Thread: How do Riflemen like the CU?
not verymuch right now.
due to cover being borked to hell and back. i really only have two specials. Startleshot, and headshot. and startleshot seems to have lost a lot of effectiveness lately.
I have seen all these comments on the Cover/Conceal/Sniper shot but you have all missedone vital factor.
The Requierments for these moves are Utterly insane...!!
1. No Players/Pets/NPC's/Creatures within 30m "OK thats a Given, though they could remit the players & Pet part in groups".
2. No Mounts of any Kind within 30m....."thats Just Unfair".
3. To conceal shot or Sniper from Prone or from Cover, You "MUST be on 100% flat Ground".
If you are on a Surface that you think is flat, but there is a Slight Raise in the ground "even a few Centeremeters", Cover/Conceal/Sniper "WILL NOT WORK".
If you are on the side of a hill looking up or down Cover/Conceal/Sniper "WILL NOT WORK".
4. Line of Sight...."well I'm OK with this one. I have always thaught Line of sight should be part of SWG".
But the Rules on wherea MASTER Rifleman can or cannot take cover or Shoot from, need to be Overhauled "MASSIVELY".
Heh Try telling a RL Sniper he cant Use the side of a hill or treetop or Bump in the ground to take cover in. He'll prolly Slap you.
Last time I was on I noticed if I masked scent, then did dive shot to prone the creature would charge me and stop a little before it arrived. I could warm sniper shot and get it off then with no problem. I've done quite a few times now and it hasn't failed. So I have basically been doing dive to sniper in sequence. When I want or need to get up I just kip shot.
This works wonders with melee mobs because as long as I don't get up they stay away.

I've said from a long time back (pre-CU) that rifle deserves better mob control, now with this CU we need it even more. Moreso than carabineers, who now have the best damage shot. Either that or return our T21's to high damage.
At lest we should have ranged deathblow returned.
They aren't almost useless, they are useless. they are bugged right now. Thats why.

I'm certain you get a certain amount of free shots before your target "finds" you if you're prone and maskscented from a sufficient distance. In that situation, /cover and /conceal offer no advantage at all; you do more damage before discovery using other specials.
What I'm not certain of is what happens if you're prone and distant, but NOT maskscented. Do the mobs find you immediately? If so that would give Conceal Shot some tiny PvE usefulness to Riflemen without maskscent. Though I'd argue still not enough to justify the skill points.
I've been playing with cover and conceal shot and it looks like the Devs took the cheap way out on breaking cover.
First, mobs can ALWAYS see you under cover. They know exactly where you are. You conceal shot them, they dart towards you ten meters and stop. If that "breaks" cover (gets within 15 to 20 meters) then they'll rush you. If not, they'll stop. You conceal shot them again, they'll do the dart and stop. I've been using it at close range (35 meters) because I was getting pistol XP. I tend to get off two conceal shots, a stopping shot, a sniper shot, then I'm up and moving.....
But I've noticed something -- sometimes, for no reason known to man, a concealed shot will aggro the WHOLE nest, who all seem to know where you are. I've been aggroed by a mob 65 meters away when I conceal shot the mob 30 meters away. The close one didn't see me. The far one darted sixty meters, broke my cover, and attacked me. It "knew" where I was.
It gets better. I teamed up with another rifleman -- we were under cover and shooting the same mob. I was 30 meters away, he was 55. I was using a Power5 pistol, he was using his t21. After the third shot (me one, him two) the mob darted straight towards him -- went 40 meters, passed about 10 meters from me, and broke HIS cover. Not mine. I was closest. I had shot last. Yet the mob went STRAIGHT towards the highest damage dealer and broke his cover -- just like the hate system demands.
In short, cover has NOTHING to do with "how close they are" except that if you're close enough, cover breaks automatically and they attack you. Instead, it appears that it's under either a timer of some sort or a weighted dice roll -- no matter how FAR away you are, after a certain point the mob will beeline you and break your cover. It uses it's "hate" system to determine which one.
Time after time, the mobs would break my friend's cover instead of mine, even though I was closer, because my friend was drawing more "hate".
