Thread: No need to lower HAM cost on specials
**edit**, I go through Mind like mad when I'm spamming specials. It's so bad that I almost never use my specials in PvP except when shooting large groups or ambushing. I have never out lasted a Pistoleer in an endurance contest.
There has got to be something going on that we can't see because this is completely the opposite of everything I've experienced. I'd like to compare the stats on your rifle because it sounds like you got one built specifically for low HAM costs. Most take the high damage route but if you had a slower/low cost rifle I could see how HAM usage would be low but you have to be suffering somewhere else(damage). Either way there has to be something fairly unique happening.
Hate to tell yah Qwadd but you are definately in the moniority on this one.
Furthermore I'm pretty stunned that your able to get your cost down to 70, but even then I dont see how you are spamming endlessly... in fact I outright dont believe you.
I can get off about 5 mindshots and I have maxed mental stats as a human. Furthermore I dont want to hear any of this BH underhand shot bull**edit**. The stamina pool can be stimmed where we get screwed with the only unhealable stat pool.
It's not so much themind use for me, it's having to waita long time for my mind to come back, or having to use spice, which in turn increases my down time. I think high HAM costs are a good limiter on our damage at master, but the regen is just too slow for my liking.
Hi Tezctlpoca ,
Thanks for calling me an idiot and a jackass. I'll put that flame to rest and wish you nothing but the best of success in SWG. I hope the wealth, fame and XP come easily to you my friend.
Back to HAM costs...I will reduce my willpower to 500 tonight, and test it out tomorrow when it reaches that mark. I haven't had it maxed for long (I was using my T21 before I maxed it), and I don't recall any mind issues.
In fact, I'm sitting here at work with another guy I play with, and he cant really believe the heat on this topic either. He's a pistoleer, and his HAM pools drain faster than mine. I usually have to heal HIM up with the mind reserves I have left.
I will report back my findings tomorrow folks....cause I know I'm in the minority on this one.
Anyways, happy gaming tonight.
I don't use powerups that lower HAM.
I'm a maxed out Mon Cal (950 mind, 800 focus, 650 willpower if I remember correctly) and my mind goes down fast unless I'm on Muon.
I don't use armor either.
Maybe you're:
1. Slow as all hell.
2. Bugged.
im a human with mind pools maxed as well (but oh BOY does my action take one HELL of a beating)
but thats okay. we dont have t-21's yet on tarq, but hunting with my laser and my dlt 20, i can fire for a good bit before my mind goes away.
i dont really use spice when hunting with friends, the downtime sucks. (unless they use it too. then its okay cause everyone is hurting=)). i do eat food tho. not very good food, (i cant craft but those biscut thinggies)
Master Rifleman
Human - 1100/600/600
Laser Rifle sliced with 32% speed powerup 16% mind, 31% damage slice - 52-510 4.0as 50 mind cost
I only really use stafe shot 2, and at 600 focus, it takes about 91 mind each. What I usually do before I PvP or high level faction missions, is drink some Caf, which adds +100 to focus. I can drink 5 of those at a time, and last for 6 minutes. There is then a big reduction in myspecials cost, about 40 each. I can also eat2 Teltier noodles, which increase willpower.
Combine those with Muhon gold, andI'm looking at 1600/1600/1300. Specials all cost < 10 mind each. I can spam strafe shot 2, and never see my mind bar drop at all. I am very happy with the way rifleman is right now. Find some food and drink, and stop complaining like a bounty hunter.
I also created a macro to warn me one minute before my muhon gold wears off. That allows me time to find a safe spot to rest. The downtime for Muhon Gold is 3 minutes minus regen time.
Maybe it's just because I'm a Mon Cal Civic, but all that is overkill.
If I pop a Muon Gold my mind goes up over time, even if I'm spamming HS3 with my T-21 (150 mind cost w/o buff.)
I don't need all that food and drink.
The point is though that pistoleers caribineers etc. don't need to do that. You don't see a pistoleer pop a pixie constantly because of his HAM costs. Even if they get to be bad he can just use a stim. Maybe you're used to using Muon and food, and don't mind the inconvenience, but we're the ONLY ranged class that has to go to those lengths.
Please dont' compare other classes that use health and action cost for special moves to rifleman....MIND use is just plain killer, and unless we are fighting other rifleman or eyeshot, we kill ourselves more than anything else in PvsP (personal opinion)
You think the costs for BH's, carbineers, or pistoleers is on par with a rifleman, it's not even close. Using doc buffs I can buff folks and myself for over an additional 2000 to health and action, in addition to substat buffs over 1000, and they last for hours as long as you don't die. There is nothingthat buffs the mind like that. Muon is great, my Twi Lek has become a crack whore but whenshe is down she is DOWN. Musician buffs, uh please sit and watch for 15 mins for half an hour of buffing and it's not even THAT great.
Our mind use issues are valid, they should be lowereda tad oradjusted. Am I asking for more mind buffing techniques, uh no, that is what we kill, but the fact we kill ourselves more than any other classand creat our own NEED for down time iswrong.
Do thesimple math, a H/A cost user with 3000H and 1500+ subs and 3000A and 1500 subs vs the best buffed rifleman....rifleman may win once...but in10 mins your toast or hiding.Anyone else can pretty much spam away with whatever specials they wantand though they will takedamage they willnot causeTHEMSELVES to have to take a break. And if you didn't get it the first time, THERE IS NO DOWNER INVOLVED and DOC BUFFS LAST HOURS.
Well enough of my rant, my achilles heel willbe my 1100 mind 500 focus and willpower...but I agree with AA,we are due for an adjustment.
As a master doc, ive seen just what doc buffs can do for BHs... when i buff my friend they end up with 2k+ health/action and an average of 1300 or so substats. that being said i have yet to see any of my friends that uses a carbine or pistol get more than a -10 over their head while firing, its usual -1 threw -4...which gets regenerated almost instantly. Me on the other hand, im stuck watching my mind bar go down, and down, and down, with numbers from -40(bowcaster) to -80 threw -101 over my head. Im a wookie with 1100 mind, 650 Focus, and 600 will. so they spam specials for 5 min and their bars are still full, mean while after the 1st 1-2 targets im sittin on my but for the next 3-5 while they keep on spaming and gettting exp. Granted i could use regular shots but i find im better off waiting on my mind for specals and i dont waste powerups.
Now granted elite entertainers can buff mind stats but it only last as long as you watch them...waist 10 min inthe cantina, buffs gone in 10 min...most people done even know it exists its so bad of a buff.
My mind certainly doesn't go up over time with Muon Gold spamming HS3.. it goes down, how high is your speed up from the rifleman tree? I'm shootingHS3 every 4-5 secondswith 65% in speedups and a 5 second delay T-21. If I were a master rifleman shooting once per second it would go down even faster.. at this point HS2 keeps about even, but HS3 is ridiculously more mind usage for only a little bit more damage.. HS2 is a good shot when you get it, but sadly outdated when you move up the rifleman tree... to the point where you can damage healthas fast as you can damage mindwhen you hit master rifleman. HS3 is a programming error.. about 10% more damage for > 50% more mind cost.. someone was asleep at the wheel there and those numbers were probably meant to be the inverse (50% more damage, 10% more cost). HS3 is simply a special shot that needs to be fixed... like surprise shot, and like the specials of many other classes too. Currently HS3 is simply a waste of an ability.
