Thread: Those of you with DLT20A's...
If I'm online, feel free to give me a tell and we can meet up. Always glad to help out a fellow rifleman.
Just for the sake of argument, I'll throw in my 2 cents about how the DLT20a is more useful then the Laser Rifle when soloing. Keep in mind that this is from the PoV of a 2 0 2 1 Rifleman, so I don't fire my Laser Rifle every second (why would you grind for rifle exp when you're a master anyway?).
Laser Rifle burns more Mind (quite a bit more, for that matter) and fires slower. Also, the damage isn't reliable.
DLT20a burns less Mind, fires faster, has much more reliable damage, but doesn't hit very hard.
Now, the key to mass-accumulating rifle exp witha DLT20a is to utilize the cheap, fast shots it has to kite multiple enemies at once. With my DLT20aand a couple of decent sized greater whomp rat lairs (any other non-bring-a-friend monsters will work too) I can kite the entire lair(s) for a decent amount of exp (1,800 rifle exp * how many rats the camp had). With my Laser Rifle I can kite multiple whomp rats, but it's much slower (unreliable damage/HAM costs) and much more risky.
Granted, a decent E11 or Jawa Ion would also work. Also, if you have a nice T21 then you can useit to spank a big ole' bleed or two on your baddies (from prone, so they don't aggro immediatly) and follow up with a Warning Shot from your DLT20a.
hello all
I am new to the rifle , but let me tell you i got a supped up DLT20a i had it sliced and damage is 138-258 with this rifle it has taken me a little less than 2 hours of grinding to make top rung of the rifle ladder in marksman , i was extremely impressed with it i still use it , i also have a sliced laser rifle that has 55-524 damage but do not use it as much ham costs for me are really high for this weapon so i stick with DLT20a .
I am also a pistoleer so i get a grin when i see a one shot kill for 2300 points , as opposed to the 550 points a shot.
hopefully i will be a force to reckon with when i master them both .
I still fail to see ANY reason to switch from a good laser rifle to a good dlt20.
Sure you burn your HAM less fast, but your damage decreases by about the same amount, so you end up using about the same HAM but taking twice the time to kill your target.
Lets look at number on thes best weapons I found on Starsider, pre slice:
dlt20 116-185 mind cost 25 AP0
laser rifle 29-378 mind cost 58 AP2
Even on an AR0 enemy, where the laser rifle AP advantage is the smallest compared to a dlt20, the dlt20 will do 150dmg avg for 25 base mind cost ((116+185)/2=150)
Using the laser rifle and after the 56% bonus AP to AR0, your avg damage will be 318 for a mind cost of 58 base. ((29+378)/2*1.25*1.25=318)
So basically using that laser rifles over that dlt20, you will indeed use 232% of the mind, but you will do 212% of the damage. The advantage of the dlt20 against the laser rifle over AR0 is very very slight and the laser rifle gets infinitelybetter against AR1. Additionally, using the laser rifleyou willkill your target a little over twice faster than using the dlt20 so they have half the time to inflict damage on you.
Personally, as a master rifleman, I prefer to hit my target for 318dmg every second for a cost of 58 mind than to artificially lower the mind drain by damaging it for 150dmg every second with a HAM cost of 25. I seriously have yet to see a situation that would really warrant me using a dlt20.
However, I am thinking about the jawa ion because of its stun type dmg...

The E11 you have is not very good. You're comparing afully experimented DLT 20 made by a master smith with an E11 that seems like an experiment gone bad.
I only have tech 4 of the weaponsmith tree and Ican make a 210 damage E11 (after slicing).Master weaponsmiths canpush this to 250+.
Your talking apples and oranges here. Before you can compare the two guns you first need to obatin an E11 which has been experimented to the degree that your DLT20 has. Your agument is not valid because you are using a gimped E11 and a top-notch DLT20.
You're telling *ME* the E11 is bad? I know it is, but I made a mistake with its stats, that is pre-slice (the name reflectedthe original numbers, I pulled from the wrong source). It was sliced for a whoping 12% (damage). Through some math I have found that the dlt also went through a small slice, around 14%.
Thing about the E11 is that it came from one of the more renowned weaponsmiths on the server, even if it was a while ago, so I trusted that is as good as that master weaponsmith could get.
It's not apples and oranges when you are comparing the bestavailable of oneweapon with the best of another. I will look to see if better E11s have shown up though, but my point about the dlt20a was about it's reliability. I *still* use it when a laser rifle bleed goes bad because I can count on an acceptable number. The E11, I haven't been sold on and my harvesters are pulling too many credits out of my pocket for me to worry about getting a series of E11s and trying to get the perfect slice.
I wasn't intending to bad mouth the E11 rifle, as I can tell it has some potential, I was talking about my personal arsenal, and how *I* use weapons. If you will note, I did say that if I were to find an E11 rifle worth its salt, it would be my primary weapon. I might even chuck the laser to the side if it's good enough.
Oh man, you need to switch out that T21 for a Jawa ion or an E11. On WH at least most decent Jawa Ions, E11's, and DLT20a's are far better than post-patch T21's. Case in note, Jawa Ion rifle with 5.0 speed, 150-250 stun damage. E11 - 120-240ish, 5.0 speed, AP2. Above stated DLT20a's with 200 dmg and 4-5 spd. vs a T21 with 100-300ish dmg, 7.9 - 9.9 spd, and 70+ mind cost. (Jawa ions and E11's have 40-50 mind cost).

Out of interest what races are you guys with the mind pool problems?
I'm still a fairly lowbie Rifleman mainly using a post-nerf T21, Laser, SG82 and I mainly PvE.
I've given up on HS3 because as far as I can tell it does the same damage as HS2, misses twice as often and eats 3x the mind pool. I'll pass kthx!
I carry a wide asortment of rifles with me in the field.
T21: sliced for damage to max 381
T21: sliced for HAM cost
Jawa Ion Rifle: sliced for speed
Spraystick (advanced): sliced for damage
SG82: sliced for damage
Tusken Rifle: sliced for damage
DLT20a rifle, sliced for damage
I'm a Squad Leader (four boxes to Master), Creature Handler (two boxes to master) and Master Sniper (currently 4/1/1/3 in rifleman but will sacrifice down to 4/0/0/2 in another couple days for the points to master other professions).
90% of the time, i'm using one of my two T21s. 75% of that time, its the one sliced for damage. I routinely hit 1500-1700 damage per Headshot3 when the weapon is equipted with a powerup, and at my current level i'm firing fast enough to kill about anything in the game before it kills me and my pets. The big stuff gets the usual Mindbleed2 / Mindbleed1 stack.
My usual squad and I were on Dathomir the other day, and I was able to drop six total rancor myself (two ancient bull, one mutated, one regular and two gnarly) with this tactic. The rancors were in a frenzy and attacking everything that moved, including each other. I would drop back to maximum range outside the chaos, drop two mindbleeds and a headshot3, then send in the pets to distract them. Then nothing but a long queue of headshot3. FYI you get almost 300 Dathomirian leather hide from an ancient bull rancor
That's not to say I don't use the other weapons. When i'm fighting in a squad, I use "examine" before or immediately after combat and look for weaknesses. Or at the higher levels, just what's resisted the least. Its nice to have a combination of weapons to deal with all sorts of creatures - most of the time its T21 for damage, with spraystick as backup for speed. When i'm hunting little stuff (like when I'm back on my home planet of Corellia) I tend to use the SG82 or the DLT20a just to save wear-and-tear on the T21. But its nice to be able to spot a high-end creature who is 90% resistant to everything but stun and then pull out the Ion Rifle. Or finding something vulnerable to cold and pulling out the SG82.
But the whole HAM cost thing is overhyped in my opinion. I am human, and have maxed my mind and focus and willpower. HAM costs really aren't much of an issue when fighting without armor. As a sniper, most of the time i'm not supposed to be taking any fire - the rest of my squad or if solo my pets are out there to engage the enemy head on, while i'm 64m away shooting them in the head. I have a set of armor (mixed mabari/composite, going for full composite some day) that I use in certain situations (like creature taming, or when going one-on-one against a single tough target, or in PvP). But with a T21 and my stats, a battle is going to be long over before I run out of mind, even with the T21 - its either going to be me dead because that TK artist has closed the gap and kicked me in the face... or its mine thanks to a bleed plus a couple headshot 3...
I buy crates of 10 powerups, min damage/max damage/reduced mind. at the high end you can find ones that are 20%-30% improvement. That makes a huge difference in everything. Upping the min damage makes the T21 (or laser or anything with significant variance in damage) more consistent. upping max damage lets those 1700+ hits come through. And decreasing mind helps prevent the riflemans' curse (running out of mind).
I power up all my weapons, all the time. Get a good (greater than 90% weapon repair kit made with the optional items) and you won't have issues repairing your weapons. I do my repairs at a weapon crafting station in town or in my house, not sure if that helps but i'm superstitious that it does. Haven't destroyed a weapon in over 20 repairs. I always try to repair right above 50% remaining durability - sometimes will repair if its only 75% remaining, but won't let it fall below 50% unless i'm careless.
Part of the "take care of your rifle, it will take care of you" school of thought....
