Thread: Night Sisters vs Singing Mountain Clan
DarthUrizen wrote:Its very simple... Nightsisters have the "fame" of dropping better items, including the NS bicep, witch still or no longer drops, is always a catalizer for one to continue the hunt, seeing as SMC's cannot drop them (it would be nice if they dropped they're own costume bicep, or something similar though)Point is.., people have always heard about the great loots one can find in nightsisters, premium crystals, exceptional weapons, attachtments..., so.., if they know for certain that these indeed may drop good items.., they aren't bothered with killing many other unkown types of npc's.I myself have killed a couple of SMC's and, as most.., never found anything special...About the resistences..., yes.. a rifleman can take ANY SMC alone with no problems... mostely all SMC's have tremendously low resistence to energy. As for nightsisters..., rifleman's only cannot slay one... a Nightsister Spell Weaver... witch has 100% resistence to all except to kinetic and blast..., on the other hand we are those who can best slay elders and Axkva... provided someone will thank them of course... So I recon.., its a decent balance...; still.. SMC's should indeed drop better loot, and quite honestly.., be a little harder for riflemans to slay...
ya i know quoting long posts sucks but oh well =P
spell weavers arent the only ones, a rifleman cant touch a stalker or protector either

Is it possible to get enough faction points with one so that they do not attack you?
yes! I know for sure if you get +5000 SMC faction they will now not only attack you, but they will aid you if you get in a fight when they are within 30 - 40m range. I was actually surprised when a SMC Archwitch came to help me fight a NS initiate. I SMC Rancor came to help too.....the weird thing is that they did not attack the NS until I did. I do remember at one time it didn't matter how much positive faction you had with either clan, they both would attack you.....the devs seem to have fixed that though.
As for looting, I only stick to killing the NS Elders for lootand only kill any other NS if they get in my way of killing the elder. I am a TKM also, so that makes up for not being able to attack spellweavers, stalkers and protectors....their kinetic resist are so low, they are a easy fight for TKM.....however, I always put 2 mind bleeds on them first. Anyway, two NS POI's are better than random spawns because they have increased the spawn rate of the Force labor camp (about 5 min or so) so you kill more in less time and gives you a better chance of getting good loot. The stronghold doesn't spawn as fast as the Force Labor camp, but the rate of loot drops seem higher there. The elder spawns about every 30 minutes and if your dead center of the stronghold you can /conceal shot just about everything on the right side where the elder spawns.
The elder doesn't always drop stuff but when she does, it's pretty good.I killed her a while ago and I got a premium crystal and8 armor shards in one kill. Then the very next time I killed the elder, she dropped a LVA with +25 Dodge (useless I know), 16 def verse KD, 11 terrain negotiation and it has a poison DOT on it and I think the damage is a little lower than average....nevertheless, it's a nice weapon for pikes...I just may sell it...in the meantime though I use it for terrain negotiation on dath because I have no scout
....and for those that don't know or are curious, I tested running up a hill with it and without it and I can tell the difference...without it my toon walks slowly up the hill....with it he doesn't run up the hill, but he does move faster up the hill than normal....and I have no scout at all and no pike or polearm brawler skills...so i'm not certified to use the LVA, but I still get the benefits of the mods on it...don't know about the DOT though.
Anyway, I then killed the elder again and got nothing.....next time after that I got a +10 Melee def AA (had some other mods on it but not worth mentioning).....the time after that I got another premium crystal.....then 3 straight times after that I got absolutely nothing......and my last time (2 days ago) I got some bio effect controllers and something else that i destroyed.....inbetween, I got plenty of color crystals,a couple of fair - good power crystals, various crap loot and various decent loot from the lower level NS (mostly initiates, rangers, sentinels and sentry's)
so you see, the loot is there, but you won't get it by very often by hunting random spawns....the static spawns is where the good stuff is at.....lately with all the jedi out grinding up jedi xp, the NS poi's are fairly empty....only once in a while will a whole guild come through with their group....
it's more about where you hunt and what time you hunt also....different times are better than others.....you just gotta be patient and get out there and get a good feel for when to hunt certain spots....you won't always get loot...but if you stick with it for a buff session, your sure to never come back empty handed or without at least 1 or 2 good drops.
I don't hunt SMC's though, they are my buddies....I run missions for them instead....besides they are the good witches of the 3....hehe

It seems that SMC drop a lot more power crystals than NS.
have you got any SEAs latley from NS or SMC? I have killed tons of them but have not got a single SEA from them (except for weapons with +skill)
yes I have gotten SEA's from them within the last week. They are few and far inbetween kills, but they still drop. I never hunt SMC's but In fighting NS, I still get a fair amount of crystal drops (most of them are good quality, only got 1 fair one before). it's enough that I don't start killing SMC's for crystals. I've tried the spider clan also....but with my dxr broken (need to craft a new one) and being a TKM, it's difficult to get through the cave as a rifleman becuase you can't damage every mob in there with oneor two types of weapons and other weapons just aren't powerful enough. In my opinion, the spider clan are the best balanced mob in the game when it comes to resist. They are not like SMC's (who have the lowest resist of the 3) or Nightsisters (who have 2 - 3 low resist depending on the level of the npc), spider clan has at least one type ofnpc that just about every profession in the game either can't damage or will have a very hard time damaging. Where one has low resist in one area, the very next npc in the cave will have high resist to that and maybe more and you "HAVE" to switch to a different profession. Unlike the NS POI's where a swordsman can clear the whole cave without ever switching professions....you can't do that in the spiderclan cave. I mean, it can be solo'd, but only with the right templete....and that template is one of the lessor like templates in the game, so most people don't bother with the cave much solo and thus you don't hear about a lot of loot drops from them....I'm trying to get back to fighting them more myself to see what they drop and hopefully I can catch the elder sometimes....I beleive she only spawns either once a day or once every few hours....she's not like NS elders though.

Killing the spider clan NPC and cavern spiders will give you positive SMC faction and decent xp payout. All three major faction NPC on Dathomir seem to be copies of each other with different names and clothing styles for each. Nightsisters seem to be the only ones who have extremely high energy resists where SMC don't. Elders (Councilwomen for SMC) are all about the same with HAM around 320k, heavy armor, multiple 100% resists (cold, stun, kinetic) with weakness to Blast and Energy though if I recall correctly the Spider Elder has 100% resist to Energy but like 40% resist to Acid. All 3 major faction NPC perform force moves and their attacks are listed as lightsaber attacks in the combat log. Players can drag the Elders to NPC of the opposite faction and if the player(s) have positive faction with the opposing side, the enemy faction NPC will attack the NPC you're attacking. Just keep in mind an Elder class NPC with a stun baton or power hammer in her hand is almost always instant death.

That spider clan seems interesting. I have never killed any of them. Might go for them when I got my next build ready and can deal with all restist types.
Anyone got a listing of resists/HAM on the Spider clan?
If that makes any sense... works for me.
