Stratle shot is a delay. Once you are hit with it u cannot perform another action until its broken. My opponents stay startled for 1-3 seconds during which time any attack that hits them breaks the effect. So its not a very long lasting state effect. Sounds like your friend is just using a great combination of specials to whoop you. As it is though headshot, startleshot and kneecap shot are basically the only shots i use as Master Rifleman/Master Weaponsmith, I am Lvl54 and can stomp on people in PVP using only those at 80m range with my cyborg arms on. Triple incap FTW!!! They should just give us ranged DB back.

Sorry, but he isn't suing a great combination of specials, he is abusing the fact startle shots don't have a delay, which they should, just like any other shot that stops you from doing something. And he didn't whoop me, I had him down about 3/4 of the way before I went down, just doing head shots, when I could, but with lag, I was being delayed for 6 to 10 secs at times before I could even shoot.

You can spam headshot and almost take out any enemy, it does enough damage that you don't really need any other shot to go along with it. I use knockdown and critical shot to give me more of a balanced attack. I have yet to see where kneecap does me any good. Knowing what startle shot does now, I am going to try and use it with my knockdown hit, but not sure how well it will work together.

I too have this combo. (Mrifleman, MCM, Pistols 0404). And I too have found the startle/disarm combo to be quite devastating 1v1. Add in your combat medic abilities, and the pistol root, you can pretty much beat anyone (save for uber jedi... ive tried it on a couple that were having NONE of it. I didnt have a chance). But you must remember what counts in this game. Who cares about dueling? Dueling is just to try stuff out, see how it works on someone. The real test is massive PvP, and the startle/disarm combo has a very small place there, if one at all.

I tend to use the combo on NPCs when doing missions or something, works great. Combine it with the combat medic debuffs, it annihilates. The only thing I have come to notice is that it drains your action considerably. I usually just take some spice, increasing action regen by 20%, doesn't help so much. There is more out there to help out, but remember that the action cost is quite high.

And as for being able to heal while disarmed/startled, no, you can't. You can't do anything while you are under these effects.

If you do find yourself in a 1v1 situation (I have encountered some moments, like finding a straggler outside a PvP battle), I suggest using advanced aim ( /aim_2 ), to get your accuracy boosted some 200 points so you can even outdo some jedi. If you have CM (It's a popular combo with rifleman, I know a lot of you have it), definitely paralyze, hemorrage, electrolyte, run and kneecap shot. The electrolyte combined with kneecap is pretty much a total root, the people can barely move at all (probably about 25% normal speed). Once the target is sufficiently debuffed, hack away with your startle/disarm, making sure your action doesnt drop. If it does drop below, try and paralyze them one time, and sit down for seriously 3 seconds, and stand up. Your action should go a great deal back up. Rinse and repeat.

Once again, this will pretty much beat anything save for master defenders or whatever. Someone previous stated good ways to counter the combo, but another good way is simple: run! You can always move while under the disarm effect. Run behind a building or something to take cover, so that your attacker can't keep spamming the attacks at you.

The sufficiently educated player will still have a hard time with this, but can take steps to prevent being bested by it. Know your template, know its strengths and weaknesses, know what you can and can't do.

I didn't know it did anything, other than make them move up once stance. I'll have to play with this now.

only advanced startle does the delay.

Imo it's not really a "cheep shot" of any kind and really does its job of moving the cu forward the direction it was kind of supposed to in the beginning--groups. What is will do is stop any PHYSICAL action for a given period of time (someone said 3 sec, i think it's actually closer to 6 sec because i timed my startleshot reuse timer a few times and it wears off just as you can use another, enough so that if you're going 1v1 with an enemy they can get an attack in before you can attack again, which is about 6 sec) note that this does not apply to force heals, so anyone with jedi healing can still heal during this delay. If you're doing nothing but duels then the startleshot/disarm shot combo is VERY nice, but as soon as you get more than 1 person really it might as well be just there to give yourself a bit more time since you can only keep one person at a time in this sort of limbo, as soon as a second person comes in it's done.

Sure it can be countered... but the rifleman can counter the center of being. Heard of Crispic? Or accuracy attachments?

Yeah and their is food that gives you ranged defence bonuses as well

BTW I don't think you get a 500 point accuracy bonus with Crispic, I have seen good boosts but not 500, like the 500 D you get with advanced COB in TKA 0-1-0-0......

CM's are like nukes. You have them just incase you need them, but as soon as you start using yours the other guys start using theirs and everything goes to hell-PyschoticChipmunk -The First line of the Riflenomican.
