Thread: Ghillie suit proposal
In general, I agree with Salomon on this one. I say in general because I am for the Guile Suit idea (however its spelled) but I dont want it to destroy the game. It does have the potential, if not done exactly right, to reset balances and affect several professions.
Though I can't speak for what percentage of people do what, I know that for my own personal choice, I don't want to do PvP right now. I'm enjoying exploring and hunting solo and in small groups. Like Salomon, I too only play approx 3 hrs a night. I'm not far in rifleman, but I'm having fun. I would like to make it up to Master someday without hating the grind. I'm trying to "stop and smell the flowers" while I get there though.
When I get there, I hope to find that my profession can compete without dominating and without being dominated. I hope to find most major bugs gone. (Of course, I also hope to win the lottery someday!) Unfortunately, Guile Suit sounds like it could cause ripples in the force for a long time while they try to make it work right.

a) a ghillie suit as a new item of clothing to allow us to feel more like snipers is a good idea.
b) radar immunity in any form of implementation is too unbalancing - and would bring many of the uber l33t pistoleer/carb/BH'rs type dabblers into our midst.
c) the fact that someone will eventually come up with a 3rd party program that negates this advantage will make it redundant anyway.. (re other MMORPG's)
Ok. Fine. Radar aside, what would people like the suit to do? or would it just be a rifleman crafted spec-ops duster type item? - remember that you cant make it take advantages from the other profession lines (ie Ranger). Should it just build on our existing skill sets? If so how? Thx for your continued input on this matter. I really want to see it implemented in some form.
I'm sorry for not taking the time to read all of the responses, so if this has been brought up, forgive me.
I love this idea, but i disagree on the one shot idea.I think it would be much more realistic if there were a timer on it.
example: I am using the suit and move up to a creature/player at the 55m limit. I aim, fire and wait for 30secs or minute doesn't matter to me, but unlessI fail my /conceal check or whatever it will be called, I would not be targetable. This would make sence because some one totally unaware, coupled with our suit and camo, should not be able to discern our whereabouts.
I am lookin at it from a realism standpoint. If I fire only once and wait, they shouldn't find me. I could then move and refire from a different position and move again. Unless they see me fire (I fail my /conceal), they wouldn't know where I am coming from.
I would also put a negative to /conceal in somehow. Everytime we use this suit there is a /conceal check, but it should lower with each shot, and build back up over time. Immediately after our shot is taken, we could have a -100 or so to /conceal, and it would slowly count down to 0. So the longer we wait, the better chance we have of staying concealed.
But with that being said, this would vastly overpower anything in the game as we would be able to sneak anywhere and take out anyone. At least it would show us riflemen some love.
I am done making my point known anymore. I am not listened to what-so-ever. I will just leave this thread with these last words:

"c) the fact that someone will eventually come up with a 3rd party program that negates this advantage will make it redundant anyway.. (re other MMORPG's)"
That is the most rediculous thing I have ever heard of. You can't let the possibility of a 3rd party program stop you from making necessary game changes. You could make a 3rd party program that will make your character show up as white to every one on the radar, thus making you unattackable, and that didn't stop sony from putting in that character type. Allowing fear to drive you is how we ended up with such a craptacular product on our shelves in the first place. Sony's fear that if they waited any longer that the game wouldn't sell.
Just thought I'd add that I know I didn't put commando on there. That's cause we'll still be able to take them out, they're fubar. ![]()
But I'd also like to add pikemen, fencers, rangers and swordsmen to the list of professions we'll be bending over for.
How about a rifleman knockdown? An aimed shot at the legs or whatever.
It'd cost a bit... 400 HAM or so but it'd add a little more realism to the fact that once you get shot by a rifleman... you aren't supposed to get up.
But yeah, I do like the ghillie suit idea... very cool.
I know a few people that are Rangers. (And I don't mean in SWG =p)

im not even going to comment on your attitude, that being said this is more than just another piece of clothing. This would be perfect for the Rifleman IMO fits in well with the whole sniper idea.
and i do love the whole count down thing where the longer you wait the more of a chance you wont be uncovered. this needs to be put in the game ![]()
This idea is totally balance busting, there is no need to introduce stealth. Giving the class with the hardest single hit stealth is absolutely stupid if you want to keep some kind of player balance in PvP.
Again people need to stop trying to turn a class into something it isnt, and adapt to its stregths instead.

you're telling me a sniper doesn't use Stealth?
again in all other games Stealth = invisiblity which yes that would be BAD if they gave rifleman invisiblity. what the original poster is saying is that if you come within certain distance of the sniper ... the sniper will be uncovered on your radar.
I dont think this is overpowered and i played DAOC as a tank and always fought for a stealth nerf. I thought it was silly that someone could walk right up to my face dance and then stab me with me not being able to do one thing.
Good. I for one am sick of you
