Point made, you guys whine too much, I'm sticking with pistol
Just when I think Chunky finally makes a good post, I reply and then read this. Shutup, Chunky, Master Gunfighter probably stinks cuz you do.

I like the last input and the first few respronses to the thread, but the "whiny" remark was directed at one person. Now an immature remark is directed at another.
I have multiple weapons and traps (as well as other useful things) in keybindings so split second decisions aren't that big of a deal. I also come from "twitch" games (ie. first person shooters), so that's helped me a lot. As ranger my group relies on me a lot for stratagy and quick tactic changes which is one reason I love my pistol...it suits my personality. But I am mainly PvE, and the lack of range is definatly a drawback. If I ever decide on PvP, I would choose pistol hands down but would also drop ranger for SL. Love the hunt, don't mindthe death, but hate the run back.
"critters like to change targets to the person that deals the highest oneshot damage"
eh? creatures stick to a pet or any melee characterlike glue... this isn't eq.

Like the Rebel with faction pet that was running by and attacked my Imperial target before I had fully healed. They were both ranged. They got the health bar down about 10%, so in retaliation I lunge to the ground, whip out my 600 max damage laser rifle and fire off a head shot 3, hitting for about 2000 after AP.
Yup, you guessed it - the Imp started shooting at *me* even though my "fellow" Rebel and his pet continued thier pistol barage.
I'm not sure how this would have been affected in all situations, like with melee attackers, but it's worth pointing out that it happens.

It has been my experience that a creature will switch targets during combat. I'm not sure if it's based on one-shot damage as suggested above or damage per second or whatever. I am a Creature Handler/Rifleman (a great combo in PvE if you all haven't tried it yet)
Denzien is right about this, I was about to make a similar post after last nights experience.
I was part of a group fighting an Imp NPC base, watching the AT-ST lumber into view I very purposely let the 2 Commandos light it up and inflict probably 5% damage before opening fire, one FlurryShot1 with my T21 and it is straight on my case. Luckily I was max range so fell back and healed while others kept firing, return to the battle at 25% damage, another Flurry1 and yep guess who takes the incap.
IMO there is either a Max Damage calculation going on or pehaps our melee penalty is screwed somehow and we are being treated as doing melee somehow for agro purposes.
Chunky...
Rifleman is a kick. Keep in mind that I don't PvP, but lots of solo PvE and sometimes in groups. I get home from work, eat some dinner, get the kiddo to bed, talk to the wife a bit (seems women need conversation), turn on the flat screen, and away we go for 1-2 hours of stress relief!
Seriously, though, I started as scout and began master marksman. I saved rifles til last cause I didn't know or understand them. Easier as a noob to stand there with a pistol and pull the trigger. But eventually there was that rifle tree as the last thing between me and master marksman. **edit**!
"...Oh well, guess I better do it ...Hey,this isnt as bad as I thought ...wish I had a more powerful rifle ...Hmmm,this DLT20A isnt too bad! ..I'll work harder and get me a Laser rifle, that sounds cool. ...WOW! this laser rifle kicks some azz! ...Hey, I made master marksman, and actually enjoyed it! ...What should i do next? Well, what did I enjoy the most so far? You know, I actually had a lot of fun with rifles! Maybe I'll try that rifleman tree..."
And I've never looked back.
I love trying to find the toughest critters for my level...
I love scoping out the nest to find the "path of least warpability" to each animal
I love deciding which rifles andwhich sequence of shots I'll try
I love succeeding on my own skills without a pet or buffs or spices
I love it when I DO use buffs and spices and kick major azz caus I feel like it.
I may be crap compared to BH or Commando in PvP, but right now I dont care... not my "thing".
Come on in and try the water... you may find you like it!
WayneInAustin, I couldn't agree with you more. I wish you were on my server I would love to join you on a hunt! I enjoy being a riflemen, even with all the bugs I enjoy the challenge of taking down high level creatures without the aid of pets.
I like to scout out my target get into postion patently wait until the critter moves away from the herd. Then attack! I have taken out Rancors, Mereks death head. Juvenile Krayt and Kimos and many 45cl+ critters with out assistance from pets or other critters in the area and I'm only a 1 0 0 1 riflemen.
I refuse to use pets just me and my trusty selection of rifles, and my scout pistol when they get too close. Rifle just fits my play style..
Now there are a lot of things wrong with our profession, and you'll get a TON of it by reading this board. But I'm here to say that so far I enjoy being a riflemen. And good luck if you decide to become one of us
