Thread: Warping when going prone
I think it's all about the distance. I've been warping since the marksman tree-- or should I say creatures have been warping. If you are at 64 meters or more (with a powerup), they'll warp everytime if they don't have a ranged attack. If they have a ranged attack, they'll move to their ideal range and attack usually. What's more is that attacking a lair will produce the warping creature right on you without an appearance at the nest.
I think the program is set to tell npc / creatures to attack from their ideal range. That setting in the program takes over any movement commands upon attacking. Also, line of sight seems to be a factor. Inclines or obstacles will cause warping much faster than attacking on a flat open plain.

I'm not a Rifleman =)

I'm not certain when during my career that warping started. I should try creating a new character and seeing if it happens to him, that would rule out the skill trees affecting it.
I'm still convinced that creature warping and prone warping are completely unrelated. Creature warping appears to be the answer devs had for creatures getting stuck on geometry, some kind of check that determines whether the creature pathing will get to you, and it isn't working as it ought to.
Warping from just running? Not sure what to think about that. =(
I have the sawm 'prone warping' issue. I am a Master Rifleman, Master Scout. On another server I have a Master Carbineer, Master Squad Leader (which requires some Scout skills, as you know.), and he warps too. I doubt it is a scout thing, I have a Master BH friend who does not warp, although he rarely goes prone. I also have a Cable connection.

I warp all the time. I am a rifleman with a special "take cover" skill that i cannot use
my hunting budy is also a rifle man and I willl kneel next to him prone. (he dont warp)
everytime i miss i wish i was prone
i rifleman that can go prone
this game has so much stuff wrong with it that its kind of sad.
and we cant even talk about in depth tactics for fear of getting things nerfed
It has not happened the last few days, but quite a bit last week, I found I was warping even while kneeling. Did anyone else experience this?
Here is another, and I believe the most critical, common factor. I have noticed that the place I warp back to appears to be the place I acquired the target. Thus, if I acquire my target, at 70m, move up 15m to 55m and go prone, if I warp, I will be back at that point 70m from my target where I acquired the target. Likewise, if I pickup a target at 40m, move out to 60m and go prone, I will suddenly find myself warped forward to the 40m distance.
My workaround has been, therefore, to always break the target before going prone, then reacquiring it after going prone. Since I have started doing this, the only times I warp is when I forget to follow that procedure.
Try it out and let me known what your experience is.

As far as I can remember the warping started around the time i started the ranger and rifleman trees, started both about the same time and I cannot recall it ocurring before taking these professions. I don't warp all the time, sometimes i can go a whole night without warping when going prone, other times I spend the whole night crawling up to my targets from 90-100m away because I just warp away if I try to run there.
I have noticed it seems to happen less if i run up to the range I want to be, kneel, then make sure I am not targeting anything before going prone. Not always 100% but seems to help even when warping is occuring alot.
I also am wondering how many people have the option on to always run in the world..... I ask this because i've noticed that when you go prone/sit/kneel and then stand the game thinks you are running (anyone with the forage skill can test this, you will get a message saying you cannot forage while running). If the problem is with the game not knowing how we go from running to prone maybe turning this options (to always be running) off will have some affect on warping.
I'll try this out in the game to see if it cuts down the warping, if anyone one else thinks its worth a try please post what happened...

I have gotten into the habit of crawling to targets (if I'm close enough), or going on a knee, firing a shot and then going prone.
