Thread: Rifleman Issues Designer responses
Jeez um ok you guys need to know that as riflemen we cant even hit as hard in the head as a Bounty Hunter.
I have gotten shot by a bounty hunter for 300+ damage in the Mind Pool and you know how much I shot the BH? about 150 with a t21. I also shoot slower too. You guys seriously need to fix us now. All our other skills are useless, what the hell does suprise shot suppose to do? Strafe shot effective at all? Conceal shot even work? Flushing shot is to easy to resist? and we have now way of changing a target to kneel unless you go up the special abilities line of marksman. T21 Rifle is hard as hell to make and takes a lot of mind to use. We shoot mind we take mind, but our mind damage from the rifle takes more out of us than the damage to the other guys. We miss alot in combat and take cover does jack squat.
These are all valid points to problems with the Rifleman class, and I've read a lot of interesting fixes. Some I aggree with, some I don't. That's the nature of forums... get your ideas out there and discuss them in detail.
WHAT I DO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH!!!
Why are we not seeing any responses from DEV's or Corrospondents? Why does it seem that we all aggree that there are problems, we all aggree on specific fixes, but this information is being ignored by Sony? Does anyone know of a corropsondant or DEV that we can get into this forum to discuss these matters with us? Or are we destined to endless complaining without any real solutions?
If you would like my opinion... I think that the DEV's realize that they really screwed up the rifleman class and basically hope that everyone will just get so annoyed that they drop it altogether. This will allow the DEV's to axe the class without any real complaints from players. Let's get on Sony and SWG developers to get someone in this forum and get these issues resolved.

The imbalance introduced with the LLC and Commando weapon upgrades really makes the rifleman look weak in comparison. The pistoleer always has had better moves and more usefull abilities, I can even see this as valid since in the Star Wars there seems to be alot of pistol work. However the T21 needs to be brought on par with the LLC. As a rifleman I have to spend all those skill points to have abilities that are far inferior than what a BH can get simply taking LLC and no other BH line. We do less than half the damage with three times the HAM cost. The melee damage we take with a rifle in our hands is a ridiculous handicap especially with mob teleportation. I am also a Teras Kasi master and find it anoying how often I have to fall back on it to save me from a situation that should have been easy to deal with. Its nice to do mind damage, but the mind cost of the moves makes it ineffecient even in pvp.
Solution: Lower the HAM costs, change snipershot to actually be a usable move that does damage, not just a ranged deathblow gimmick. Make the T21 the heavy sniper rifle it should be.

I did find something of interest on the SWG Stratics site. It was a request by a Dev to find out why most of the Marksmen were using pistols at (I believe it was) Expert Level.
Okay so there is pretty much agreement that Pistoleers put the other Elite Marksmen to shame. The thing I found interesting about this post is that the Dev's were baffled at the number at Expert Level pistols. To me it seems obvious. Expert Level (level 3 to be more specific since I forget which is Expert and which is Advanced,) is the most difficult early level to get passed in any ranged weapon because of the huge leap in required XP until the next level.
So everyone hears that Pistoleer is the best, and they all started taking it, but haven't mastered Pistoleer yet. Problem solved.
My point is that this post makes it clear that the Dev's don't really know what's going on. They see the trend but don't know why it's happening.
As a Side Note: With all the constant changes going on in SWG, I doubt the Dev's have had, or will have time to play the game as many people request. This wouldn't bother me except that the response from them on ALL classes are cryptic and non-informative.

My memory may be failing here, but back in the T21 nerf time period, I think it was Holocron (Raph?) who made a post and actually said something to the effect of "we don't have time to play the game". It was kind of a side comment to something else and I'm sure he didnt think twice about it, but every rifleman who read it sure did!
I hope I'm not making stuff up here... that muon gold can really play mind tricks!

im not a rifleman, im a bounty hunter...
riflemen should be able to take a guy out with one shot, they are practically snipers and thats how it should be. you guys spend more time nerf'ing stuff when you should be buffing things.
pistolleers, carbiner's and riflemen are common classes... they should be hard core not second rate.
these lack of enhances are keeping the gcw from rolling on. right now its commandos and bounty hunters on my server, and all the master weapon classes are sitting on the side lines because they know they dont stand a chance.
Ok, I got halfway down page 7 and couldn't take it anymore. Lets assume I'm not repeating anything....
Lets suspend belief and make some SEG Physics rules for a moment in an attempt to correct rifle without altering existing SWG code.
In SWG all hand held energy based weapons have a max range of 64m. Thats the physics of this universe so we have to live with it. (this would take care of the range issue)
In SWG 'ammo' is a energy providing device that once fires needs to cycle in order to recharge and fire again. (there is the speed issue, which is the most baffling to me)
Ok, so physics in SWG dictate that the max range of a weapon is 64m and that a perpetual power device which needs to cycle before discharge is where ammo comes from, so where does that leave a rifleman.
WIth a bigger power device than a Pistol, hence much more damage. And I mean alot more damage. In game the comparative size difference from a DLT and a Scout Pistol should dictate what I'm talking about. I understand the Dev's are extremley hesitant about 1 shot one kill, but damage is an easy way to balance the distance and timing.
So in our Universe max range and recycle rate aside, bigger gun, more damage.
In addition a rifle has a long barrel, which in turn is used to push that beam of 'hard' light out to do incredible damage. With that in mind the longer the barrel the more compresed and higher velocity that 'hard' light beam attains, doing more damage. (this is where I take care of range). Meaning damage penalties at distance should be next to nothing for a rifleman and more for a pistoleer. Keep in mind I'm not talking about accuracy here, just damage.
In an earlier post I made comments that combat would be better suited if it was governed by accuracy, but in this model I am trying to generate, it holds no bearing. I think the simplist solution is to allow riflemen to do massive damage. Thats what they do.
on a lighter tone, lets dump head shot and call it "called shot" as you level you get different called shots. Head would be one for mind damage, while torso would do health (like a shot to the heart) this would still allow for one shots, a third would be mobility. Like a shot to the leg or arm that does action damage.
Just some thoughts on that. I would really like to see something where if I do over 50% damage to any pool in one shot you have a chance of getting dizzy....

I'll take it. I've read the majority of these posts and had the same sentiments as you. Can't mess with the game dynamics without messing with everything else in the game. Up the damage on the guns and be done with it.
Seems the most logical solutions, from my somewhat ill informed perspective.
1. Must have Dev response, any sign of life would do...
2. Accuracy < apprx 50~55 meters = dismal at best, why?
3. HAM to dmg ratio for'special' attacksslightly higher than usuable formore than two or three times(1000 mind 350 focus700 will power)
4. Extra damage penalty for holding a rifle in melee... why?
5. Point Blank Signle&Area : removes negative accuracy mod at point blank range : then why is an a rifleman with +67 rifle accuracy + 30 general ranged accuracy Bio-Engineer (+40creature to hit bonus from hunting (scout))with a4.3 speedlaser rifle being incapped by gnorts while trying to DNA sample because of 7 consecutive misses etc. =|
6.I have no plans at all for buying a T 21, reasons posted above, feel no need to repeat excessively
7. While greater range sounds great (and Dev's I wouldnt mind a bit
), your logics are all flawed and based on "real world physics" which do not apply here. These blaster weapons should have no more or less range than any other of the others, rifle or pistol. Pistoleers as, or more than,accurateas a rifleman at max range... thats something else.
8. Warping issues need to be addressed, similarly rifleman stops running durring combat (the only thing capable of keeping him out of melee range) must be addressed as well.
Anyone else thinking about switching to Pistoleer and spammingpistol whiphere?
