Thread: Why a T21 over a Laser when the Laser is better damage?

step 1: take min dmg + max dmg and divide by 2.
that's the BASE dmg, speed and AP aside.
sure, you're using a laser (and it sounds like it's above average). if a BASE laser hits for 40-400, and a BASE T21 hits for 200-350...
you're at a BASE damage (ie, the average you can EXPECT over time... good and bad damage rolls tend to even out eventually) for the laser is 220, and for the T21 is 275.
that's a BASE difference of 55 damage... MULTIPLIED by the special you use (assume x3, unless you have strafe2, at x5). that's +165 BASE (or +275 for master rifle).
if you're speedcapped, this is all you need to consider.
if you're LEVELLING, the APx vs target AR+resists AND the relative speed come into play.
run a DPS calculation, if you're so inclined, or remember... for every time the laser hits for max damage, it ALSO hits for the absolute worst damage it can.
balance the high/low of the laser with the consistent damage of the T21, consider your targets, and shoot.

well i think its a matter of play styles for me.
if i am buffed and dont have to worry about my hams, then a T-21 is handsdown the winner of these 2 rifles. if i am unbuffed and do have to worry about the hams, then i pick the laser over the T-21.
most weaponsmiths do not worry about ham costs anymore, so they max out damage and range mods which leaves these weapons with high high ham costs to deal with. a typical t-21 on eclipse ranges around 70-70-100 on hams now where it used to be 35-35-65. this is a big difference when you are hunting unbuffed and your health and action are at 600 or less.
the damage between the 2 for most of the mobs in the game is comparable so for unbuffed hunting the laser just wins. less healing for me to do.
buffed hunting, t-21 is the damage dealer extreme. perfect for krayts, and all other mobs imo.
