Thread: IC 1-12: Combat Roles; Rifleman *TIME TO RALLY*
yeah, i know in the end we may very well take it up the back end..
like i've mentioned in other threads - i'm not all that afraid of a nerf, and really don't care either way, there's good points and bad points to any nerf.
that said, i post my ideas and opinions 'cause it can't hurt to have some voice of opposition.
There's some really good ideas / discussion going on in there at the moment... I put in my small amount of Ideas and agreed points... The first few posts said pretty much what I wanted to anyway ![]()
What I found really entertaining was that some guy last night posted a "Flame" in there and by this morning his post was gone...
WOOT!.. that was sweet ![]()

well Klaw, i'm sure you know all the obvious arguments against a nerf to our speed..
1. we use unhealable pool - and even with 1100 human focus (i would love to see other races brought up to this) it's tough to sustain a lot of specials without food/buffs/drugs, and that is an EXPENSIVE habbit.
1.5.pretty hard to wear armor when you can barely get by with specials on food/buffs/drugs as it is...
I don't know how other professions expect non-humans to play rifleman, seems like an exercise in frustration to me...
1.5b - migrating the stats to max focus/mind (on human and other species) reduces the rest of our pools to the point where we NEED food and doc buffs in order to shoot more than a couple specials without stimming ourselves constantly!
2. unless we dabble, a dizzy/KD will kick our collective asses.
3. we have NO status shots other than 'stunned' status. AP/Speed/Dmg/mindshots balance our mind cost/frailty to KD+melee - and we have less accuracy while moving than the other ranged professions.
3.5 If we're blinded (which is easy to do) we are FAR less accurate - taking away our greatest advantage - accuracy and ability to deal dmg and adding to our already frail state.
all that aside, i don't see why it would be unfair to re-introduce the 2.5x melee penalty AT THE MASTER RIFLEMAN BOX (leave it off the rest of the rifle tree, this should only apply to masters) - it would ensure that melee absolutely kicks our hides and really forces us to keep our distance/play snipers/gunners that we are - no more running around like pistoleers on steroids.
that really is all that needs to be done, imo.

What I fear is they'll make us a harder hitting slower pistoleer, where all ranged classes pretty much do the same DPS, just depends on if you want to do it fast or slow.
I fear that also.. and the DPS would ring true apart from the 1 or 2 people on each Server that have the Uber Exeptional / Legendary loot drops.. Their DPS would be off the scale as oppsed to everyone elses..
It's going to be interesting to say the least

I never understood why they took it out when they did. Back when people (I was as well) were complaining about the 2.5x modifier what we were really demanding was a hiatus until they fix warping. Well warping is down about 95%. I haven't had a creature warp on me after my first shot in months, I haven't had a creature warp on me at all in weeks, a krayt did to a friend of mine but that's once out of how long. And this is the time that they choose to remove it. When it was affecting us and making it harder then necessary to level or even just survive in the game we had to grin and bear it knowing that the problem would eventually get fixed. Well it does and the 2.5x now only affects morons who don't swap out guns and what happens? They remove it for God only knows what reason. Bring it back and fix out melee defence which appears to be buggy and there you go we're pretty evened out.
Also I feel that we should be able to merge our two selves together in the profession and more or less keep it the way it is. We should have a "sniper rifle" and an "assault rifle". The sniper is just that, a beefed up T-21 with slower rate of fire. It'll be high armor piercing and all the good stuff you'd expect to carry to a grassy knoll. The assaultwill live up to it's nameas well. A modified carbine basically. Carabineers get to keep their state effects, KD, and whatever else they have/need/will get (I don't play one so no clue) and we get to keep our AoE attacks that will do roughly the same, maybe a bit lower DPS. To prevent this from overpowering us (after all just swap guns out and you're good at all situations) make the change time considerably slow. Going from sniper rifle to another should take 5-6 seconds and going from any other weapon to the sniper rifle should take 5-6 seconds as well. Tweak the numbers a bit and wah la, we are viable in both roles we get labeled as. You just have to tailor the gun to it.

( Hehe.. nice name by the way! )
I do believe you are right, the 2.5x melee penalty was taken away to "balance" out the warping issue in my opinion. I too have not noticed much if any warping lately, though it can be hard to tell at times, I play from Australia so my ping times are more than double compared to the rest of you. I used to get warped on all the time while climbing the tree but after the warping issue was fixed it is so much better.. even for the likes of me. Although I still thing Jeisyn has the right idea if the Professions stays as is.. and that is the 2.5x penalty should only come into play either at Master or very close to Master. Mainly to balance out the Carnage you can cause from range as a Master Sharpshooter. We all know the difference between 4/4/4/4 and Master is immense ![]()

Right now rifleman have the ability to exceed the pistoleer DPS by almost double at master rifleman, almost 4x if you add master marksman on that too. This granted a rifleman who knows what they are doing and what thier speed is vs what speed/damage gun they need to pull off this kind of damage. With a few rifle speed tapes its even worse, with my rifle speed mods and my guns I can average... well a lot of damage.
I really think a large Assault typeRifle should do more damage per second that a Pistol, it should fire at a higher ratein most cases ( the exception being a slow but powerfulSniper Rifle ) and it should be more accurate. All of which we are capable of doing.. There shouldn't be an argument here... but there is of course ![]()
I don't know enough about firearms to back up my assumptions, though I do know a few of my fellow Rifleman are weapons guru's who may hopefully read this and feel the need to verify my assumptions.. hehe!
