Actually it kind of depends. In RL semi-auto weapons fire between all three is about the same. So all weapons have about the same fire rate. The main difference is that it's easier to find automatic carbines and rifles than pistols. Automatics will fire faster than a semi of course. But there are some full auto pistols. Beretta 93 is one example of a select fire pistol.


Nor do pistols have higher damage in RL. You are exactly right in saying that they have high damage but it has to be close. In RL damage is determined by the caliber of the weapon. If I'm firing a 9mm for a pistol, carbine, or rifle from the same range they would do the same damage. The weapon has nothing to do with the damage, it is all part of the calibre.


The main difference between most pistols and rifles is that rifles usually have slightly smaller caliber but they are also firing at a much higher velocity. The pistol round loses damage potential at a much faster rate over range than a rifle round does.


Now in SW in most cases we are talking energy weapons. So the determining factor for damage would have to be a measurement of that energy. Lets say it's joules. If I fire a 100 joule shot from a pistol, carbine, or rifle it doesn't matter. It's the same amount of energy and would do the same damage. The advantage of the rifle and carbine over the pistol then becomes apparent. The larger weapons can hold more energy. So they can release a more powerful shot while maintaining the same number of shots as the pistol. The disadvantage is their bulk and large size. Makes them harder to hide and use in tight quarters.

The EE3 is one. It has a 3m radius to all it's shots, but not surprisingly, the radius isn't working.
