SMC Guardians are only mob to drop select crystals. Easy to do 80k ham weakest to energy medium AR.
SMC Councilwoman are about 100k ham less then NS Elders and same resistances.
I can easily rifle tank a councilwoman whilst elders with AP2 weapons I cannot. That extra 100k HAM really makes the elder a lot tougher without a tank, but they drop the SAME exact loot(except layers/shards/lances). I prefer SMC especially dragoons because of their complete vulnerability to acid and similar resists to energy as NS.

Some SMC are vunlnerable to heat... /drool 13k damage with a Flamethrower and /FlameSingle2.

That faction is used in the quests for the SMCs and NSs. Although it seems to be a little broken since they will give you the missions with negative faction.
NS are just plain hunted more because they drop the pikeman stuff, which can fetch a great price. SO you see more loot coming off of the NS than the SMC. In actuality the drops are about the same in frequency and quality, its just different stuff, as has been stated already in this thread.
A week or 2 ago my guild went out and performed an cleansing on SMCs. After 5 council women and coutless others we walked away with 1 nice crystal, and about 100 heavy leathers. Apparently there was an SMC Tailor convention going on at the time.

A SMC member attacked me as well, despite my +5000 faction. I did nothing to provoke her, in fact, I was killing NightSisters in front of her, so if anything, I would have expected help 
However, I now have negative SMC faction, because after the betrayal of one, I felt the rest needed to pay.

In my quest to find the elusive bull rancor baby, I run into far more SMC than NS. I've seen many that have 100% energy resistance.
