Love some of these ideas. How about a Ranged Combat Support Droid (RCSD) that has different options, maybe available by radial or /pet commands. At first I was thinking maybe these could all be done at the same time but perhaps that could be too powerful.
A Gunner/Sniper function to utilize a built in gun rest.(already suggested) andaiming enhancement.The droid would interface with the weapon, perhaps increasing a stat or two like a powerup would... (max dmg, min dmg, ham cost,speed) and also providing superior targetting to the user, increasing overall accuracy.
Defensive protection function that might boost ranged defense, or a bonus to cover or block. Using the droids defensive abilities in addition to your own counter-sniping abilities should produce some fairly good protection against incoming ranged fire.
And of course some sort ofrepair enhancement function as has been suggested.
Overall, I think using a combat droid to help support your class should give you a bit more of an advantage..(maybe nothing major, but you never know.. that small bit of extra accuracy or defense might just be enough to give you the win.
P.S. Obviously this is geared more towards us rifle users, but I'm sure the other ranged combat classes could have similar functions of droids specifically tailored to their profession that would help them as well.

How about an LE series droid gunner crew. Sort of a portable fire team that would allow better accuracy and increased fire rante of the weapon.
Give us the E-Web Heavy Machine Gunner option.

As much as I'd like having a droid that increased the chance to repair weapons, the fact is that many weaponsmiths would be put out of business if something like this was implemented. Other combat professions would want it too (understandably so) and the need to buy new weapons would fall drastically. I usually repair my weapons successfully about 75% of the time with 99% tools, which is reasonable imo.
I like the idea of some kind of bracing system to improve accuracy,andpossibly speed as well for the lower levels of rifleman when speed is such a huge issue. This would portray the idea of the heavy support machine gunner andbeing able to brace yourself on something to reduce recoil (faster firing speed) and improve accuracy would make more sense realistically speaking.

I just wanted a droid to stash my sliced rifles in. The crackdown is free easyfaction, but getting stopped for carrying a sliced rifle when I want to shop sucks. Maybe they could do a cross proffession droid that helps with scans, say it lowers it a little bit and it stacks with a smuggler's abilities maybe make it so one of the components has to be made by a smuggler. They want more content to sure it ain't great but now they can do more than make muon/pixie and slice stuff. It should have a downside though like it can only hide 1-3 depending on size and limit it to say 1 per charecter. I already only use my droids for that 90% of the timeanyway, the other 10% is for buffing/healing/crafting.

Or a bounty hunter droid and rifleman are able to use the BH terminals!

How about stun-droids. Basically like the little floating sphere that zapped Luke in ANH. You send it out on a target and it does minor stun damage (say, 10 every second?) but it also distracts the opponent, putting them under an appropriate effect or basically reducing their accuracy and defense by some until the droid is destroyed. The idea behind this is to distract them from us while we start shooting.

How about a targeting droid that moves out to say 120M and probes everything in that quadrant making it possible to target and hit anything out at that range. Something like a radar pickett ship in principal. How would you like something like that?

I have to say no to the rate of fire droid.
Honestly I shoot so fast now even with my heavy T21 that it makes conceal shooting a pain when I am not buffed.

A projectile/energy weapon support feeder that you could load up with power ups that would feed new power ups to your weapon as needed, maybe directly from crates.
I believe there would be no need for this, master rifle is already 1 sec between specials, it would be impossible to go any faster. And the fact to just help the newbs out would be to easy for lvling.
