I have a question. Why are you trying to play a RANGED profession like you would a MEELE profession? Just curious. Is it because you want to see how well they tank with armor and buffs or what? Or is it because you are just so used to playing a brawler class that you dont want to have to relearn how to play with a new profession.

Well it depends what you mean by tank en elder... to me is just being able to kill it solo w/o a tank or conceal shooting it. But my awnser is most deffitnely yes, i "tank" elders when im grouped with my squadleader alt running a retreat and formup macro. On average if the spawn is decent i can kill between 10-25 elders in about 4 hours or so without a real problem.

what i mean by tanking it is...being able to solo it without having to kite...or run...i'd like to be able to sit there and take hits...and deal damage.

i'm not playing a ranged like i would a melee...at least not entirely. i used to be a melee stacker, which got me into the guild of 'Duel'. i would like to stay in because of that reason...of being a tank. i know i won't be as much of a tank as i was before, but i want to get it as close as possible.

i built my template based on what i know. i know that ranged weakness is state defenses and their inability to stand toe-to-toe with a melee stacker. i have also realized that ranged deals more damage than melee...and i figured that rifleman deals the most damage among all the ranged professions.

well with that in mind, i came up with a template that will give me nearly capped to almost all the state defenses, along with melee mitigation and medic healing abilities. i can deal damage as well as defend myself...to me that sounds like an almost perfect template (with the exception of not being able to cure dots/fire).

this isn't because i don't want to relearn a new profession. i never liked ranged much because they always had to run.

The short answer is no. Rifleman have little to no tanking ability. Any tanking ability you have will be dependent on your other professions.

Without other skills you will not be able to stand toe to toe with a Elder... she will tear you apart and turn you inside out. Many other skills sets will allow you to fight an elder but rifleman by itself is suicide if you stand up to her - you can conceal shot her reasonably safely.

also rifleman take a -melee defence modifier so you will be hit more even if you have tkm if you hold a rifle

QFE again. rifleman are not tank's, with the right secondary proffesions, we can sometimes hold our own, for a short bit, until the doc comes, and someone else can take over, but you are living on borowed time.

Just as an FYI, defense vs. dizzy does not cap.

The biggest problem with your template will be that you are counting on melee damage mitigation to work when you have a ranged weapon equipped. It has been confirmed several times by correspondents and through tests that melee damage mitigation does not work when you have a ranged weapon equipped and vice versa. You will be taking full damage regardless of your state defenses. The only way to "tank" an elder with a rifle equipped is to kite so that you avoid the majority of hits. Youmay do alrightwith first aid and stim E's, but I wouldn't count on you over someone who knows that the best way to kill an elder with a rifle equipped is to kite her. Since elders have their powers back, they also are using a variety of weapons as I'm sure you know. If she pulls out the 1k damage stun baton on you, you're going to be toast.

well to end all the questioning, i'll just have to wait and try it myself. i have not yet faced an elder with a stun baton...and if i do see one i probably won't even bother trying to take it on by myself. give me a week to completely finish my template. i'm 4003 rifles at the moment and i have a few more trees to master from other professions.

i'll let you guys know how things go.

any state defense you have will not be enough to prevent you from being dizzied by the elders attack. Great for PVP, doesn't really mean jack against high end mobs. If you just want to stand there and pound on one button, take Swords and get a good hammer.

of course not just "ANY" state defenses will prevent me from getting dizzy...i would guess only defense vs dizzy would prevent that? lol...i never heard anything about an elder having a much higher chance of sticking dizzy than another player would. i know for sure that having 105 def to dizzy prevents pikeman or tkm's to stick dizzy on me, but anyway...

i think some of you guys don't realize that i do know how to solo an elder...just not with rifles. i've killed a few elder on my own using swords.

/shrug

like i said, i'll just have to test this out myself and see if i can take on an elder by myself. this thread keeps going on...people are posting stuff that i already know (if i wanted to solo an elder...take up swords...) i know this.
