and then there is unarmed defense (dmg reduction) My mistake, I was going off false reports.

Unless of course the info Im reading is wrong, its all up in the air until I see it from the dev. The strategy guide is wrong half the time, and so are people.

It doesnt work if this is true, I have not yet dodged a melee hit ever.


Well knowing this however, I dont think changing it to ranged defense would be a good idea, maybe increasing our block would. When they fix it. (block is for ranged attacks) Seems silly to give us ranged defense, and block.


Has anyone ever dodged a ranged or melee shot...I know I have never.

All of the math aside: It's a pretty crappy deal to have to add another profession (Brawler, Swordsman, Fencer, TKA) to get any effect from a bonus that should apply to the profession you already have. +20 is so insignificant that it has to be stacked with other bonuses to be noticed.

If this were changed, you'd have a lot of pissed off rifleman/melee hybrids.

If +20 melee did anything, I'd say keep it.


It's supposed to make you get missed more, which would be great. Creature suddenly turns on you or something and takes a swipe, you'd like to be missed rather than hit for 1200 damage because you're holding a rifle.


But I'm not convinced that +20 melee defense or +20 ranged defense or +50 ranged defense does a **edit** thing for you.

Im pretty sure it doesnt work as an evasion style defence. I believe thats what block/dodge/counterattack are for.

Perhaps our esteemed Rifleman Correspondent can ask SOE just what, exactly, melee defence does? While hes at it he can ask what the +100 to concealment we get does.

I love the +20 melee don't take it away, but they could always increase the +2's to ranged to +5's

Everyone has enough points to master 2 - 3 trees. I'd say the chances of players having some type of hybrid that isn't a Rifleman and a crafting class is pretty high. I have a Rifleman/Polearm combo and in my Polearm line I still only get +20 and I'd have to say it makes quite a difference when you're leveling. Melee defense is one of those things that seems to be meant for multiple classes. If it wasn't then why isn't it all converted to terms of Polearm/Unarmed/2handed/1handed melee toughness?
