How do ya put armor/weapons on a macro. Call by serial #? That would help a bunch...
Commands were taken from http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=17597
Put your armour in bar 4, top row, slots 1 - 9, then make a macro and enter this text:
/ui action toolbarPane03;/ui action toolbarSlot00;/ui action toolbarSlot01;/ui action toolbarSlot02;/ui action toolbarSlot03;/ui action toolbarSlot04;/ui action toolbarSlot05;/ui action toolbarSlot06;/ui action toolbarSlot07;/ui action toolbarSlot08;/ui action toolbarPane00
Drag the macro onto a hotbar and hit it. It's best to use it while naked / clothes only as if you equip the chest piece yourself and hit this macro it will UNequip the armour you are wearing.

The best balance between protection and HAM costs have been the factional armor.
In my case, as a Zabrak Imperial, I have chosen to sstart the long, grueling road of earning a suit of ST armor ( minus the helmet of course, I am still a rifleman )
The easiest way is to not wear a full set of armor though. Chestplate, bracers, and boots have served me well through the whole game.

Tantel armor is worth mentioning, it can be made with no vulnerabilities and has somewhat low enc. only drawback is that it only overs head/chest/feet.

I find that a very "limited" armor setup is what is needed for a Rifleman. Obviously, a helmet is just FLAT OUT. Get it out of your head. Not going to happen. Not in this lifetime, anyhow.
That being said, I generally keep more than one armor configuration around. For when I get Melee-Screwed, I find that an Ubese Jacket/Pants combo is great. It does mostly Kinetic, but the HAM costs can be REALLY LOW, and it offers a lot of coverage for only being two pieces.
For other types of damage, it really depends on what I can get out of my local Armorsmith. Padded can be nice, as it doesn't drag you down as much as Composite (nor does it kick the crap out of your wallet). For Energy, though, I often find that PSDs are disposable solutions that don't chew on my HAM and can be turned on and off quickly depending on what I am fighting.

Someone mentioned that PSG's stacked with armour, are you sure about that?

Yep - but it's not absolute. I hav Tantel Boots and Chest Plate that has 24% Energy Resistance, and a MKI Shield Gen with 22% Energy Resistance - but when i get hit by a blaster it actually works out about 30-33% resistance stacked.
Surprised about some of the armour listed - on Lowca, Kestral Armour had a ton of Tantel that had 20%+ Energy with 5-10% on most of the others, yet i never see people wearing it - always composite or bone...

If you want to use composite as a rifleman, go and try to get a bunch of Nightsister Armor Segments. They have negative encumbrace values, and I believe that if you make a whole suit out of them, you'll get somewhere around -90 to -100 mind encumbrance compared to the best advanced composite that can be made. Add in a good encumbrance slice and you could conceivably get a pretty decent suit.

What are you saying about night sister armour? Are you saying they drop segments that can be used in crafting armour that helps with enc? I thought the night sisters dropped pieces of armour that you couold wear but had no protection value

Check out bone armor again. I wear a suit with 30% energy resists. I wear it doing factional destroy missoins, so almost everything attack me with energy attacks. Low encumbrance also.

ok this is going to be a stupid suggestion...
but what if some new helmet came out that had two side things to hold cans of mind enhancers with bendable straws in them? This way you'll have some sorta helmet while sucking on mind enhancing stuff (like beer).
nevermind.

Nightsiters drop both types. Occasionaly they drop a full fledged peice of armor that can be worn. (Though all I've ever seen in biceps, and I thought I read somewhere that it could only be worn by females.) They also occasionaly drop armor segments, similar to the segments dropped by Kryat Dragons, Sharnaffs, Kimogila's, etc. The unique thing about the Nightsister armor segments, though, is that they have negative action and mind encumbrance values, so using them actually lowers the encumbrance of the crafted armor. I know they're very rare, and I've heard speculation that they drop on less than 1 in 20 nightsisters, and good luck fighting nightsisters as a rifleman. Maybe they're not all the same, but the one's I've ran into had 100% resist to everything but Blast and Kinetic. (Though it appears that 100% resists cap at 90-95%.) You'll need a group or strong pets to fight them.
