Thread: 500+ DPS adv. Laser rifle
to bad elemental damage doesn't scale with a special - so DPS for a weapon with elemental damage is even more misleading.
If you think DPS is so important, go buy a weapon with estimated base dps in the 300's with a SAC of like 120+ trust me - you'll find it.
Then buy a weapon in the same price range with the HIGHEST max damage you can find and SAC as low as possible (at this price range the speed is likely to suck.)
Now go hunt some level 78 stuff (you're 80, or 2 levels down.)
use the low sac weapon first. advanced sniper shot, cripple, head shot, head shot, head shot, head shot, head shot... that should do it.
now try the high DPS weapon. same sequence. I bet you are out of action points by the 4th or 5th head shot.
while you recover from incap check your combat log. Look at the time between shots for both weapons and the damage inflicted per hit. Then, after you do all that decide for yourself which is more important. Also, for giggles, repeat this exercise using placed and ranged shots only.
I belive Melee/Ranged Def is why there is a min dmaage listed. The more Def you have over their accuracy the more your opponent's weapon will hit closer to the min damage. For example, reason why Master Defender Jedi and Melee templates in general are good at mitigating damage is not just because of armor (everyone has that) but I believe the +500 mele/ranged def bonus they get in their professions makes weapons with a low min value/high max value less effective (including the +200 they can get in the profession boxes). Not only does this cause you to miss the player but it makes weapons like a Lightsaber much more effective due to the fact there is little difference between min/max damage.

Wrong. DPS takes into account min damage, and so far no one has discovered why min damage is listed as it does not effect anything. Also, DPS does not take SAC into account, as a high DPS/high SAC is usually worse than a mid DPS/mid-low SAC.

On Starsider I was fortunate enough to find a vendor selling crates (10 powerups--500 uses each) of +27 damage and +5% speed.. so my speed actually is lower....
Thus creating a larger DPS increase... and 2 boot they were only 2K per crate.
Actually the +5% to speed means you took a "hit" to speed....your weapon should fire slower. A combo of 27/5 is actually not bad at all on the pups, so probably a good buy for you. I think my +29.47 damage pups have a 5.3% hit to speed, so those would be comparable. It's confusing how they have some + and some - now on pups and other modifiers. I am never sure how to label my pups so they are not confusing..............

Min max damage is important, but its not just what counts. A high DPS is really important to. Because really high dps gun and low damage gun, will do the same damage as a high damage low dps gun, because dps, damage per second, dictates really how much damage will be done per second. So clearly a higher dps is important. If you combine that with a high damage, you have a nice gunAnd no man that sounds weird about your DPS dropping. What were the stats on the pup you used? And it could be a weird glitch or some problem with your dps capping to high. Not sure. . .
One thing you guys are forgeting is SAC costs. It doesn't matter how high your max damage is or your uber dps if cant fire very many shots due to high SAC!
