Thread: Rifleman & Armor
i have ditched my composite long ago and use skill enhanced clothing and PSGinstead. its a much much much better and wiser choice.
ANY armor will unfortunately hamper you as a rifleman because mindpool isnt healable unlike the otehr 2 pools, even after the mind stims go live i cant imagine any combat medic repeatedly wounding himself til he keels over to keep up your mindpool.
800 willpower, 700 focus + clothing rocks.
there is ONE armor in game that has zero mind encumbrance except for the helm.
if you go kill nightsisters on Dathomir, they drop shards that are -13 action -13 mind costs as well as other ones, but the ones you are after are any with -mind on them.
once you obtain enough of these, ask a friendly master armorsmith to use them and make you various pieces of Mabari Armorveave, and let him know specifically you want these to be lowest possible mind encumbrance. with that and a slice you can get armor tahts almost next to zero encumbrance, except the helm of course.
any other armor seems to do more harm then good for riflemen it seems.
the 2.5 melee multiplier is horrible, i ate it in one shot in my composite same as in my clothing, it made zero practical difference.
sorta off topic but:
are shield generators worth it for PvE or only PvP?
and if so:
what are good stats for one?
Thanks

Hows this- I'm a master rifleman, and teras kasi 4 1 4 3 (and rising). Go find an armorsmith who actually gives a crap about true armor, nice, custom suit, pay a good 200k for it, get all but the helm, trust me you wont need the helm (only other riflemen target the mind, well, besides BHs, but you can take those down easy).
On with the armor specs. I'mma trandoshan, boots/gloves I cant wear naturally. Still, get a full suit minus the helm if race permits of course. I have a suit that totals only 300 health, 230 action, 130 mind encumberance, with 55% resist or higher on all the pieces. Heres a tip when buying armor- dont use vendors, ever. They sell crap that arent personalized to your specific needs. Talk to a master armorsmith, put in an order for a good set, spend the cash its well worth it. As for skill attachments? I have a shirt, belt, and bandolier, all with four slots. I've only managed to find just enough to fill the belt, thats 8 more sockets to go. You can even put on a swoop helm or something for another 4.
Last tip- buffs can be your friends. I, using powerboost (teras kasi skill) can get my HAM a good +500, lasts 10 minutes, instantly reuseable. No ingrediants no doctors to pay, easy as pie. Of course not everyone chooses to spend weeks working on dreaded unarmed xp, and for those of you that dont, either become a doctor/smuggler of sorts and supply yourself with as much spice/buffs as needed, or just buy them from people. Well, thats all I can think of at the moment. Just get some low encumberance, 55-60% composite, trust me its worth your while.
I use bone armor that I make myself with 9 artisan experimentation points, putting 1/2 of them into encumbrance. I wear all the pieces except bracers and chestplate and my willpower is still 550 (Mon Cal), add some food and it's 600 easy (when they fix the big of course). Bone armor only protects against energy, but whenI get hit I notice the armor absorbs around 50%-60%. Pretty handy when doing faction bases. I always wear armor now and use weapon power-ups that reduce mind cost.
Anything less and your not optimal.
PSG's are not working properly with armor currently, but pop one on anyhow. They will catch the odd shot.
Also in open PvP _do_ wear a composite or at very least a acid speced chittin helmet. Otherwise eyeshot spammers will wipe you out in second.
Been playing around a little, here are 3 options, most have been mentioned.
Ultimate PVP
Full composite huge resist (layerd) with full buffs and sheild gen = One man killer. Ever see 2-3 people take out 7-10? Thats how they do it (and some good fighting skills).
Awsome Bone armor has very low encumbrance and over 50% energy resists. Probably the best armor for shooting up NPC people that shoot back, and a sheild get would be nice.
Bio enhanced clothing, and a sheild gen. Very light on encumbrance and still adds to your stats for protection. Probably not the best in huge PVP, but for most other things you can make this work very well.
Ultimatly, play with everything and every combination. You will find what suits you and your style.
High-end armors have too much encumbrance to be practical without massive buffs, low-end armors have too many vulnerabilities.
Boneprotects against energy so it's decent forNPC hunting.
Mabari won't do much for your survivability in melee with the 2.5x melee multiplier and it won't protect against energy.
Shield generators have low durability and break really fast so they're not really practical for PVE unless you have an armorsmith friend who can give you crates of them.
For PVP, I wear a composite helmet to protect against eyeshot spam and a shield gen to protect against everything else. Full composite would work nicely if you had doctor and entertainer buffs.
