Akinoor - thank you for the detailed post. I'm not too loaded, but I can get money when I need it, so buying the above items shouldn't be too much of a problem. I just want to make sure I'm getting a good deal on things before I buy them. I'll have to start looking around for some ubese armor, as you're right, this composite I'm wearing is just a bit too heavy for sniping. I was debating just trying ahrisa + brandy and taking my helmet off, but I really don't like the idea of leaving my head open for attack (and since my armor is so heavy, I can't put the pieces on without full buffs and muon gold, so no hot swapping of my helmet during combat would be possible - and actually, I don't know if it is even possible in the first place!)

On the money issue, I was wondering if any of you had an idea as to a decent price for ahrisa and canape? I typically seem to find crates of 25 are around 100k, and I think that's a little steep, but maybe it's just me. 3 uses per item is also not so great on the ahrisa, how many uses does the canape have?

That price isn't bad. It's different from server to server but I pay 150K+ for mine on Bloodfin. And remember that's 3*40+*25= at least 16 hours with 1200 focus. I don't remember the uses on canape but remember it's only 10 minutes and due to stomach filling, you can't use it all the time.

Regarding the armor, yes it's heavy. I'm using composite 85+ chest/helmet/legs and rest encumbrance sliced and I am at 500 encumbrace. It's quite a difference for ham cost.

Wow, thanks for the tips everyone. This is proving to be very helpful. I took down some stats when I was in-game, and this is where I'm at:

My Stats

My T21 rifle has a 106 mind cost, which I'm guessing is pretty high considering my laser rifle is only 60 mind cost (for specials.) When it comes to using specials, I think it'd probably be best to switch to the laser rifle.. actually, come to think about it, I don't even know why I really use the T21 - all it seems to have is better armor piercing.. it's much slower (speed 6 vs. speed 4.3) and it really doesn't outdamage the laser rifle by that much.

I'm wearing full composite armor, save two pieces which are ubese (left/right bracers) and each piece of composite has a 87 mind encumbrance. I like the idea of getting another armor set for normal missions - a full set of ubese would probably help a lot.

I've yet to find a good vendor of ahrisa on Chilastra. I found one the other night, but he was only selling crates of 25 for 100k, and I don't think I really need that much at once. I also wasn't able to find a good vendor of canape, either. Vasarian brandy however seems to be very easy to come by.

If you are not at the speed cap, use a speed/mind cost powerup to bring down the mind costs and boost the speed, which will increase your DPS by the amount of the speed increase.

About canape vs. ahrisa:
I had to go with ahrisa over canape, but mostly because of money. Most crates that I found of canape were in the 250K+ range, and ahrisa was much cheaper at only around 100K. Also, the ahrisa just seemed like a better deal anyone for normal mission grinding, because it lasts for 41 minutes or so vs. the 10 minutes that canape lasts. The +700 to focus that canape gives would be nice, though, and I may end up needed it after all if ahrisa and brandy with a set of ubese isn't enough to get my focus to 1200.

About powerups:
What are these powerups you speak of? (Looks like I need to do more research!) I can add a powerup to my rifle to lower the mind and raise the speed cost? Must be expensive, I'd imagine. (I'm sure vendors/merchants "imagine" this as well.)

About the exact focus cost needed:
So what was the final number? You need 1200, 1300, 1400 focus to spam specials? What number should I be targetting?

Sorry for any mispellings () in my post - I can't seem to figure out how to edit a post. Am I the only one that isn't a big fan of these forums?

The only 3 power-ups I'd concern myself with are these:

16% min/33% max damage (raises damage)- When at speed cap

Mind cost/Speed (lowers Mind costs and speed)- When levelling

Accuracy (raises accuracy)-When fighting defense stackers

I don't choose to use the Mind reducing power-ups at MR, but there's no reason why you can't if you find your rifle's Mind costs to be especially high.

As for Focus, I always thought the 'magic number' was 1400, but it's likely that it could be more/less depending on your rifle's Mind cost.

On Bloodfin, prices of powerups ranges from 2000-5000 for a crate of 10 depending on quality, number of mods (1 is min, 2 is standard, 3 is possible) and merchant.

If you have access to a factory, the best thing is to get some high OQ metal and chemical and have a master artisan make you a schematic.

Powerups wears down your weapon's conditionfaster.

i use ahrisa over canape when im hunting as the benefits of 40 min buffs vs 10 min buff is extreme. both take the same filling but canape wears off before a third of your stomach clears, with ahrisa your stomach is cleared for the most part by the time you need to take another. focus is the stat that determines ham cost of your specials, so ahrisa is the winning food for me.

the powerup for my preference is this

33 percent max damage/ 16 mind cost reduction/ 8 ideal range.

for grinding rifles i recommendusing

33 percent speed reduction/ min dam or speed and mind cost reduction

these cost around 3k per crate of 10.

it depends on the cost of your rifle but 1400 is a good one to shoot for as theres no cost at all from mind then. 2 brandys at 410 and 2 ahrisa at 410 = 1600 focus plenty enough to eliminate costs and still allow you to eat another food such as veghash for better harvest or synsteak for dam reduction

Yeah the cool thing about ahrisa is that it may only buff you for about 400, but it's effect last for 40 minutes and it doesn't stay in your stomach that long. This allows you to eat it ahead of time and keep the effect with an empty stomach.

If you have time for some pre-combat preparation, eat a portion of synthsteak beforehand to reduce damage taken, let your stomach empty, and then drop a portion of ahrisa a few minutes before combat, if you time it right, just before you fight you can pop 2 canapes and 2 brandies right before action, then just do your best to keep all of the foods/drinks topped up as often as possible.

That's the combo I like to use, obviously it only works if you have planning time beforehand, if not I just drop 2 brandies, an ahrisa and a canape, and get the second canape down as soon as possible.

This allows me to wander around shooting off my T21 like a complete madman without having to worry about the specials cost at all, and works a treat in pretty much all cases.
