Thread: Rifleman = Gimped
/clap for Karo
Yay! You sussed it!
I was disappointed with my combat performance as an aspiring rifleman until my friend who is working up the Doctor tree pointed out that Medics & Doctors can't heal mind damage or wounds. Against NPCs and mobs, this might not be a huge advantage, but in PvP the rifleman is going to be the one to fear!!!
Eyeshot is a BH pistol skill that does mnd damage. Not only does it do mind dmage, it doeas MORE of it than headshot and also causes blindness.
I'm the Pistoleer Zariell was fighting..
Opening of the duel, we started at his max range..
headshot 3 for 1800 damage, I absorbed like 1000 of it.
Then 4 Bodyshot2s he was incapacitated.
I'm switchng to rifle ATM, but not dropping pistol for a while to come.. Quite frankly rifles DPS is sad.
DPS on the best T21 I saw was 50.. DPS on my pistol is 71 or 72. That's **edit**ed up.. Considering I'm using a scout blaster.
Uuuugh lets not get mired in arguements amongst ourselves ... there are things that are seriously broken with this class and need fixing ASAP .
Most noticeably we shoot at the same range any other class does , we have fewer EFFECTIVE special moves .
Of the three gun classes Rifleman is BY FAR the weakest and needs serious work . We do damage to the mind pool ... yup . We do .
So does the BH , with Eye Shot . Eyeshots hit for 500 - 800 damage to mind . You can blast off an Eye Shot every second or two with the right weapon and skills .
So our advantages are ?????
The disadvantages are obvious .
Level up some more guys.
AOE 1500 damage is soooo nice.
Nothing like one shotting an entire group.
Here's my 2 cents.. ![]()
I use a rifle to solo so I can gather resources for bio-eng and do quite well with it - so much so that I recently got enough rifle exp to become a rifleman. Riflemen have some unique abilities that you are ignoring that come in very handy in other situations. All you are focusing on is PvP, duels and DPS... well, if you're wanting to duel or fight pvp without support then rifleman probably isn't the profession you want to be.
Bounty Hunters have to master a lot more skils to become a Bounty Hunter than someone needs to master to become a Rifleman, so I would EXPECT that they should have those type of abilities.
You say you don't see the point in the posture changing positions - I say you should play around with them more. There are times when it is very handy, like making an enemy NPC stand up when they are prone shooting a rifle at you, or making a brawler type kneel so they lose time trying to get to you... etc.
There is a lot of potential for the profession depending how you look at it.
You're not a "tank", you're not a "one-on-one" (unless they are an artisan with no weapon or melee skills, just kidding)... If you are hoping to go out and solo a bunch of people and win consistantly in PvP good luck. Bring friends and be their long range support. If you want higher DPS learn to use a pistol or become a bounty hunter or something... I know some people probably thought they'd be a 1-shot sniper taking out everyone in sight before they could close in on you, sorry it isn't working out that way for you.
I'm having fun with it and it works for the way I play. If it isn't working for your stylemaybe you should try a different profession.
Vad does have it right..
In major PVP battles heres how it'll be
Pistoleer = Cannon Fodder
Carbineer = Cannon Fodder
Sorry, it's true.. read their descriptions.. they're built to be front line fighters
Riflemen = Support (You take out medics and enemy riflemen)
Combat Medics = Support
etc..
Finally someone gets it!!
We are meant for ranged support where PvP is involved. It is a constant argument i try to get across to everyone that misunderstands the benefits of a rifleman.
In our specific role, inregards PvP, we are extremly dangerous. As it should be. You have to play your character the way it is supposed to be played.
PvP has changed and with it we have to as well. A rifleman shall be no good in Melee yet from a distance we shall be the dangerous.
Havign said that, playing a rifleman in PvE can suck at times. I dont proclaim to know everything but i do know this.
A suggestion for all. Its what i have done and it has helped me alot. Pick up a little Pistol, enough to get a Scout Blaster. I use this only when i am in a situation i cant get out of and also when i am running between missions. It helps alot. I was finding half the problem of a rifleman was getting from one mission to the next.
Having a pistol that does some fairly good damage is pretty handy while you are running, how many times have you been running with your rifle equiped to find you stop, fire, miss cause you are to close, then get smacked in the head with a hammer, having a pistol in these situations is very good. When you get to your missions, use your abilitiesto there best possibilites.
However, having said all that, having only RIfle as the one skill, is pretty lame as it can only be used for one instance. You do need a back up.
Myself i am Rifleman / Ranger with a splash of Two Hand Swords &Pistols.
Pistols for when i am running missions or too far to use my swords.
Swords for when i am in Melle Range
Rifle for when i am at my best.
Ranger for the camo and terrain benefits as well as the creautre knowledge.
Anarchy Online release I was an agent.. Up close we'd get massacred..
But from afar with our aimed shot? I could drop a level 200 atrox enforcer who was fully buffed in one hit.. (Hell he could do it to me, too, I assure you..lol)
You're deadly from afar, and vulnerable in close. And as far as PvE, this class isn't as good as my pistoleer, no.. But it isn't horrible either.. For PvE I use a spraystick (160 damage, 2.0 speed unsliced) cause I can get off a lot more shots a lot faster in groups with my PA-mates that way. I can keep up with my pistol like that, and ONLY like that.
