Thread: Top 5 list of the week
First post...aspiring rifleman, still a long way off, but working on it
A few thoughts on the weapon classes:
- Carbineers should be masters of taking on multiple mobs with fire suppression and area attacks.
-Pistoleers should be fast firing close range fighters almost as good with melee defence as actual melees.
-Riflemen should be masters of stealth and sniping, excellent at taking on single but powerful mobs.
With that in mind these are my thoughts on how a rifleman should play:
-Extend our range. Lets face it, this is a game. And in games, mobs run towards their attacker instead of cowering in fear when faced by a soldier with a gun. The increased distance gives us a lil more time to fire before getting whacked by that melee damage multiplier.
-Expand on takecoverso that it gives concealment and cover bonus and the added effect similar to that of feigndeath. However, make it so that it only works ifyou arebeyond a certain range of all mobs aggroed on you.
-Turn concealshot a pre-attack as others have suggested but amplify the HAM cost of the special followed after it to balance it out.
-Make takecoverremove you as a player PC's current target and make you untargettable using the target scroll button. This will also remove you from the player's radar. The only way to target you would be to actually click your avatar on the screen. That means they have to physically find you first. Elevating your postureor usingany attack that isnt preceeded by a concealshot will remove your stealth bonus.
This'll turn us into stealthy, powerful, long range fighters, but makes our specials and abilities almost completely useless at close range. The PvP and PvE riflemen will therefore have to act smart and sneaky, the way snipers should be.
I couldn't disagree more with you on this.
Add precision heart Shot or precision knee shot to the master rifleman line. To give us the ability to hit all pools. In order to assist better, since the game is now an assist game, and it requires us all doing the same damage.
I do almost as much damage to the mind pool by myself, as the rest of the entire group I've ever been in. I think our ability to attack mind pool effectively is what sets us apart. I certainly wouldn't want to see pistoleers and carbineers getting the ability to attack mind pool. When I've been in groups with more than one GOOD rifleman, we hammer the mind pool to dust before the entire rest of the group gets even halfway though the Health pool. I've had more people comment on how I actually know how to play a rifleman because I'm attacking Mind Pool than I've ever had people whine because I didn't attack health pool with them. Combine this with my Ranger skills, and I've become pretty popular when groups are forming on Dathomir, Yavin 4, etc. I think if we really want this class to shine (It already does in my opinion) we should stop coveting the skill of others and really cherish what we have. We have a class that works better than most of the others out there (look at commandos, or droid engineers for cripes sake). We should concentrate on the good things we have, and taking the stuff that isn't up to par, and providing constructive solutions for the problems. Adding attacks to action and health isn't the answer. Rifleman fill a special niche, and it's my hope that we will continue to.
I know it rule for PvP since its not healable but with all the whinning about mind not healable, SOE will either give something to doctor about it except themself or something like that.
But personaly id prefer to hit health pool, as all weapon should, so that way i can get a cheaper solution to finish a mob without using a special, and also i group alot with a friend who use pistol and when fighting, its like if we were both soloing the mob since we both hit different pool and take way longer to kill, so i have to pull out a pistol or spraystick and do so-so damage.

Your top five are great issues to deal with right now.
My favorite of them is the Ghuille Suit. Here's why: In real life I spent three years as a sniper in the Army. I have a total of twelves years in everything from Dragon Anti-Tank weapon (omg those stink compared to the TOW and Javelin) to Platton Seargent. My Favorite times were as the sniper. That's why I chose to be a rifleman. IRL you go to sniper school, while there you make your Ghuille ( or first one I should say). These are hand grafted and often climate specific. You could say it's the snipers version of making a lightsaber ( weak i know). When I was at sniper school the Instructors, drilled into our heads how important our Ghuilles were and were very critical of them if we did it wrong. I would love to see SWG putthem in as a craftable Rifleman only wearing aticle of clothing. Increase our stalking ability while wearing one as well as making us look real cool

I honestly do not like the Ghillie suit idea. I think that the developer's time could be spent better doing something else first such as the Conceal shot being made into a pre-attack that would mask the next attack (IE: Concealshot, Headshot3 (hidden)) I think that this would make us more into Snipers per say. This would allow us to be off of the visual scope of the creature we are attacking, but also attack the mind pool directly, instead of a random pool shot.
The ghillie suit idea sounds like it would be better implemented in PvP. I personally dont do ANY PvP. I am not in this game to go around shooting other people down, as I hate having it done to myself. I am in the game to hunt big creatures, and group with other people exploring, hunting, and traveling together.
Another thing I would like to have implemented before something like a ghillie suit is to make the Rifleman class better suited to grouping with other professions. As of now, no one likes to group with me because when i use my specials, IE Headshot, Mindshot, etc... it attacks the mind pool while the rest of the people in the group are attacking Health directly. If there were some attacks included into the rifle tree that would enable us to do serious damage to the Health pool, I would be very happy, and would finally be able to group with people the right way.
Honestly, I think that the ghillie suit COULD be a good idea, but as of now, I think that alot of its popularity is coming from people who are saying "Wow! Just like an Army Sniper in Real-Life!" That therein is one of the biggest problems. The "coolness factor". I am not speaking for everyone, but just from experience in watching R. Lee Ermie on the History channel with his show Mail Call, I can say that the show that featured Snipers and the way they make the ghillie suits was fairly cool. I know Maximus_Bane HAD been a sniper in real life, but i dont think that the ghillie suit idea is really being though through in its entirety. There are much better things that deserve immediate attention. This idea is just something that all of you want put into the Rifleman Tree just to put us ahead of the pack. This thinking is incorrect.
Another thing I have to say about this is what is to keep another profession from taking one skill tree in Rifleman just so they can get the ghillie suit? Once that happens, there are going to be TONS of invisible bush-looking people running around on every planet in the solar system. The skill will be capitalized upon by other professions, and before long someone else in the Rifleman forums is going to be yelling "NERF!"
How do you plan on making this a Rifleman only skill? Put it at Master Level? F that. That is NOT an improvement to the Rifleman tree. I want to have some improvements lower on the tree for other Rifleman to get earlier on that make us a bigger contender with other classes.
Above all, I want you to re-evaluate your position on this ALDEON. This will probobly come down to your vote in the end. You have to think of this ability in the long run, and how it will affect not only the Rifleman, but all other professions as well.
Rethink your ideas. The ghillie suit needs some work.
