Thread: Every class has its weakness

I agree that every class has its weakness. But some classes have great strengths to overcome those weaknesses, while others do not. I agree that rifleman is one of the few classes that are working properly, and I dont call for a nerf of them. However, I do have a problem with their speed. Sorry, but i have to say it. Rifles should deal the most damage out of pistols, rifles and carbines. But they should also do it at a slower speed than the other two. That is only logical, so that the DPS of all 3 is about even. The fact that a Master rifleman has way better speed mods than a master carbineer is ridiculous. While i understand ure point that it is more constructive to try and get ure own prof fixed rather than trying to nerf another, in this particular situation, that is not possible. Why u ask? Bc even if carbs is fixed so that it shoots at the speed cap, it will still only be as fast as a Master rifleman shoots. This is just wrong, as pistols, and to a lesser extent carbs, should both shoot faster than a rifle. I think just about every prof in the game agrees with me on that one, except, ofcourse, rifleman.

Hmm, seeing as how most other combat professions get natural KD defenses and we have absolutely 0, you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you should shut your **edit**ing face and think a minute before you start calling other people "moron."

If you're talking about master riflemen... well whatever. Their game is over, they aren't having fun PvEing or anything because they can't get any more XP. They just PvP and gain nothing from it, and have to spend money on buffs and stimpacks. getting to master rifleman is a huge grind as rifleman is the most PvE unfreindly combat class in the game, while other professions XP up faster and much more enjoyably without the frustration of being useless at close range ... when 99% of the mobs are melee and close on you in 4 seconds if you start at 64 meters.

OMG harpoon is back lol and he still hasnt a clue about rifles....

There are several bugs in the system that make rifleman seem overpowered, bugs that where intended to keep rifleman in par etc.

1) Human stat migration, Once human rifleman can no longer have 1100, 1100, 800 in mind pools they will not be nearly as deadly.

2) Removing the 2.5 dmg modifier caused rifleman to have insane defences, its a bug, devs have stated it, and are looking into it.

3) PSG, yes folks they are buggy as hell, you can get a PSG that has 40%ish to stun, and energy, this really hurts rifleman's damage bad.

4) Rifleman's weakness is KD, you will see alot more people falling on the ground when they fix Carb's area KD.

5) Stacking defencive modifiers, like defence vs KD, I have no idea if this was intended or not, but it allows rifleman to patch thier intendede weeknesses.

Once these items are adressed, I Think rifleman will be exactly where they where intended to be, and cries for nerf are just stupid until they fix the bugs.

Where in the hell did you come from you troll Manimal. Good lord, he made a point, that hehas trouble defending against kd/dizzy, so what? Go troll another board and leave your attitude at the door to our forum.

Last night, I dueled a master bounty hunter. I was fully buffed. He landed a kd/dizzy on me and it was all over. 10 secs, done.

Apophiswas just making a point that he loses to an attack that we, as riflemen posting to our riflemen board, cannot do.

The combat revamp will (hopefully) fix the riflemen melee bug, the CM distance bug, increase pikeman's accuracy, fix the specials for carbiner, andstop folks from being able to shoot through the floor of bases. If they get all that done, I think folks will realize that riflemen are vulnerable gunners that deal a lot of damage but can't take a lot, just like we should be.

I agree with most things you posted there except for the part about skillpoints. Somehow you seem to think its good that we can suplement our carbine/pistol skills with either getting BH or smuggler, but shouldn't doing so give us an definitive advantage over a pure rifleman since we do spend almost all of our skillpoints by doing so? Now its more like a BH/Carbineer is pretty much as good as just a pure rifleman that spends alot less skillpoints thus being able to spend them on some other prof, like CM or Doc. In my opinion there should be some profession that riflemen would have to dabble in to get the most out of their weapons, just like carbineers/pistoleers have to do at the moment.

I hope you don't take this as some sort of nerf cry for riflemen since I pretty much like them the way they are, the nerf herders should go back and try to get their own professions fixed instead of trying to ruin the game for others who actually got working professions.

No, Cairn, I was not saying it was "good" to in the sense that you should have to. My point is that you can, and Riflemen cannot. Rifleman is a stand alone profession in the sense that once you get Rifleman, you cannot supplement rifleman skills by going to another skill set. Yes, you can add TK, or Swordsman, or Pistol, or Carbines, or whatever you want, but that is adding, at best, complementary skills, not adding directly to what you can do with your chosen weapon. That being the case, Rifles should have some additional"power" in and of itself to compensate for the fact that there is no place else to go.

But Rifleman also has weaknesses that all those individual skill sets can exploit. BHs can attack mind without using mind, which Riflemen not only attack, but also use. Carbineers, Pistoleers, and Smugglers all can KD. Not only do Riflemen have no KD themselves, it takes little more than a gentle breeze to knock us down. We have only Dizzy and Stun, for status effects, and we have virtually no defense against them. All the other professions get status effects to useagainst us. There are balances.

But I fully agree with you. Carbines need to be fixed. Pikeman needs to be fixed. The other professions need to be fixed, and the nerf herders need to go back and get that taken care of rather than seeking to weaken somewhat working professions.

If you wish to review a fairly level headed thread debating the 'uberness' of the RIfleman profession, i'd like to point you to this one, which took place on the Tempest forums last week:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=Tempest&message.id=70571

i still hold firm that rifleman ON IT'S OWN is not overpowered at all. it's dabbled, stacked, rich, skill-taped rifleman/fencer/tka's who make our profession seem so scary. and in that case, it is only fair to compare a 250 combat point toon against other 250 SP combat toons -

and after a LOT of PVP against these toons i can honestly say that rifle really isn't any more uber than the next 250 point super stacker.

at that level of pvp, the winner will be the one who knows his profession the best, knows the weaknesses of the professions/toons he's facing, and has a better sense of timing (and has better weapons/powerups/food/drugs/drinks/buffs/armor, etc).

there are FAR too many variables to base a profession nerf on ingame experiences against certain toons that play that profession. On tempest, there a super-player/toon for every combat profession - a player who is very highly respected for their toon's skill level - yes- even a pikeman toon who kicks ass (as much as a pikeman can at this point). each one excels in certain situations/environments, and rifleman is no exception.
