I think that a master rifleman would have the knowledge to know that what may seem like a great change to help ailing novices, could in fact severely hinder the master or lead to "nerfs" of the master.

I think that my understanding of the Combat Engine provides this insight. Once I saw how the numbers stacked up for Master Riflemen vs. Masters of other professions, I understood exactly where the Master Riflemen were coming from when they said "Removal of the 2.5x Damage Penalty will result in us being nerfed silly!" We are extremely powerful at the Master level. Now that I have this insight, I would not argue in favor of removing the 2.5x damage penalty entirely, and would instead argue in favor of fixing the MOB warp bug and removing the 2.5x damage penalty from the Spraystick. This would resolve the problem in a way that would benefit most Novices, but wouldn't put the Masters at risk of being thwacked with the Nerf Bat.

This is in no way a "diss" against VB, I enjoy reading his posts and he makes very valid points.

I don't take it as a "diss" at all. Your sentiments are reasonable and understandable, and I would have been surprised if someone hadn't started the "Well, I don't think Volsted is a Master Rifleman" conversation. But here are a couple of things to consider:

Firstly, the person you want as a correspondent is (in addition to the things mentioned above by others -- detail oriented, fair, willing to listen, etc) someone who can communicate well via the written medium. Having great ideas and having an intimate understanding of the Rifleman profession isn't worth a hill of beans if you can't communicate your ideas and your understanding in a clear, understandable, and persuasive way. And not to diss Aldeon, but I have long felt that this was the one area where we Riflemen came up short in comparison to the Correspondents for other professions.

Go to the Bounty Hunter forum and look at some of the posts by Wepps. Go to the Pistoleer forum and look at some of the posts by Jaegen88. Go to the Ranger forum and look at some of the posts by NRaas. Go to the Fencer forum and look at some of the posts from Raphayl. Whatever you may think about the points they're trying to make (and I know some of you think that Jaegen88 is the anti-Christ), these are Correspondents who can argue persuasively and who can present their ideas in a clear, readable, understandable form. Aldeon had a lot of heart, and had a good understanding of the class, but I don't think he was as effective in communcating his ideas and his arguments as some of these other Correspondents.

Casting all modesty aside for the moment, I can say without reservation that I am an excellent communicator when it comes to the written medium. It's a large part of what I do for a living in the real world. And I've gotten awards for what I do for a living in the real world. I've spoken at a number of conferences for my industry, and I am considered by many of my industry peers to be a leader in my particular specialized field. And that rep comes mostly from my ability to communicate, especially via the written medium.

Secondly, I've got a lot of experience digging around in the Combat Mechanics of MMORPGs. If there are any people here who played Warriors in EQ, and who hung out on Caster's Realm or Stratics, you may have heard of a Gnome Warriorette named Ruatha. Ruatha was my EQ character, and I did a lot of Combat Engine analysis while I was playing EQ. Here are a few examples:

One of the most important posts you have never seen -- This is a repost of my original "EQ Math Geekery" post from Caster's Realm. Someone else took it off of Caster's Realm and reposted it on the Steel Warriors board. They did it two and a half years after I posted it originally. The original post is currently unavailable because Caster's Realm seems to have gone and fuxx0red itself, but while the post was up, it got regularly bumped once every month or two.
How to Calculate your Maximum Damage -- This is a website from someone who took a post I'd originally made to the Shaman forums on EQForge and added some other stuff to it. It's hard to figure out where my stuff ends and the other guy's stuff begins, because he's basically plopped down a lot of his own comments right in the middle of my post. But a huge chunk of the stuff on that site is my analysis.
Let the Geeking Begin! -- More analysis
Incidental Geekery -- More analysis

So, while I may not be a Master Rifleman, I am a Master MMORPG Combat Engine Analyzer.

(Some people like to fish. I like to poke MMORPG combat engines with the +3 Sharp Stick of Poking and Annoyance. We all have our hobbies. )

Finally, none of this is meant to say "I'm better than anybody else who's angling for the Correspondent job." This is just my way of saying "No, I'm not a Master Rifleman. But I can probably do a pretty good job regardless."

It's prettyevident that you make well-thought out, clear, and well-written posts. As much as I liked Aldeon, I think you are correct. Good luck to you.

Actually with the most recent patch, the 2.5x dmg is now more than ever the Riflemans biggest problem. Now that melee attacks work from 15m, a Riflemans combat Range just got shortened. Now you have too run much sooner, and if a mob warps on you, well its over.

But its not like it matters, if anyone is working on unlocking the FS Slot, you have too destroy your character, and play classes you dont like and cant stand.

I do feel sorry for all the people who are going too have too lvl up a Rifleman now, god thats going too suck. Does it make anyone crack a smile when you hear an xpistoleer complaining about how crappy the rifle is and how hard it is too lvl?

VolstedGridban hat my Vote too.

I'm new, but i'm a rifleman !
This correspondent thing has to be finished as soon as possible, because we need results as soon as possible (and an ending to all these whinings). In my 2 weeks in this forum i read enough posts of VG that helped me to understand so much of rifleman profession. The others that are attemted to get correspondent also did, but we just can get one as representative, and as far my feelings say, Selfyn, VG and all the others are willing and able to work together for our profession
So it's about teamwork, it's about supporting roles ... hugh, who should do this better then us riflemen (humm, ok, medics etc.. but anyway...)

Make it, man

Honestly, being a rifleman myself (2001), Being able to damage an un healable bar is what makes us so great. But think about it, once you see a master you can drop him easily. After he prolly dropped and DBD maybe 3-4 targets if hes smart. Even still, its a major advantage us "glass cannons" have in major PVP.

Most Master Riflemen I've met don't use the mind specials much. They use strafeshot2 becuase it is a much better shot. Better damage less mind cost. Saying we are special because of the unhealing bar was a dev comment that is just not true.

Ya, I was kinda hurt when i saw a BH drain my mind in 3 seconds while taking almost no costs to his mind. ::sob sob sob:: i thought we were the only ones that could whack at the mind bar, that was the whole reason for me bein one. but anyway, ya i just got flurryshot1 a lil bit ago and its nice. although it doesnt attack a specific bar :/. i guess ill just have to see what the devs do with all the clases as time goes on...

Peace, love, and krispy cream dounuts....

Combat Medics do much more damage to mind pools with their poisons and disease than riflemen do with out specials and they do it with less mind cost per use. Especially the AOE attacks.

Riflemen are NOT the mind killers..unless you mean our own
