Thread: What is the point of being a Rifleman?

How can you bleed 25 players (twice) without having master rifle in a 'few seconds'? Even at master + master that takes 50 seconds, minimum, assuming perfect coordination, no misses, and no lag (by contrast, you can strafe2 5 times in 5 seconds and take them all out, directly, if they're really that packed). Riflemen are quite good at master, but I think Soze is rather overstating the issue, especially for pre-master riflemen - the experience of fighting in a huge battle with lots of other players in front of you to take fire while you pick a few shots is quite different from small, organized group engagements, especially if they're reasonably good at PvP.

Hrm. We don't actually get 1 second speed on strafe 2. Heh. Not even close =P

The problem so far is that there are 2 very different arguments being made, and both are essentially right.

In 1 on 1 combat, riflemen are at a very big disadvantage. Pending luck, we are generally weaker in single combat than most of the other combat classes, and all of the ranged ones.

In group and larger battles, we are very good. We can take out a number of enemies and if they do not single us out early can turn the battle.

In PvE, we are as good as any other class, and with the right combination of other skills are extreamly good.

So to answer the original question: If you want to be a 1v1 duelest, or want to be the meanest toon on the block, rifleman is not for you. If you want to work around the outskirts of a battle, and be a constant pain to the enemy, but not get the glory of a BH, then welcome aboard. Rifleman is a very different playstyle than the other combat professions.

My problem is it takes forever to learn rifle so you never get master. Other than that, if you can stay out of range in a 1 on 1 duel, the mind bleeding will kill anyone. I can't use any of the good skills yet but even I can tell how good mind damage is.

Are you saying that if you have +95 weapon speed mod, you can shoot faster than 1s?

No, the 1s hard cap does exist. However, a master rifleman with +90 speed and a decent gun typically cannot use special moves at the cap (lasers, T21 speeds are typically over 5s, and the style delay multipliers are 2x or so). When using autofire, the master marksman/rifleman has no real advantage since both are probably capping (unless you've got a 10s delay gun) but when using special moves, the difference is quite dramatic.

Uh... ok. Here's the REAL story.

Cons: You do OK as a novice rifleman if you stick to bleed-and-run tactics and dizzy/supression combos with a spraystick. In stand up fights and group situations, you're not that valuable and definitely overmatched against BHs.

Pros: When you hit master, you become probably the most powerful profession in the game.

Well said. Usually the people screaming 'nerf,' and 'we're underpowered,' etc., in any class, are very low-level Novice, or they have no clue what they're doing.

Then there's a super-easy way to complain about stuff without thinking first called an 'forum.'

High level riflemen have at least as much dps as a high level bounty hunter using eye shot. In fact, from my experience fighting riflemen, the onlypeople without riflemanthat even have a chance against them one vs one are those that have ch, or bounty hunter.

Who cares if a pistol shoots fast when you can just come out from behind a wall, shoot once, dodge back behind the wall and then come out again to kill them with damage they can not heal. oh and I was wearing a composite helm (30%) and had 800 mind, if someone has lower mind, or is not wearing armor (most people don't), then don't even bother trying to dodge behind stuff because you only need one shot.

Noules, I'm not doubting you but I have always heard that there is a hard cap at 1s weapon speed...
