Thread: To all RIFLEMAN Say Goodbye to Mind Special Damage
Ok, ill say this once.
The 'new' ham system will probably mean mind is healable. It WILL mean that specials cost is not healable at all. That is fact, the system was put on test for a very short time a couple of months ago.It wasnt on long enough to make any judgements, it may even have changed.
Headshot will not be gone, nor eyeshot or headhit. All it means is that it will be healable, HOWEVER, as the people moaning most here also like to point out, we cant heal our specials costs, well, neither will anyone else.
Until you see this new system in action, you cannot make statements like
'Headshot is being removed, rifleman is dead' , it is plain idiocy.
Publish 8 will be on test in a couple of weeks, then you will find out how it all works.Until then, may I suggest we wait and see, as some of the people here may look extremely stupid very soon if they carry on. ![]()
what SWG is passing off as rifles are actually carbines and what they are passing off as carbines are actually sub-machine guns.
the only two weapons that come across as rifles and fit any sort of traditional definition are the tuskan rifle the DLT20a the CDEF and the T21
i am using a very narrow definition in the true sense of the word.
a carbine is a smaller less accurate faster to fire version of a rifle. the differences are very small but fundamental in how they are applied in warfare. the realities of warfare preclude the use of a true rifle and carbines have since around 1960 dominated the battlefield.
with the performance enhancements that modern technology has given to modern materials and precision manufacturing techniques weapons like the AR15/M16 have pretty much replaced the Rifle in almost all military roles. the only reserve of the traditional rifle is that of sniper and even then that territory is shrinking. pretty soon the only place you will find rifles will be in hunting lodges.
im not trying to cause a ruckus or flame anyone. but what SWG is calling rifles and carbines do not fit the definitions in the real world.
a carbine doesnt have to fit all of the definition to become a carbine. the AR15/M16 and AK47 are carbines because of their sustained rapid fire and leight weight. the LeeEnfield Jungle Carbine fits in the carbine category altho it uses a full size round because it has a much shortened barrel decreasing its overall length.
a good example of something not fitting in exactly is my .458winmag. some would say it is a rifle. it is not it is a carbine. it lacks the range of a rifle and the barrel length of a rifle. it was designed to fire a VERY powerful cartridge out of a weapon that was much smaller than the majority of those being used in the same role allowing for rapid follow-up shots and very good maneuverability in thick brush.
the definition of rifles and carbines are mostly about overall length and whether the weapon has a folding stock or not and does not take into consideration what role the weapon plays and how it differs from its close relatives and their roles. we have been using a carbine for so long as our main military weapon that it has become the new definition of a rifle. compaired to a traditional rifle the M16 fits the definition of carbine better than it does that of rifle and has been our service rifle longer than i have been alive hehe
i hope that clears up my take on it some.

LOL so your trying to say that a society that hasfar superior technology compared to real world right now, would have inferior weapons to those we currently produce? heh Why not make riflemen use catapults, thenit would account for a sniperstrigger speed being so slow.
I'm saying that this is a freaking computer game, not a RL combat sim. If the devs decided that rifles should be slower than pistols, so be it.
No, but it is a Starwars combat sim. Therefore, they are constrained by the limits of that "reality." That reality is based on a futuristic vision of RL, and, therefore, it is perfectly valid to draw comparisions between weapons as they are used in the real world and weapons in the Star Wars universe and weapons in the game. After all, people are constantly coming to this board and suggesting that all of our weapons should fire with the speed of a musket. So the question is why? What basis is there for that? Yes, if the Devs want tomake it so that the T21 is a muzzle loading blunderbuss, they can do that, but every honest person would have to ask what possible justification was there for that, and "Because we said so" would be a wholly inadequate answer.
Yes, it is a computer game, but no one would say, "because the devs said so," would justify, for instance, giving a Master Jedi a damage range of 1 - 5. There are built in limits to what they can and cannot do in order to remain true to the purpose of the game, and that is to simulate the "real" world of the Star Wars universe.
