Thread: Rifleman tips
If you shoot mask scent does not go away. It used to for a very shot period of time, but it was decided that it was annoying, so it was fixed.
I was not aware that the more mask scent you have the more shots you get.. I don' tbelieve that is how it works.. can any more people add input on this?
You don't need a pet for rifleman. You just need buffs.
MOve everything in to mind, and buff your other stats when you go out. You also need some Brandy , but if that's too expensive then Muon is your second option.. although you have to deal with the down time... theres food that lowers downtime, but I have not played with that yet.
But DEFINETLY move everything in to you rmind!!.. you'll need it.
If you kneel and mask scent (some say prone, but I have NEVER noticed a difference between kneeling and proning) then you will get 3 - 4 free shots on any creature. Pikets are good for xp.. you'll get about 4000 per kill. Without mask scent you get one or two less shots.. depends on your speed I believe. I am currently
2 1 2 1 and master marksman and I get 4 free shots on a piket w/ maskscent. If you have the ranged support line,k you're fourth shot can be suppresion fire.. if it lands, then you get two more free shots. Thats enough to put a serious dent in a pikets ham...
Worth it's weight in gold that command is.
Using maskscent as well you can take down anything from a squill to an Enraged bull rancor without them even knowing you were there
Migrate your stats so you have plenty of mind (believe me you'll need it) buy yourself a good T-21 from a decent weaponsmith and have it sliced (by a master smuggler only) damage or speed slice, it doesn't matter which cos you can buy powerups to boost the un-sliced stat.
Invest in some Vasarian Brandy and Muon gold as well, both are very good mind boosters, but only use the Muon Gold in emergencies when you really need it (because of the comedown effects)
Get yourself a good spraystick (basically like a pistol for riflemen) so you don't have to worry about being crap at close-quarters, and a Jawa Ion Rifle too, (many creatures and types of armour are vulnerable to stun damage)........get them both sliced and add a powerup to the un-sliced stat.
Ater doing all this just shoot as much stuff as you can, bigger the better basically, Fambaas on Naboo will give you around 4k exp per kill, and anything else roughly that size.
I just drop a brandy, go prone, and spam the hell outta conceal shot, works every time.
Hope this helps

ok I though mask scent affected the animals awarness of you. If you shoot mask scent goes away. Do you mean take cover? Sorry again very new to combat.
Takecover only adds to ranged defenses. Awarness is affected by posture and distance. The lower your posture and the further away you are, the better your chances of remaining undetected. So prone at your best range is your best bet. Prone also adds to aiming bonuses, so you will miss less.
Mask scent will help in that the creature will have increased awareness when it starts getting hit, and mask scent keeps it from detecting you a little bit longer, I believe. However, the bonuses come primarily from posture and distance.
For hunting most creatures, Takecover is only a waste of HAM. It usually takes two or three trys to make it stick. Each try uses HAM, and, you cannot heal yourself while prone (a requirement of TakeCover), so you have taken away HAM that you cannot heal until you have to get up. Unfortunately, you will usually be getting up because the creature has aggroed on you and is either bearing down on you or is already biting your butt. This is not the time to be be starting out with less than full HAM. And if you have no medic, you will have no way to repair it, meaning you are starting out with a slight handicap, somethingyou cannot really afford as a rifleman. Besides, it only adds to your ranged defenses. It does not help for melee, and it does not make you more difficult to detect (being prone does that for you). Since most creatures are melee, using TakeCover for general hunting is of no real value, and of limited value elsewhere since it does not really add that much to your defenses.
My ideas:
Get 2 T21s. Get one sliced for damage, and hope the other one gets sliced for speed. Use Accordingly.
Get a good Laser rifle as a backup, butI use mine for longe-range PvP or PvE sniping (it's more accurate than my T21s at 64m)
Use a pet (mine is a non-CH Dalyrake about 4.2k/3k/1k HAM) as your defender in case the creatures you are shooting run towards you.
Move your stats to mind because rifles drain the mind more than any other weapon.
Get up to sniping 2 or 3 before you start learning the other shots. Learn rifle abilites as soon as you can, the speed enhances make leveling easy.
I've been hunting Malklocs or Reptilian Fliers on Dathomir, but pikets or quenkes on Dantooine work just as well.
Ok cool guys this info is helping a ton. Got a few more questions from what you guys are saying and they will probly be newb hehe.
Brandy does it increas all 3 stats under mind or just the visible one in the ham bar? How much does it increas it/them? And for how long
Power ups: Have never used them and down know how. Do they last forever? do you have to constantly power up with new ones? What kinds are there and how do they affect the rifle.
Clothing: What should a rifleman wear
Bit confused. Some of you are saying it is better to use mask scent and prone and others are saying use Conceal shot. Also a few of you are saying to push didferent trees in the rifleman profesion than others. I guess its just one of thouse that all the trees are good hehe.
Thanks a lot guys this has helped me understand rifleman a lot better.

No matter what shot you use, mask scent will help. If you are not using concealshot, it will help you get off a shot or two more at times. Also, Concealshot only protects you provided you are not detected by some other means, such as if the creature wanders to close and detects you. So mask scent helps reduce the chance that you will be detected for some other reason. In any case, use Mask Scent if you have it; there is no downside.
No matter what shot you use, prone will help. It increases your aim bonus, makes you harder to detect, and increases your ranged defenses if you are under ranged fire. However, there are also disadvantages. It is also true that, the lower your posture, the more damage you will take when under melee attack, and you cannot hit targets up close while you are prone. So you want to start out at distance and prone. Shoot whatever shots you want to shoot until the target and/or its friends aggro on you, then get up and kite them before they get within 20m of you. Why 20m? Because that is the maximum possible distance (ignoring lag extending this) for a melee attack.
Most melee attacks will be at 10m or under depending on the weapon used. However, Brawler has a Lunge1 attack that will reach 15m and do a posture down. Master Brawler's Lunge2 has a 20m reach and can do a Knockdown. Creature attacks will have similar features. Therefore, you want to always stay more than 20m from any melee attacks.
Just a tip - the main difference between kneeling and prone is how quickly the target locates you.
Kneeling seem to be about 2 shots on average before they spot you, prone about 3.
Of course - if you go straight for conceal shot right out of the barrell it's all a moot point anyway. =)

Since you are CH the best shot for you to get first is Flushing2 (0-0-3-0) box. Send your pet onto a lair. Have all the creatures come out and attack your pet. Make sure they are all out and aggro to your pet.
Then take the brandy and have muon on reserve and target one, and spam flushing2. You'll take them all down at once. I did this with Mountains Squills, completed a lair in under a min. (Minus the pet attacking the lair time) Roughly 30k XP a min. (Rifle shooting time)
Standing, kneeling or prone don't matter.
Key point is make sure ALL the creatures are aggro'd to the pet and inside your AOE
I agree that this is that way to go, since you'll have pets to do this with. For this way of leveling though, I'd go with speed over damage since the idea is to shoot as fast as possible, instead of getting the really high damage with hs2/conceal shot sniping. I personally used a speed sliced laser rifle which was 4.0 speed before powerup, and 2.7 after.
I personally had to order some 33% ranged powerups from a weaponsmith, but they're worth it until late stages of rifle abilities when your speed starts to kick in.
Brandy will increase all three stats, but it is expensive!! Well worth it though.
If you're paying a lot like 250k then make sure the stomach filling is <50 so you can drink two. I personaly bought crates of 52 filling for 25k a piece... which is an unbelivable deal if you ask me, since after 2 min or so I can take the second one
No one makes these intentionally though.. this was a screw up batch.
Allways use power ups on your weapons. Each powerup will give you 100 shots. My favorite power up is Max dam 33% min 16%. That will boost the maximum damage of your weapon by 33% and minimum by 16%. A crate of 10 should cost about 3000 - 5000. I've seen some for 2000.. depends where you go. But ALWAYS use power ups.. there's no reason not to.. . They cause your gun to degrade faster, but honestly, it's not noticable. The pros GREATLY outweigh the cons.
Make sure you slice what ever gun you buy... once again, no reason not to.
Clothing... whatever you want! .. you can get some Bio Enhanced stuff that helps w/ melee defense or some mask scent stuff... no major impacts from clothing.
Brief Description of Conceal Shot -
PRO - Shoot a creature indefinetly without it noticing you.
CON - There's abug where sometime conceal shot will bleed a target. At that point, you WILL get agroed. It might not be a bug, maybe it has something to do with therifles Wound chance %. The lower the better for concealshot, cause you don't want to wound!..... maybe. Someone cancorrect me there.
CON - It's random pool damage, so it can take a while to kill something. It's very boring, and you don't really feel involved in the battle. eg. you can hit something 5 times and take it's red bar down to 100.. then you might start hitting the action bar... so.. he's ALMOST dead... but.. . no not quite.. jus thave to wait.
CON - If you're attacking a red mob then they might agro on you if they break your scent or detect you just cause.. you know..they're mean!
That's conceal shot in a nutshell. I don't like it, but others swear by it. Best advice is to get it, cause it's 0 1 0 0 and make the decision for yourself.
Always use mask scent when firing, because you get 1 or 2 extra free hits. The alternative to conceal shot is to use your specials, Head shot 1 2 and 3... naturaly use the best one you have available. HS 2 is the best damage versus ham cost, but if you'rve buffed.. (and you should be) then HS 3 is just fine.Honestly I always kneel as opposed to prone when fighting animals because i have NEVER seen a difference, and when the mob agroes on me I don't have to go to kneel and waste an attack. When fighting NPCs, I prone, because most are Ranged, and you get better defense proned... I think.. not 100% sure.
You basicly want to go to 0 0 3 x as quickly as you can, cause flushing shot 2 will help you level faster... although at the moment it is slightly bugged.. but I think it still works well. If you find that you're missing a lot, then you migh twnat to climbone or two of the x 0 0 0 box first. And naturally the 0 0 0 x box will be combat xp, so you don't have much control over that one.
That's all I got, hope it helps.
