Thread: Rifleman Review (compared to snipers)
"I disagree with most people saying that rifles should have longer range, because in real life, if two guns use the same bullet, range is identical."
Huh? I'm not a ballistic physics expert, but the reason a rifle is called a "rifle" is because the barrel is "rifled". Sounds silly, I know. But what this means is that the inside of a rifle barrel is different than a handgun's. It has a sort of spiraling pattern in it that causes the bullet to spin, which causes the bullet to travel in a parabola towards a target, which is why rifles are considerd "zeroed" at two ranges-say 25 and 250m for example.
And beyond that, the whole idea that two different guns can fire the same round is silly.
Then again, these are supposed to be energy weapons...BUT a reasonably analog obviously has to be found because the devs saw fit to include these varieties of weapons in the game.
Okay, forgot that most modern firearms have rifled barrels, but the length of the barrel on the rifle increases the effect. The bullet leaves the barrel and travels first upward, then downward, which maximizes range.
Rifles also have buffer assemblies that reduce blowback. This, I think, should increase range as well as accuracy.
dont know if this has already been posted but...
what about specialized weapons such as a rifle with
long range, moderate damage,moderate speed
moderate rage, large damage, slow speed
or acurate, large damage slow speed
just afew off the top of my head, but this would put a new gun in each of the teirs, and it would over power the class (i think).
just another idea
Just a few things I would like too correct, like umm the posters miss-information on pistols.
You say you know someone who shot the head of a Snake at 60 METERS? Well I call bullcrap on that, there is no way someone shot a snake at 60meters with a pistol, for 1 how would he see it? I wouldnt believe your story if it was 25meters or even 20meters. Your talking about a 1-2inch target with a pistol at a distance of just over half a football field in length HAHAHAHA. Just too let you know, the test for carring a Concealed Weapon in most States is 3-15 yards, anything passed 15yards with a pistol is unlikely too hit its target (I know this because I have a TexasCHL). I wont even get into the running and shooting with a pistol LOL. And yes someone running and shooting with a Rifle is still accurate enough too kill, in boot camp on the combat training courses you learn too fire from the hip in most branches.
Another thing too think about that is lacking in this game is, what weapon actually has the fastest rate of fire? Rifle or Pistol?
Which Weapons has more Rounds? Rifle or Pistol?
Which is the standard for Military Forces? Rifle or Pistol?
Which has the Greatest Accuracy and Range? Rifle or Pistol?
Of course this is Real Life and we are talking about a game where we are shooting energy bolts at each other. Only in a Fantasy world could they turn Reality upside down and backwards and then claim too have a combat system as close too RL as possible.

What are we talking about here, hitting a man sized target or calling an eyeball shot? An eyeball shot further than 15m, not likely (at least not on purpose). To hit a human sized target, absolutely. The Army (and I'm sure the Marines as well) start some of their pistol ranges as far out as 60 yards. If you couldn't hit anything beyond 15m then there would be a lot of unqualified troops running around.

Need more information, I could think of several types of pistols that have a faster rate of then and hold more rounds than some types of rifles.
So the Texas concealed weapon permit qualification is only at 15m. Kind of disappointed, though everyone in Texas could shoot real good like..........................y'all.
