I believe it would be best to restate this problem as:
"Pistols are sufficiently accurate at all ranges out to64m, that the alleged long range accuracy advantages of rifles are meangingless"
Understood in that context ... the dev response is somewhat ... confusing.
He's referring to the fact that delta between your current distance to target and your ideal distance to target governs your to hit penalty. If a pistol is 0/0/-80 and a rifle is 0/0/-80 they both are -80 at 64m. But if the ideal range on the pistol is 10 and the ideal range on the rifle is 50, then at 60m the penalty on to hit penalty on the pistol is -68 but the penalty on the rifle is -5.
Im confused by #4, it sounds as if pistol max range is supposed to be shorter.
4) Nothing will change, Pistols will still have a major advantage at any range over Rifles.
Maybe the Devs have misunderstood this problem? That's the only excuse they could have for not doing something about this problem.
5) Looks like we'll be teleporting right into the mouths of our enemies for awhile yet.
6) We're still absolutely screwed in relation to all other Combat classes and the in PVE - no change
What I was saying by that, is even though its -68, they have 100 percent accuracy (with styles)much like our styles do. So even though they have -68, they still hit as if it was +50. Were as if im at 10 meters away, my -68 is actually -68, and I miss nearly every other shot, if not more.

Agree with Stealth on this, I mean, if pistol is supposed to own Rifle at 64m, why even have rifle?
#4 and #6 seems like the devs didnt even understand the problem becouse the answers are just wrong.
Is Q even aware of the fact that pistols have a max range of 64m as well ?
The comment would make sense if pistols maxed at 30m and carbines at 45m.
Sad, very sad. I was hoping for some sort of a fix to #4 and #6. But it appears that we're intended to be an inferior combat class. Why does our "advantage" come with the penalties? I frequently group with a pistoleer and it's sickening to me how much more xp he gets per kill then i do. He get's the "advantage" of shooting 5 times faster then me, being more accurate then me at any range,and doing much more damage over time then me. But because i hit the mind pool, i suffer the penelty of taking 2x damage from melee, and getting much less xp then him. It's nice to hear it from the Dev's themselves that our class is supposed to be weaker then the rest.
To be fair, #6 could easilly be read as a PvP complaint, where its answer is quite reasonable. We trade off lower DPS against other players for damage they cannot heal. Good.
Or perhaps it was intended in the spirit: "Riflemen havearather hardtime compared to other ranged weapon users (aside from commandos, of course) in PvE" ... I keep telling myself it is worth it for the advantages of unhealable damage in PvP. Of course, I fear they will nerf mind damage in some fashion, without doing a thing to adjust the PvE side.

Two comments:
Its a real sign your class is over powered/ or doing much better than everyone else when your top issues include: Holsters, and Cool looking graphics.
I'll assume that if pistol is getting more weapons while get them too, otherwise pistol might be getting a little to much love from the dev's.
However when I read our questions in particular the PvE and the Pistol v Rifle range I see two responses that don't show an understanding of the issue at all. So lets see one week to list issues, 3 weeks to get a response and a few more to implement. We'll have this issue all fixed up by November maybe if were lucky.

Yes this is the real problem, rifle specials (at least according to very old beta data) have low to hit bonuses, or pistols have high ones depending on how you look at it.
I think the problem was stated incorrectly and the dev just answered it point-blank.
Aldeon, you will need to changed your signature. Instead of:
-If you see me from a distance, chances are you're already dead.
You should change it to the following for accuracy:
-If you see me from a distance, chances are you're already dead, unless we're exactly 64 Meters apart.![]()
