Thread: My take on the proposed changes
i really hope they realize what a horrible idea a 3 sec speed cap would be, as it was pointed out spraysticks base speed is 2.x-1.x, and a good e11 can be sliced to lower than 3. the only way to make the new cap work would be to decrease the speeds of the rifles themselves. so basically nobody is gonna want to pick up a rifle.
and they didnt even mention the melee attack modifiers we suffer.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, Master Rifleman does not suck under the current system, the reason for this is because of the massive speed increase obtained at master. The proposed changes are going to reduce the bonus to speed we gain at master, while giving pistoleers double the DPS they currently have.
Riflemen is poor before master, good after because of the speed, when we lose the speed.....Can you now see why this hurts riflemen so much?
I've never been to these pages to check out professions..now when i first get here i hear 3.0 seconds for min speed...Are they seriouly crazy..We are one of the weakest, if not the weakest, combat professions...Im a master and this would just drive me crazy for pvp...we need something to help us not bring us down.
When have you ever heard someone complain about riflemen being to strong...never..its always another class...this just upsets me and im seriously going to chage my profession if in 1 month riflemen suck at pvp...
Why not become a commando or bh like the rest of the world !!!

I feel as though the combat designer is struggling to find some common factor to ranged and then basing all of his decisions off of that. But you cannot pick just one. How can you pick speed and not range? Give Pistoleer 6 times the speed? OK, and give them 16m range. Or -50 to hit. Obviously no one would be happy with that. Similarly, the combo thing will never work with rifleman because we wont be able to get more than 2 off before capping.
Bottom line: You cannot simply take one factor and differentiate us all based upon it. And that simplistic quick fix is PRECISELY the kind of approach that will/has killed this game.
PhiSig brings up a point that I think we need to make them aware of. I was thinking about this last night..With a 6:1 shot ratio & ourquestionable accuracy, we would end up having a REAL hard time in groups.
I don't know about you guys, buy I have missed three shots in a row.. That would give a pistoleer 18 potential hits to my three. They will be smoking mobs in a group. Even ifdamage for pistols was reduced and rifles increased, if you miss your one shot...There would be what, an overall 6:1 ratio of pistol xp vs rifle? (I know thats an exaggeration, but still.)
Many Riflemanbelow 1 0 3 2 are having a seriouschallenge in groups now.
And suggesting we be prone in PvP is just silly, that definitely need some serious looking at.

I think you're going to see pistol damage go down.
There's no way they can let pistols do today's damage, firing twice as fast as today. That would make Pistoleers more powerful than Commandos.
We'll just have to hope they have some sense and really redo all the weapons and specials and not just another half-baked job.

By the way, I just added this to my post on the dev thread, along with the notes above..
"In PvP, any state effects that could be generated by BH, Carbineer, Fencer, Swordsman, TKA or Pistoleer specials (which I don't think pistoleers have any, but just to be thorough) would have many more opportunities to land on a rifle or pike wielding target before they have an opportunity to retaliate (in the event the Rifleman misses with his first shot, which is very unlikely to stop an attacker anyway). And regardless of what benefits cover provides, suggesting we be prone in PvP is questionable, that definitely need some serious looking at.
Also, the only real close range weapon Riflemen have is the Spraystick, which has an ideal range somewhere around 30. This weapon comes with a delay of 2.0, pre-slice. This already was a VERY situational weapon, as using Riflemen's specials at that speed would deplete your mind at a suicidal rate. A 3 second cap renders this weapon totally useless."
Anybody disagree with the above statments?
Its disheartening to see Silverlobo being pessimistic, the guy seems to know a whole bunch about combat.
....BUT, I've not lost faith. I've never seen rifleman as a gimp class (I've been it since Day 1, and I'm nowa master), and I don't think they'll gimp us now. I do believe that a Bounty Hunter vs. a Rifleman/Doctor, Rifleman/Combat Medic, Rifleman/Architect, SHOULD win, they've invested more points into combat, you should do the same and become a rifleman/pistoleer, rifleman/some melee class if you want to compete. And trust me, you WILL compete if you do. BH isn't the only template that works in PvP, its just the easiest.
Think about it fellas, the guy is aware that 90% of his job is balancing combat. If he throws the pistoleers a bone, he's going to have to either take one away, or give the other classes one as well. Also consider his recent announcements are a PRODUCT of classes feeling they have no class distinction. At master, the only difference between a pistoleer/carbineer/rifleman is the type of damage we do. We all fire at the same rate, for about the same damage. I welcome some class distinction where either pistoleers will do less damage at a higher rate, or rifleman will do more damage at a slower rate.
Sometimes I wonder about the mental states of so many players who complain that their class is underpowered. Let me ask:
Do you count your defeats much more than your victories? Did you kill a couple guys, and then the third got you, and you felt that was unfair?
Are your skill points dedicated to combat before you complain?
Are you aware of who exactly killed you, when you're not a master (perhaps a master pistoleer killed you while you are a novice)?
Did the person kill you while you were disadvantaged? Was he buffed while you were caught unaware?
Does your server have T21s? If you don't, can you honestly blame the class before the evil devs have let you feel the power of AP 3?
Have you considered that the person playing the<fill in profession here> that killed you was simply better/smarter than you?
Consider these the next time you get beat. If any are true, then here's some advice:
Play smarter, play harder, play more, and you'll do better. Don't run straight at a bounty hunter, don't run away from a pistoleer, don't go near a commando, etc..., etc... You'll learn these things as you participate in more PvP.

I think you are right Pecos. But with all the existing weapons in the game,which would be unbalanced in a post-proposed changes world, and the huge stockpiles, the changes would only have a positive effect if they took them away, which they won't do.
To REALLY fix it going forward with immediate efficacy, the Devs would have to change thespeed variableon all wpn schematics, not on skills. You change the skills with the existing weapons, and it is tantamount to disaster for all non-pistoleers.
Even then, it will probably take a year of playing time before all of the old weapons die out.
