Thread: Latest Dev post regarding combat GASP Rifles included!
PsychoticChipmunk, The trouble with that is that pistols would become useless, they do need to be able to fairly balanced as this is a game and not real life.
The trouble with the proposed system is it seems pistols have no weakness at all, that I can see with 2 exceptions; they can't do mind damage (healable soon if you believe the Devs) and they have no pistols over AP1 (only an issue in PvE).
These changes all sound quite good as long as they're willing to rebalance the weapons and special attacks as well. Saying this is "the end of the rifleman class" is a laugh.
So rifles are limited to 3 seconds and pistols to .5 -- as long as rifles do 6 times the damage per shot as a pistol, who cares? (And as long as pistols can't kill you in 3 shots.)
Could be that the T21 is going to become the next LLC or Flamethrower, firing once every 3 seconds but for 2000 damage. In PvP. Too early to say. I imagine they'll be deciding things like that when they decide what they're doing with mind heals.
Improving /takecover is nice, although they need to realize it's useless in PvP because we will never get off more than 2 shots before our target is standing in front of us with a pistol, shooting us in the eye, forcing us to stand up because we can't hit anything from a covered state.
Also good to know that our main PvP enemy, Eyeshot, is being moved to Master Bounty Hunter. The new attack had better suck if it's going to hit mind, though. Even if it's half as good as Eyeshot it will still beat riflemen in PvP.
I just left work & saw the dev thread is getting quite long now.. Are there a bunch of people crying about eyeshot?
Heh, thats kind of funny. The people who have been dabbling in BH for the pistol eyeshot getting a smack & the Master BH gets a perk. I think that a lot of the BH profession purists, the ones who worked hard on red marksto get to master,are quite pleased by that..

And while riflemen have made numerous posts on the discussion forums, if we give up due to the appearance of apathy by the devs, we will never get heard.
So... I just hope that Aldeon doesnt get frustrated and quit ala the first commando correspondant!

well i guessthe dev's read Stephen King's "Gunslinger" series because it is blatantly obvious that all pistoleers are patterned after Roland. Why dont they make a new class called Machine-Gunner? Give them ridiculous firing rates and incredible damage. Oh yeah, thats right..that class already exists.
I am really disappointed in this post by the dev's. Im not going to rush off and dump rifleman just yet. I will wait and see what happens with these changes they are proposing.
Iodan there are a lot of riflemen posting on the thread, which I am very happy to see.
I've made a few posts, I just hope the Dev in charge of this goes out and really trys each of the 3 elite combat professions so he can see what it's like.
Before people go off on telling us to wait and see, I'd rather make sure the Devs take into account the extra weaknesses we have NOW, rather that put the patch in and then see they forgot riflemen pay for their advantage at master.
Making us fire that slowlywithout amassive damage increasewill completelyscew up PvP, no matter how this step up combo system works. Completely. If theyincrease our damage 6x we will be 1 shottingpeople in PvP unless they make it a 1/24th damage in pvp system or something, if they don't increase our high end damage then we're just completely worthless in pvp. It's all just way to complicated from the sounds of it.. I don't get it, why mess around with everyone. I really hope they put this system on test first before going live rather than say something like "the changes are too big for us to observe on test alone" because the speed changes are going to essentially demand thatevery single combat classbe completely revamped.
Seriously besides a FEW people I think Rifleman has the lowest IQ out of all people playing the different professions.

If I could stab ya in the eye with a fork I would believe me. THEY JUST TOOK AWAY OUR HIGH DAMAGE BECAUSE WE WERE ONE SHOTTING PEOPLE 2 PATCHES AGO.
What in gods name would make you think they would up our damage 3-6x (This is what people think is gonna happen) when they just NERFED it?
Correct. They wont. And if they ever do it will be a long time after these changes go in.

For people here who have NEVER MADE IT TO MASTER. Which is the ONLY thing that made this class HALF-WAY decent, was the SPEED you shot at, and advanced strafe shot.
Well you will be shooting 1/3rd as fast now, AND your special will only get off ONCE every three seconds. We are in effect worthless in pvp and pve if these changes go through.
Sure I wasted alot of time getting to riflemen, but i am glad I kept the WHOLE marksman line it wont as difficult picking up pistol.
However it is bull**edit** that I am gonna have to go through this.

......sooooo, I've beenworking my ass off getting to Master Rifleman, grinding away on the few hours I can play per week. The work getting from Novice rifleman to 4/1/3/3 was brutal but what the hell, I see light at the end of the tunnel; the Master Rifleman position.
Why you ask?
Certification for a more powerful weapon? - HAHAHAHA!!...funny, that one. Ask Holoaboutthe "scary" T21 damage pre-nerf.....
A devastating special attack? - not really, from what I'm told by friends at Masterit's no better then the specials I've picked up so far.
Does the ridiculous x2.5 damage multiplier go down? - nope, still gettin rocked by warping Gnorts when prone, thanks.
....so why then? - well, only one single advantage =speed.
At Master Riflemen, our speed finally gets to a point where we can stand toe-to-toe with the other professions at Master level. Not just that, but those of us like myself have found a niche for themselves in a PvP squad can now use that speed to play the Heavy Gunner role which this class excels at. With the 3 sec cap proposed by "Dan" we're effectively screwed out of that position as we'll now get lit up by gunslingers 3 times faster then we can return fire.
So are we getting our damage output upped as compensation for this idiocy? Well, apparently they'll "investigate" ( translate that to "sometime next year we'll look back into it...maybe" )improving the damage output....AFTER the speed cap is in place.
But hey, Dan's fixing "cover" right?Great. This ability is utterly useless in PvP, as anyone with common sense will rush up to you and fire at 10m range; or if they're really sharp, they'll whip out a crappy CDEF knife and one-strike kill you, thanks to the 2.5 damage multiplier...
I DON'T need a handout in the PvE field; I've found my own work-around solutions to the gimping you've saddled us with, thanks.

Here is what the proposal does. It doubles the DPS of pistols. It cuts the DPS of rifles to a third. This based of the comparing of Masters which is, according to the post, how they want to measure.
If you read they state they will "look into" increasing the damage of rifles and carbines. In other words they are going to change the speeds and see what happens. Then at some later date they MAY change the damage.
The only way they can balance this is to do a DPS comparrison with similiar level weapons. Say the T21, Elite Carbine, and DX2 pistol. The DX2 will fire six times faster than the rifle. Ok, fine, but only if the T21 hits for six times the damage. Otherwise the DPS is completely scewed.
They also need to look at accuracy. The rifle and pistol have about the same mods at max. This in effect gives the rifle a much smaller effective range since the mods throw everything out the window.
Maxing the speed at 3 is also going to result in more dead rifleman. Unless we can two shot a MOB it will see us and close on us before getting of enough shots. We already know the effect of the melee penalty, warping melee MOB's and what have you.
Don't forget from the post the Carbineers are also getting BOHICA'd. The two of us are in a very similiar boat.
Unless we do around 6k damage with a hit, 3 second delays for master will KILL us. I already fire around 3 seconds and I'm on the lower rungs of rifleman....so basically I can expect no improvement in my speed as I level some more...great. Pistols will fire faster......about 6 times the rate of us.....that's incredible. Maybe if they changed the speed to around 2 seconds or 1.5 I would be cool with it...IF they upped our damage as well.....but 3 is just plain dumb.....
Let's keep this thread alive guys. These are just proposals as of now...but we MUST voice what we think of them....I hope they hear.

but the more i think about it, the more i come to realise that this is the end of the rifleman profession.
This will be the nerf of all nerfs to the rifleman.
Making pistols shoot faster than they do now is simply idiotic, and making rifles and carbines shoot slower is crazy.
Im starting to get the impression that they are wanting everyone to go pistol for the next 6 months so that they can get "one class right" and then work from their to get the others right!
This huge change in the combat situation is living proof that we are all paying to play Beta 4. There is no way that if this game had enough testing that we would be going trhough anything like this at the moment.
Am i glad im playing the game, at times yes, but i certainly would of waited another 6 montsh for a game that was far better. And before you say, leave and come back in 6 months, dont be stupid, im going to play this game as much as i can, doesnt mean i have to be a Sony Fanboy and love it regardless!!
