i cant use cover anyways, whenever i do i'm reduced to honey-speed.
If you're a ranger and you /takecover you'll get completely screwed because you move reaaaaaaaaaaally slowly or not even move at all. And when I say "slowly," I mean REALLY slowly. Not enough people /bug this and patch after patch it isn't fixed.
So anyway, that's why you're moving at "honey-speed." ![]()

Only rifleman can move while using take cover. There is a significant defensive bonus to using it as well against ranged attacks...is this not working for you guys? It seems to work wonders for me.
I am not a rifleman, I am a commando, but I use take cover from time to time, usually against Humanoid type NPC's since they always are bunched together and they all seem to like using blasters and other ranged weapons....Taking cover seems to greatly reduce the damage I take. of course, I DO have a +5 take cover mod tape in one socket on one of my articles of clothing...but i can't see that extra 5 making THAT big of a difference.
As far as movement goes, you cant while in a covered state unless you have the skills that allow you to do it.
I don't use cover because as soon as I shoot a mob in a camp, the melee's suddenly warp ontop of me after about 6 seconds.
That or a suddenly warp 10m backwards..
About take cover causing decreased movement speed: I noticed this for a while (I am a rifleman/ranger, it seems that it might be specific to us) but it seems to have stopped being a problem for me. I dunno if they fixed it, or if getting higher in ranger (now 4 4 4 1) helped, or what. I have heard from others that finding another target, taking cover, and shooting it will fix your speed, so you may want to try that. Also, if all else fails a quick relogin always fixed me (not an ideal solution, I know).
Oh, and I think that Aldeon is incorrect about Surprise shot being the only special you can use from cover... I mean, you get the ability to take cover back in the marksman tree don't you? I have done plenty of headshots from cover, although not recently as I really don't understand what cover gains you, especially if you can just do conceal shots...
Suprise is supposed to be an opening slavo providing bonus damage but aggroing. swgcenter has the multiplier at 2.0
I cannot confirm the multipliers but the theory sounds good.
First off, who's actually tested this to see if its working properly? Or was it just looking at code and spotting an inconsistancy and then fixing that *THEN* not doing any follow up testing to see if it works properly?
Maybe i'm missing something here but I was reading this thread while the servers were down and I decided to test out this shot to see if i could figure out what it did after the suposed fix. I've tried using this shot in the past and have ALWAYS gotten either 1 of 3 results. I've done this today after the *FIX* and still get the same results (aug 22, 2003).
A) Shot fires as per normal shot, no messages other than what would normally happen from the /attack command on an NPC, both tried from cover and out of cover. This is probably due to /surpriseshot doing nothing and not showing any type of message and having a normal attack fire off as your next action.
B) Spamming surprise shot while under cover gives me the message "This attack cannot be done with this weapon!" using a DLT20a.
C) Spamming surprise shot while under cover gives me the message "You use Wide Wild Shot on a XXX for XX points of damage!" using a CDEF CARBINE.. yup you heard that right.. a CARBINE! Effect is a stun.
Soo there we have it, the reason why it cleared you from covered state is becuase its the WRONG attack special in the wrong profession tree. Same thing can be said about Disarming Shot2 in the pistoleer tree,I believe that attack effect should be a carbine prof special, somehow I don't equate disarming shot2 with anAE knockdown effect? I suspect someone needed some sleep while they were typing the effects into the database ![]()
BTW, someone owes me 50 creds for the cost of the CDEF carbine to test this out!

I believe this is how it was intended....
You sneak into range of enemy and take cover. You then supriseshot, which blows your cover. Now you can't suprise the enemy anymore because you have no cover. Suprising the enemy gives you a damage bonus and maybe even a stun bonus.
